Any darts fans about? World championships 2022

After all my years on Mumsnet I thought I would give this thread a go and see if there are any fellow darts fans about?

I wasn't planning on starting it until next week when the competition has picked up a bit but after that match between Borland and Brooks I couldn't not post now!

So, I know I am probably alone but if there is anyone out there come and chat with me Grin

We watch it every year (and most other darts! 🎯)

That match was amazing!

NotJustACigar · 17/12/2021 22:02

I gave my husband a sky sports pass as an early Christmas present so I'm sitting here while he's watching the tournament in the same room. I'm sorry but it's like watching paint dry! Plus there are dancing girls! I honestly don't get it but I'm glad you and he enjoy it.
It does look like the fans in the venue are having fun (although they're pretty well packed together and few are masked). Also DH says the next match will be good because one of the players is a big character!

ExquisitelyDecorated · 17/12/2021 22:05

Yep, we've watched it for about 20 years, usually miss most of the pre-Christmas rounds because of work and going out but watched the entire thing last year. Sky Q is playing up tonight - saw the Borland match but been cut off now.

I am still stunned! I really thought Brooks was going to bring it back but what a finish (and the first 9 darter I have witnessed live, I ALWAYS miss them!).

I only got into darts when I met DP 3 years ago, our first Christmas he made us watch it and I thought it was awful but I am just about darts biggest fan now Grin. We went to watch it in Blackpool over summer and it was fab, I'm hoping we can get to a few more next year.

@SlingingArrows - it's not Christmas here until the darts start! Early rounds can be dull as dishwater but we enjoy it. Never have understood the angst about the dancers, although sometimes I think their dance routines are a bit rubbish!

Ha yes this was me 3 years ago but DP managed to get me into it and I love it now (although I agree re the dancing girls).

Sky Q is playing up for me too but back on now so hopefully it is for you too

Yes I must admit I've only be half watching the matches so far hence why I hadn't planned on starting this thread yet,I was actually planning on watching gogglebox at 9 but when I realised it was the celebrity one I decided to put darts on instead, so glad I did now!

It looks like we have a good future of darts ahead of us the way Brooks and Borland both played.

And another nine darter!!!
🎯 #love the darts ❤️

SlingingArrows · 18/12/2021 15:11

Ahh gutted! I am out all day and night today so no I don't think I'm going to catch any matches.

I am hoping and praying that they can see the full length of the tournament out even if it has to change to behind closed doors Sad

OP posts:
ExquisitelyDecorated · 18/12/2021 16:02

I'm a bit concerned about the lack of masks in the crowd I must admit. Although on the pdc website there is a requirement for a covid passport for ticket holders.

christmaspombear · 18/12/2021 16:53

It definitely looks like a mass spreading event ! Barry Hearn has said it will continue even if it's behind closed doors like last year

The WDf have postponed the lakeside one that was due in January which is probably sensible.

There were very few at the snooker last night , I can't see darts fanatics not going to ally pally though if they're still allowed

SlingingArrows · 18/12/2021 17:17

It has looked like there are a few empty spots but not many! It's definitely going to be a super spreader event but to be honest, if I had tickets I can't say that I definitely wouldn't have gone.

After a busy weekend I'm settling in for this evenings session, looking forward to Sherrock I hope she plays as well as she did at the Grand Slam.

OP posts:
ExquisitelyDecorated · 19/12/2021 22:31

That was a shame for Sherrock, if she'd taken that first set it would have been a different result I think.

SlingingArrows · 27/12/2021 20:30

Now this is tense!

There's been some great matches, it will be interesting to see who wins the Smith v Clayton match. Clayton is probably my favourite player and I really think he will go the distance but Smith has played really well in the tournament so far.

I've just seen that Van Gerwen has also had to withdraw, it seems the Dutch all stayed in England over the break due to covid but as they spent Xmas together they have all ended up with it anyway Sad. Price has posted on his Instagram to say the tournament is devalued now and I have to agree.

OP posts:
ExquisitelyDecorated · 28/12/2021 17:48

Oh no, not another one.

Annabelle69 · 28/12/2021 22:57

I had table tickets for 27th Dec, but the OH and I had to make a tough call not to go. There is no way we wouldn't get covid and it was just a no no. Absolutely gutted as we had our fancy dress ready. I've been before and it's hilarious, a great atmosphere, and the best day out (and we didn't even drink).

Gary Anderson and Ryan Searle fan. Ryan did so well to win today, and if he didn't play darts he'd be perfect as a Anglo Saxon film extra Smile

SlingingArrows · 29/12/2021 08:27

@ExquisitelyDecorated yes it's such a shame, I would be surprised if Van Duijvenbode didn't also get it now.

@Annabelle69 that is such a shame but I'm sure you have made the right decision, we have been to Blackpool and it's such a great day. What/who were you going to go as?

OP posts:
SlingingArrows · 29/12/2021 08:29

Also a fan of Anderson and Searle and it's good to see that practising together seems to have helped both of them, Ryan did brilliantly yesterday.

OP posts:
ExquisitelyDecorated · 29/12/2021 08:54

Anderson's my favourite, I didn't see most of the Searle match yesterday but watched Wright later on.

I find it tricky balancing my viewing, don't want to miss a great match but it's quite easy to get to the final and realise darts is virtually all I've watched over the whole festive period and there's so much other good stuff to see.

ExquisitelyDecorated · 29/12/2021 11:56

And now Dave Chisnall's tested positive Sad

SlingingArrows · 29/12/2021 12:54

@ExquisitelyDecorated I'm with you on trying to find the right balance with matches, we have ended up being quite busy so I've not managed to catch as many as I normally would do, I've got the first match on now but we are going to see family in an hour and not sure I will catch any of this evenings. I would like to watch Clayton v Smith so hoping we will be home by then!

Such a shame that Chisnall is out too, I wonder if/how many more there will be.
