Football fans join in to share the joy, the heartache and VAR frustration ⚽

“Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I don't like that attitude. I can assure them it is much more serious than that.”

If both clubs are complaining that the ref was poor… does that not mean it all balanced itself out and no one gained an advantage ergo nowt to moan about?

TheSleepingGiant · 24/09/2024 10:59

Nice of Newcastle to allow the Dons to play their EFL cup fixture at SJP next week meaning they don't lose out on much needed gate money. The damage to their pitch is awful after the weekends heavy rain and their postponed fixture's due to it are starting to rack up Sad The big clubs really do need to help their smaller counter-parts out in times like this I feel.

I suspect we’ll donate the entire increased gate receipt as well. They’re going to need all the cash they can get. The pitch looks like several golf bunkers have appeared.

Yes what a mess that is.
I assume they are playing someone from up north? Otherwise SJP is a long way from MK!

AFC Wimbledon are not based in Milton Keynes. The team that play in MK aren't even afforded a name by my husband and son.

It's an ill wind that blows Wimbledon to the north east but I get to go.

Cuwins · 24/09/2024 15:02

Sorry @CrossPurposes I should know better! I just assumed people meant MK dons.
Ok well it's still an equally long way from Wimbledon! But I see they were due to play Newcastle.

They are known as the Fucking Franchise in my house, hoping this is the year they leave the EFL.

Just read Newcastle have donated 15,000 to the Dons cause. They've already smashed their 50,000 target. Amazing support for the fan-owned club 👏

Aye we’re not a bad bunch really.

They're not all complaining about the same match, otherwise other clubs wouldn't be complaining as well...

Couldn’t read the article as it didn’t link to anything specific but you specifically referenced Man City, therefore I’m not sure that statement holds up. In the City v Arsenal game there were things that happened that either side could have a moan about which suggests to me that it all evened itself out in the end. Which of course for most clubs over the course of a season it does. Which is why I don’t buy the calls of corruption or bias against specific teams. It can be hard to bear in the heat of the moment but realistically no one is deliberately not giving calls for particular clubs.

EboueEboue · 25/09/2024 09:05

That's a bit of a simplistic reading, but that's up to you.

JasonTindallsTan · 25/09/2024 09:33

🤷🏼‍♀️ works for me. Means I don’t give myself an aneurysm over refs decisions, or at least I can park it after a short period of time, don’t let it fester or get tied up in bonkers conspiracy theories.

Yes, there were things that went in our (Arsenal's) favour on Sunday, but the fact that Michael Oliver gets paid by the same organisation that owns Man City, does not sit well with me.

EboueEboue · 25/09/2024 13:34

Apparently, we're starting our Cocup tie with 16 year old Jack Porter in goal...

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 25/09/2024 14:26

EboueEboue · 25/09/2024 13:11

Think Raya carrying a knock, second is cup tied, third injured so here we are!!

Hope the defence protects him!!

EboueEboue · 25/09/2024 23:17

The kids did OK! Porter did alright and will hopefully learn from the mistakes he made. Great to see Nwaneri score a brace on his first start!

EboueEboue · 25/09/2024 23:48

"Arsenal’s starting goalkeeper tonight, Jack Porter, wasn’t born the last time Spurs won a trophy."

Well, a little bird told me he wasn’t born the last time Arsenal won the Premier League either 😉

What does cup tied mean? I thought that a player couldn't play if they were on loan from the opposing team. Our second goal keeper is on loan from Bournemouth, so why is he ineligible?

EboueEboue · 26/09/2024 20:04

I think it may be if they've already played a cup game before they came on loan?

Only guessing...

DuncinToffee · 26/09/2024 20:14

He played in Bournemouth's cup match in August
