Yuk. Hope the slimeball gets fired ASAP

Just heard that the Spanish player who scored the winning goal lost her father today. How shocking. Poor woman.

Just read that.

So sad. Being on top of the world one minute and devastated the next. Poor woman. My heart goes out to her and her family

The poor woman. Such extremes of emotion in such a short period. It must be unbearably hard to know such joy and then to immediately have your heart broken.

And as for that kiss? The head hold so that she couldn’t get away?

I wouldn’t have been happy about that either. Far from it.

As someone else put better, he felt he could do that on a very public stage with royalty and officials nearby and cameras everywhere. Creepy as…

BellaAmorosa · 21/08/2023 11:22

Poor Olga Carmona. She only heard after the final. I suppose her family know her best, but personally I would have preferred to know the night it happened.

The slimeball is the head of the Spanish FA, so I doubt if he will suffer any consequences whatsoever. I just hope it won't ruin Jenni Hermoso's memories of the day. I've been thinking about this and I am more and more disgusted. In the context of how the players are treated and the open letter they published this seems like a flex - we have the power, you have to do what we want. Bleurgh.

DuncinToffee · 21/08/2023 12:14

His behaviour continued in the dressing room, there is video on one of the player's instragram^^

Oh my God, the man is a pig! In the WSL, it's understood that male coaches don't go into the players' dressing room. Hermoso has caved and said she's fine with it, but I imagine she, along with the rest of the squad, wants to be considered for the Olympics next year.

Footyfooty · 21/08/2023 16:06

Aye. In a ‘I’m sorry you feel that way’ kind of way.

He is right in one thing though. Grubby (male) actions have indeed taken a little bit of shine and attention from a glorious achievement (of women).

Like all those chopsing that certain men should have been attending.

I’m not sure why it always seems to get turned round to the menfolk.

We can shine enough.

BellaAmorosa · 21/08/2023 16:13

Yes, as if nothing women do has value unless men validate it. Ingrained misogyny.

RightOnTheEdge · 21/08/2023 19:59

I came here to find talk about about Luis Rubiales because it was really actually getting me down how many people were defending him on the news articles. Its so depressing.

What an absolute pig he is! Why do men have to spoil every thing? It feels like two steps forward with women's football and three steps back.

PrincessTigger · 21/08/2023 21:48

What a non-apology, you’re right he’s a pig! Unbelievable in 2023 even female world champions have to deal with this.

I. can’t. even.

DuncinToffee · 22/08/2023 10:44

There are more disturbing incidents from the final, Rubiales grabbing his crotch celebrating the win and Vilda grabbing one of his female assistants breast.

I see the players left the airport via the back doors. Fans waited all night at the airport to see them. Great sportsmanship and great role models they are 🙄

DuncinToffee · 22/08/2023 12:27

BBC Sport understands this is the normal process for the men's and women's team to exit an airport.

Hardly the players fault Confused

I think we take your point that you’re definitely not a fan!

BellaAmorosa · 22/08/2023 14:45

Some people just want to find fault, don't they? Best not to take them too seriously.

But regarding the Spanish squad, I have a feeling there is something a lot darker going on. Sexual and or psychological abuse is not exactly unheard of in women's sport.

DuncinToffee · 22/08/2023 16:09

You are right about the Spanish squad

Just when you think this can’t get any worse. According to the report:

  • Rubiales pleading with Hermoso to appear in his “apology” video - she refused
  • Vilda approaching JH’s family THREE times to convince them
  • JH’s statement downplaying the incident came from RFEF and not JH

BellaAmorosa · 22/08/2023 16:44

Ugh!
The only good thing about that is that Hermoso refused to be party to the cover-up/fake apology. She's gone up in my estimation.

It really stuck in my craw when the RFEF explicitly took the win as vindicating Vilda's coaching and management style and their refusal to listen to the players' concerns. No, RFEF and Jorge, you're just lucky enough to be in charge of an incredibly talented and driven group of players.

I'm glad it's being followed up.

Version12 · 22/08/2023 16:59

I honestly wonder at the emotional state of the Spanish women's team. They've just won the World Cup (sorry the women's world cup, not the default, proper one) which must be such a high. And then they've got players missing bevause of the arsehole coach, one player who is only 23 and just lost her dad, another who got sexually assaulted on live TV by the president of the football federation who also burst into the dressing room and said he was going to marry her, and then harassed her and her family to say that it was all fine, and they've also got the manager they all hate grabbing the breast of a female coach, also on live TV.

They are not public property. They don't need to be "on" at all times.

Same with any sports person/celebrity. Just because they are in an airport doesn't make them public property.

Many thanks for the link. Not surprising to see that there are further allegations of sexual harassment emerging.
