Is anyone enjoying the start of the new season?

Nu Brown - no further action to be taken. Meeting being held with officials to clarify new rulings.

Good. I'm not opposed to this 'tidying up' of the rules, but this was a ridiculous decision.

duc748 · 28/02/2024 22:05

In the unlikely event that this applies to anyone else here: it seems that with the new regime of TV coverage of SL, if like me, you have Virgin, but no Sky package as such, some of the games are available in full (not the 20 minute highlights) on Sky Sports Mix, Channel 510. For example, Wire v Cas next Friday night.

Sweden99 · 29/02/2024 06:04

I am getting old. I will miss Saints Leigh as it is past my bed time.

We've got Sky so don't think it applies to us. Wigan fan here so will probably watch the Huddersfield game...but I'm tempted by the Leigh game as have a soft spot for them! 😁

duc748 · 29/02/2024 10:50

Ticketing system woes mean I still haven't yet had a ticket for the Huddersfield game (despite being a ST holder), so I might end up watching on TV anyway! But that's five games on Sky Sports Mix for me this weekend, plus Salford game on the Red Button. I don't know how many non-Wigan games I'll watch really; I already have a watchNRL package, so I watch all the Aussie games. There's only so many hours in the day!

duc748 · 01/03/2024 19:04

A ticket did arrive in the post yesterday, so I'll head off to the match shortly.

RadioGaGaRadioGooGoo · 01/03/2024 19:39

@duc748 glad your ticket arrived - enjoy the game tonight!

We will have the saints game on tonight, but then will be watching the 2 tomorrow and 1 Sunday which I'm pleased about

It is very tight at the Langtree, watching it on TV here too.

@Sweden99 yes very tight. Both teams look poor in attack.

What do you make of the Asiata tackle?

I winced a little when I saw it but was not clear on it at the time, perhaps as it did remind me of last season. That said, my impressions might have been influenced by the pundits who were much clearer on it than I was.
What did you think yourself?

RadioGaGaRadioGooGoo · 01/03/2024 21:22

@Sweden99 I wouldn't have disagreed if a red was produced, for me that is a far more dangerous tackle than some of the cards we have seen so far this year. You are right it brings back memories of last year when he ended 2 players seasons, one of which hasn't started playing again yet.

duc748 · 01/03/2024 23:44

Haven't seen the Saints game (and don't currently know the result). I'm at home watching Wire v Cas now. Very decent run-out for us, all things considered, after the WCC, and with a weakened pack. It was a bit chilly, but good to see live rugby again! 🙂

Sirzy · 02/03/2024 06:51

Not the best performance from Saints last night but we battled through. Leigh picked up a few injuries which could make things really tough the next few weeks for them

Formby · 02/03/2024 07:35

Couldn’t get to the game last night but watched on tv.
Pleased with the win.
looking forward to watching the games today,

ListenLinda · 02/03/2024 07:54

I must admit, I had forgotten about the Asiata incidents last year and when I saw it I was a bit confused why they were going so mad about it. I thought it was a silly tackle & was a bit bemused why it was a sin binning and not a penalty. Then did some googling after Wilkin completely lost his rag & understand now. Also see why the Saints fans cheered when he got injured, but I don’t agree with that to be honest.

Saints play a high impact physical game, we lost a few players to injury after playing them last year too.

On to todays game & will be having to choose between watching the Rhinos & the F1 as both start at same time.
Think we will really struggle against Catalans with hardly any props.

You are a Saints fan (as that is Formby's closest SL team)?

No, a Wire fan. My username comes from a long lost family connection.

Good you got your ticket sorted!

Eaten my words re the Rhinos game.

I think they were lucky to end with that result. Catalan dominated the first half.

ListenLinda · 02/03/2024 21:48

@FawnFrenchieMum hmm, maybe. Leeds defence was pretty solid. Catalans weren’t clinical enough with their chances and paid the price.

FawnFrenchieMum · 03/03/2024 08:57

@ListenLinda yeah that’s true defence was solid.

duc748 · 03/03/2024 10:37

Anyone follow the NRL? I'm just about to dip into the Vegas games.

Formby · 08/03/2024 08:44

Such a nail-biting game to watch last night.
A very close win for us (could have gone either way) but both teams need to sort their goal kicking out, those lost 2 pointers could definitely be the difference between a win and a loss.

Yes I do wonder how much time is spent practicing goal kicking. Such am important part of the game yet teams only ever seem to have 1 decent kicker and if they are injured they are in trouble!
Enjoyed the game though. Could have gone either way.
