Sky commentator on the Man U match stating that Man U have the meanest defence in the league. Newcastle must be scotch mist right enough. 🙄

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 18/01/2023 21:56

Ah, welcome to our world...

EddieHowesBlackandWhiteArmy · 18/01/2023 23:01

The repetitive use of ‘United’ to denote Man U makes my teeth itch too.

Did you see Bet365 ran a Twitter poll the other day asking ‘who do you think will win the league?’ And the three options were Arsenal, City and Man U.

seethes in black and white

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 18/01/2023 23:20

Well, they would have left us off if we weren't top of the league at the moment...

DuncinToffee · 19/01/2023 08:43

If you want to talk about the biased media, just look at the way various outlets have treated Everton fans over the last weeks. Angry
At least Ian Wright had the decency to apologise.

you want to come to Germany. Most clubs have some variation of FC or the German equivalent of Sport Club (Vfl is popular - Club for exercise) in front or behind their name.
Then you have my lot: Vfl Borussia Mönchengladbach. Who are named after the Prussian (that's the Borussia) who set the club up. They are variously called (by fans) Der Vfl, Die Borussia or Gladbach. Vfl - if you don't know who you're talking about - could be one of dozens of clubs in all the possible leagues. Hilarious when we play Vfl Wolfsburg or Vfl Bochum where both sets of fans will chant "nur der Vfl" (kind of almost like "there's only one..." Grin)
And then you have Borussia Dortmund (BVB) who are named after a beer company set up by the Prussian soldiers at the turn of the last century (may have been the company team?) So there is a HUGE dispute (mostly because we hates them for nicking so many of our players) between Borussia (Mönchengladhabc) fans and Borussia (boooooo Dortmund) fans. Although Dortmund fans tend to refer to themselves as BVB.

So there you have it

I love this. I am seething on your behalf!!

And aye, Everton fans have been done dirty. Newcastle fans more than any know what bad leadership can do to a fan base.

DuncinToffee · 19/01/2023 09:16

Never had the problem with club names in the Dutch league, it's often more a guess which city or town they are from Grin

I live close to Sittard (NL) which is a tiny town, who were in the first division (can't remember what it's called, i don't follow Dutch footy) and it was totally mad seeing Feyenoord and Ajax visiting.

I used to follow Feyenoord simply because i saw them on TV once and the fans were singing "we love you Feyenoord" and I liked their player Reggie Blinker, who promptly transferred to my English club.

(still sad about losing a) the best looking goalie in the Bundesliga and b) the best goalie in the Bundesliga to FLIPPIN' BAYERN. Gits)

Well Casemiro got his 5th yellow yesterday and he looks mean. Good that he is not playing us on Sunday.

Gabriel is on his 4th yellow but at least 2 of them were for time wasting from what I remember. He doesn't learn.

EddieHowesBlackandWhiteArmy · 19/01/2023 10:46

Just secured an additional ticket for the Newcastle v Liverpool game for my bestie who has a big birthday coming up. Annoyingly the two seats directly behind our season tickets were free but I couldn’t just buy one as it’s in a row of 3 and would have left one seat in the row free 🤬

So I’ve had to buy two 👀😂

Brefugee · 19/01/2023 12:03

that thing with the 2 seats so you must buy 2 is ridiculous and annoying. I wanted to buy 2 cinema tickets, but that would have left a single seat in the row (last seat in the place for a popular film) so... the cinema didn't sell any. And when i checked right before the film started, so i could email them with my annoyance, they still hadn't been sold. So, instead of selling 2, they sold none.

But Newcastle vs Liverpool is a tasty match, so you will be able to find someone, right?

EddieHowesBlackandWhiteArmy · 19/01/2023 12:38

Yep deffo, it’s just a bit irritating as you say and makes little sense - particularly in the circs of a row of three and at a football match where a lot of folk would go individually. Although DH is already eying it up saying ‘well I could just come’. Well yes you could (my game with DS so DH sitting it out) but THATS NOT FAIR as I had to sit out the Man City game because it was his match with DS and I didn’t get an extra ticket 😆

WOE IS ME.

Brefugee · 19/01/2023 13:23

your DH is in the queue behind me for your spare ticket Grin
When is it? as long as I'm back home by about 4pm on Sunday (so i can make our next match) I'll be fine

EddieHowesBlackandWhiteArmy · 19/01/2023 13:53

Not until 18th Feb and it’s a late afternoon kick off so SJP will be bouncing and you’ll be grand 🙌🏻🙌🏻😂

Brefugee · 19/01/2023 13:55

arghh - we're home to Bayern on that day (wah! facing our ex-goalie) which is always good for a shock win for Gladbach. (2 years ago we beat them at home after being 0-2 down so i always hope)

I read the article about the ref and Arsenal and surrounding the goalie. I am very much of the opinion that players should, as in rugby, only approach the ref when invited and the only players otherwise allowed to speak to him are the captains. They need to have a 10 m exclusion zone or something (maybe they should wear Scarlett O'Hara-style crinolines?)

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 19/01/2023 17:46

I completely agree that players shouldn't be surrounding the ref. My complaint is that most teams seem to be getting away with it week after week, but Arsenal are being punished for it.

Oh well, I guess tonight I have to hold my nose and cheer on Sp*rs...

Man City v Spurs, HT, 0-2. Royale header, we all burst out laughing.

Brefugee · 19/01/2023 20:51

Quick question: do any of you have UK Sky sports? do they show Bundesliga?

I often wonder because we get the Premier League on German sky. And they always have to play some edgy punk / New Wave music when they advertise it, or when they go to or come back from an ad break. Often The Jam, but especially if it's a London Derby the clash.

We want to know if they do that in the UK: Rammstein for the bundesliga?

burblish · 19/01/2023 21:11

@Brefugee It’s so interesting to hear perspectives from another domestic league - sorry to see Bayern have cherry-picked Sommer from your team as cover for Neuer, though. Incidentally, I read Neuer’s injury is a broken leg from a skiing accident - seems so unnecessarily risky for a footballer to go skiing mid-season! Nagelsmann must have been beyond furious.

EddieHowesBlackandWhiteArmy · 19/01/2023 21:13

Ooh Man City Tottenham is getting a bit spicy. From an NUFC point of view a draw would suit me nicely. From my FPL perspective I’ve triple captained Haaland this week so another couple from him would do me a treat 😂

I was all set to be gleeful but, of course, as this is Spurs, you know they can choke in a heartbeat…and sure enough, within a few mins of the restart bloody Citeh are level and looking good for a third. Bah.

Oblomov22 · 19/01/2023 21:21

I'd like to talk about something different. alvarez argentina , very quiet, unassuming. Like him. Very bad acne. Why hadn't someone sorted it for such a young chap, such a shame. Accutane?

Yep, Sky show some Bundesliga games. I haven’t watched any of them this season, but Google tells me the song Sky plays at half-time etc is “2 Be Loved (Am I Ready?)” by Lizzo, which is a bit random!

(And of course Citeh are now 3-2 up. DC (Spurs fan) is not surprised!)

Oblomov22 · 19/01/2023 21:23

20 minutes into the 2nd half. 3-2 down. Bollocks.
