Is anyone enjoying the start of the new season?

Well that's a jumbled mess, and isn't about rugby league at all.

duc748 · 18/08/2026 21:45

@Formby, are you watching? 😀Wire in a good position now, with winnable fixtures ahead.

Formby · 18/08/2026 22:23

A very nervous watch but so pleased with the result.
looking forward to being at the game on Sunday.

We’ll be at the match later to say farewell to the late great Sir Billy, one of my late mum’s heroes. We used to go to the Griffin pub for lunch in the 1980s sometimes so she could be in his presence. A warm and lovely man

duc748 · 27/08/2026 23:21

Wonderful tribute tonight, despite the appalling weather! Billy Boston just epitomises everything that is great about our sport. Just back from the game and watching the end of the coverage recorded on the TV.

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 29/08/2026 16:52

Leeds v Wigan next week should be a great game

Formby · 29/08/2026 17:12

That’s definitely a game to watch.

lovely to hear about the Billy Boston tribute.

duc748 · 05/09/2026 23:18

So who was watching? 😀I had a ticket, and had a plan to go on my bike, as the weather was good, but I has a virus, and my health hadn't improved enough, and I thought about the long journey back in the dark... so decided I'd make do with the TV at home. And I can't say Wigan didn't put on a show; just superb in attack and defence. And now in two SL games, Leeds have only scored two tries against us. No room for complacency, but we have certainly put down a marker.

Formby · 06/09/2026 07:29

Was a good win. Definitely not wise to bike when not fully well.
Lost our game through a short goal line drop out, really dislike this tactic, cost us the match.
Win next week and we finish 3rd - who’d have predicted that after the disaster of last season and the injuries we had early this season? Our youngsters have filled in exceptionally well and the future is looking bright.

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 06/09/2026 08:22

gutting after rhinos being top so long to lose last night, but credit for Wigan they were immense.

duc748 · 06/09/2026 14:13

Academy Grand Final at the Brick this afternoon against Warrington. I'm going to go and have a look.

duc748 · 11/09/2026 22:59

For the second time (the first was the WCC win over Penrith, unfortunately), I ended up leaving the game early cos I felt unwell. It was just a virus, but I didn't feel great, and decided to go home. So tonight, despite the mild weather, I stayed in to watch us go for the LLS on TV? Anyone else watching? I think it's been a fantastic effort to win the Shield we'd thought was out of reach, but that's what 15 consecutive wins do for you! Lovely scenes at the end of the match too. In contrast to what happened at Warrington (bowdlerised by Sky, as far as I could say). What did other posters think?

Formby · 11/09/2026 23:17

Well done Wigan.
Went to our game (Warrington) tonight and our youngsters did exceptionally well against Toulouse.
Most of these players should have been playing in the reserves grand final tomorrow, so double edged sword for them.
Didn’t record the match so don’t know what happened on Sky.

duc748 · 11/09/2026 23:35

Toulouse have been a credit to the comp, they can be very proud of their season.

There was a bit of a melee at the end of the game, and Sky suddenly dropped in an advert, and when the advert finished, Jon Wilkin was saying something about it being a serious incident, but they didn't follow it up. Still a good result for the Wire youngsters; people were commenting on a Wigan forum that Wire have overtaken Saints lately in producing young talent, where Saints right now are going for ordinary NRL rejects.

duc748 · 18/09/2026 21:01

Anyone watching the play-offs? Leigh looking poor so far.

nowtygaffer · 19/09/2026 23:09

Leigh were disappointing.
Hull KR never really got in the match.

duc748 · 19/09/2026 23:18

I predicted wins for Leigh and Wire, so only 50%. Leigh were really disappointing, didn't really turn up, and HKR, as I suspected, ended their season with a whimper.

Formby · 20/09/2026 08:14

Leigh were never in the game.
I’m thrilled by our performance last night but sad to say I think this is as far as we go but just dare to dream a little.

duc748 · 20/09/2026 11:09

That's no attitude, Formby! Have some faith! I predicted a Wigan/Wire GF some reason back, and see no reason to change my mind.

duc748 · 25/09/2026 23:05

So you made it, @Formby ! I assume you were watching on TV, and not on the Western Terrace!

Formby · 26/09/2026 07:55

Wow. Watched on tv but grandson was at the ground and he’s buzzing!
Thrilled to make the final, been a long time.
Our youngsters stepping in throughout the season has been something new for the club and positive signs for the future too.
Watching next semi tonight, think a Wigan win but after last night who knows? ‘Play to the whistle’.

nowtygaffer · 27/09/2026 11:41

Great effort from Wakefield! They were amazing!
Can only be good for the game to have a new name on the trophy 🏆

duc748 · 27/09/2026 14:04

Yes, fantastic effort from Wakey, well-deserved. Anyone's GF now. I just watched Penrith crash out unexpectedly in the NRL play-offs, but an appalling injury to Nathan Cleary (hip-drop) which probably means he'll miss the World Cup.

duc748 · 28/09/2026 10:30

Last night I went to the Women's GF at The Brick, only to see Wigan fall short to York Valkyrie, 6-8, a tight game. So our Women's teams have actually mirrored the men; bagging the League Leader's Shield and Challenge Cup, but falling just short of the Grand Final.
So that's it for domestic rugby, only the NRL GF and the World Cup left now.
