@EddieHoweisMYmanager

Yes, brilliant result yesterday. Sad that I couldn't watch the match.

So don't you like AG? I heard him being interviewed yesterday and he said that one of the main differences between being at Everton and NC is that NC only has one team. I hadn't really thought about it, but is must be so unifying to only have one team in your city.

I don't understand the tweet?

EddieHoweisMYmanager · 03/04/2023 10:21

Noooo.

I love Anthony Gordon, he’s one of us now and I thought he had a great game yesterday when he came on as sub.

I was talking about Man U’s ferrety faced player Antony.

The tweet showed a small video clip of Jacob Murphy tapping his watch in reference to the fact that Ten Hag suggested Newcastle weren’t a football playing team, we just try and slow the game down by time wasting and being annoying. Murphy was being a wind up merchant, see also him waving Caleta Car off the pitch earlier in the season for a further example of such shithousery 👍🏻😂

And yes, I think being s one club city does make a difference. It’s rare that you need to try and suss out an allegiance before striking up a conversation about football. There’s no ‘no go topics’ and when the club does well the whole city feels like it’s buzzing.

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 03/04/2023 10:45

I entirely agree - Antony has one of the most slappable faces in football. And what a waste of money he was!

I also have to agree though, that Newcastle are prone to timewasting. You did it a lot when playing us!

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 03/04/2023 10:59

@EddieHoweisMYmanager

Ha ha. I think I was thinking about AG and put 2 and 2 together and made 5!

Totally agree about Antony. He made is Man U debut when they played us and then scored. Will never forgive him for that!

@YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue I think we are also guilty of time wasting. I think all teams are to some extent.

EddieHoweisMYmanager · 03/04/2023 11:18

I think to an extent tactical time wasting is a part of the game and every team does it when it is beneficial to them. I don’t like when managers try and influence referees before a game by drawing their attention to something that everyone does and trying to make out like it’s unique to their opponent and the refs have to be ‘on it’.

De Gea fannied about with every single goal kick yesterday and yet it was Nick Pope who got spoken to by the ref despite there being no evidence he was attempting to time waste at all.

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 03/04/2023 13:59

Good to see Willock getting on the scoresheet again!

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 03/04/2023 14:25

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 03/04/2023 13:59

Good to see Willock getting on the scoresheet again!

Yes and especially against Man U.

EddieHoweisMYmanager · 03/04/2023 14:35

Yes it was great, surely an England call up shouldn’t be far away for him. Must be so difficult for players to see the likes of Harry Maguire and Kalvin Phillips getting called up every single time despite being little more than bench warmers for their clubs.

I thought ASM was back to his tenacious best yesterday and Isak continues to show why we broke a club record to bring him here.

God being a Newcastle fan is FUN again.

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 03/04/2023 15:34

@EddieHoweisMYmanager

Yes it was a very long wait for you. Much longer than it was for us and it seemed like an eternity for us so goodness knows how you all kept sane through the dark Ashley years.

EddieHoweisMYmanager · 03/04/2023 16:06

@MustTryHarderAndHarder

I think a lot of us lost our minds certainly in the latter years. It had got to the point where even if we were on the TV I’d barely bother to watch. Going to games was an exercise in futility and you just knew any players you did have with a spark of creativity would get shifted on to line Fat Mike’s pockets. It was criminal what he did to the club. Absolutely criminal.

EddieHoweisMYmanager · 03/04/2023 21:56

I never really understood the use ‘Spursy’ as an adjective.

but after tonight…

That was Very Spursy.

And Harry Kane was an embarrassment.

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 03/04/2023 21:58

So pleased Everton equalised. They deserved to win.

DuncinToffee · 03/04/2023 22:00

we go to our Under 23 matches when possible (they're usually the on the opposite schedule to the men's main team) - it's free for club members and not far to go so it's a good deal if you like live footy - they play in the 5th tier of German football. (the 2nd team thing is complicated here). I noticed that our goalie did a bit of faffing towards the end, got a telling off my the ref and looked quite sheepish for a while. He's only a young lad but he's learning well 😁

On the subject of goalies. There are rumblings here that Bayern will go for De Gea. Months after nicking the best goalie in the Bundesliga (and one of the best in the world) from us to cover for Neuer - i can't imagine Sommer would have gone for half a season just to be pushed to #2 behind someone else, so i do wonder what the deal is with him.

My other thought is that this possibly signals Neuer retiring from top level football.

Yes - Doucure was an idiot but Kane is such a fanny. Made a total meal of it! Embarrassing!

Always difficult to play against ten anyway I find, and Everton are more interested in retaining their place in the PL ( and rightly so) than Spurs are of getting top four it seems.

Brefugee · 04/04/2023 12:33

Not sure if we've talked about it here or not. I read that in the US MLS are trying out a new 15 second rule, that i think could be really useful and interesting. Basically anyone who is lying on the pitch for 14 seconds is ok, 15 seconds and they have to leave the pitch (not sure about all the details)
Hopefully it may deter this kind of thing?

DuncinToffee · 04/04/2023 12:58

I am sure the PL tried something similar, players had to be treated off the pitch and we had all those stretchers being carried out only to be waived away.

Now they just go down in a heap or roll back onto the pitch for treatment and some time gets added on.

The excuses for Kane are quite pathetic, every player does it, if he didn't go down Doucoure might have gotten away with a yellow as if etc.
(I hated it when Richardlison and Gordon did it so I am not having a go at Kane, it's just something the game could do without)

Well something needs to be done or players will just take advantage.

Head injuries are also tricky because there is nothing to stop a player saying that he has a head injury when the opposing team are likely to score so that the referee has to stop the game.

Brefugee · 04/04/2023 15:05

What i really really want to see in football, and they sometimes have a half-hearted stab at it in the Bundesliga, is respect for the ref (the position of ref rather than the actual person, IYSWIM?)

So when they call a player over for a warning, or a card, if the player starts gesturing, back chatting, interrupting or just turning and walking away? warning becomes yellow, yellow becomes red and off they go. No surrounding the ref, none of that gesturing at someone who tackled you as if you're a ref giving a yellow, no touching the ref. The only person who should be able to approach the referee is the captain and any player he calls over. That is it. (like Rugby)

and the rest will fall naturally into place, i feel.

But a bit of goalie "bounce the ball, carefully place it, look at it, pick it up, bounce the ball, carefully place it, look at it, look a bit more, pace slowly away and then goal kick"? they all do it 😁Annoying when it's the opposition, winning a bit of time if it's yours. it amuses me to see how far they push it sometimes.

DuncinToffee · 04/04/2023 15:10

I completely agree with your respect for the referee point Brefugee
