After all my years on Mumsnet I thought I would give this thread a go and see if there are any fellow darts fans about?

I wasn't planning on starting it until next week when the competition has picked up a bit but after that match between Borland and Brooks I couldn't not post now!

So, I know I am probably alone but if there is anyone out there come and chat with me Grin

He's loving it. Standing joke in our family that Anderson is 'my boy'. So he's had to pick his boy as well.

Looking forward to tonight. Had a little 50p bet on the scores and ds 4 leg acca still live. I'm an ex matched bettor. No time these days but a little flutter on the darts makes it fun and interesting 😉.

Photo is him the other night absolutely transfixed by it. Temporary tattoos and skateboarding gloves optional.

Placemarking.
Love the darts in our house. Have watched with DS2 every year since he was little.

HighlandCowbag · 01/01/2022 20:34

Rydz seems quite confident.

itispersonal · 01/01/2022 21:41

What a game between Wright and Rydz

First match watched of the tournament as don't have sky sports.

Darts has got interesting again for me over the last few years now Taylor has gone and MvG is not at this best, makes it more interesting as it's not the same people winning in the final.

SlingingArrows · 01/01/2022 21:43

First time I have watched Rydz and what a great player he is, gutted for him that he couldn't take it all the way.

dinahsdishes · 01/01/2022 22:33

Rydz was fantastic- and we've just had another 9! 🎯🎯🎯

HighlandCowbag · 01/01/2022 23:14

This is an epic match as well. Hope Smith wins, Price is an awesome player but very much the man we love to hate. Tho ds will be gutted if he goes.

SlingingArrows · 01/01/2022 23:20

YES SMITH!!!

Our tv gave up during the smith match.
Delighted he bet price, I really struggle to like that man.
Rydz was amazing, he'll be one to watch in the future.
First year letting ds 9 watch too, joining in our Christmas tradition

MrsDeaconClaybourne · 01/01/2022 23:42

Can't believe I've only just seen this thread! I love darts. Definitely part of our Christmas traditions. Gradually draw in more and more family members as they watch with us 😁 Loved seeing Smith win today. Divided loyalty as love Peter Wright but enjoyed seeing Rydz come through.

Not sure who I want to win now. DH is Scottish so we usually support both Wright and Anderson but I'd love to see Wade win.

JaneJeffer · 01/01/2022 23:45

I've started threads previous years but they never get much traffic!

Delighted Smith beat Price but now he's playing my favourite James Wade next.

ExtremelyDetermined · 01/01/2022 23:56

I don't like Wade (I think we've had this conversation before @JaneJeffer) but haven't seen any of his matches so far in this tournament. Smith and Anderson for the final for me.

Good games tonight. I'm not a Price fan and used to really dislike him but he has really grown up and keeps his cool despite the abuse he gets from the crowd and for that I respect him.

Annabelle69 · 02/01/2022 00:23

I'd also love a Smith / Anderson final. They're good friends too.

YAY Smith! So glad Smith knocked out Price. I just can't stand the way Price over celebrates. He scored a double 6, in an unimportant leg at the start of the match, and celebrated like he'd won the Championship FGS! He looks into the camera all the time, like a kid checking you saw their really good wheelie. It's ridiculous! Urgh. Bye!

Rydz was so confident, he made me completely confident he'd win. Shame he didn't.

Agree. Far more open now and much better for the sport. Anyone can win.
ExtremelyDetermined · 02/01/2022 08:07

Yes, I agree it's much more interesting now than in the Taylor / MVG domination years, new players can break through and go all the way.

I'm a James Wade fan, always root for him.

I also like Price, not fussed on Wright at all.

CheesyChipsOnWembleyWay · 02/01/2022 11:44

Really looking forward to tonight. I wouldn't mind any of the four winning. Always have a soft spot for Wade and would love to see him do well to shut Mardle up a bit.

Had a couple of tiny bets yesterday that did well - 20p on a 9 darter and 50p on 16 or more ton plus finishes in the evening session yesterday - now £20 up!

SlingingArrows · 02/01/2022 12:39

Glad to have some more people joining us, I didn't think this thread would get any replies at all so even though it's been quiet it's better than I expected, It's nice to have someone to chat about darts with other than DH!

I so very nearly cashed out on my Smith bet yesterday thinking £20 was better than nothing but oh how glad I am I didn't! So obviously I am backing Smith in that match and then I am torn between Anderson and Wright. I like both but probably prefer Anderson but I'm struggling to decide on who I think will win.

I love that price is out and the tournament has opened up even more, it's a shame Clayton isn't still in as I thought it could have been his year.

@CheesyChipsOnWembleyWay well done on the £20! I had 80p (trying to get my balance to a round amount Grin) on each player to get 9 180's in yesterday's evening sessions, it was only to win £6 but Price let me down as he kept going for 177 instead Angry, another reason to dislike him!

I think I've been on a thread years ago too!

We are travelling today and aiming to be home and in pjs to watch. Grin
I might have a look at putting a couple of ££ on someone to pass the journey time.

Am glad it's going on into the new year this time, prolonging the holiday feeling!

JaneJeffer · 02/01/2022 13:08

Ah yes @ExtremelyDetermined I think we have chatted about James before. I've only seen one of his matches so far but DS1 tells me he's playing brilliantly. Darts are a family affair in this house Grin

Rydz was amazing but what the heck is going on with his hair? It's like an old man's comb-over!

SingleHandSue · 02/01/2022 13:18

Hi 👋🏻 Another darts fan here just finding this thread.

Last night was brilliant, such a shame Rydz didn’t win, I don’t mind Wright but would have loved to see him win it.

We were all cheering for Smith in this house. I must admit there was a lot of shouting rude things at Price, we can’t bear that man here 😄

MrsDeaconClaybourne · 02/01/2022 14:46

We were fascinated by Rydz's hair. Very odd for a young man. Am sure he'd look fine with it just short at the front.

I have a real soft spot for Wade. Have watched him since he was young and seemed like he'd be the next big thing. Think he's done so well to keep playing despite his problems. I'd love to see him win. Don't hate Price as much as I used to as he's sort of transformed a bit into pantomime villain these days. He still annoys me though!

Annabelle69 · 02/01/2022 14:59

Rydz Hair: Important topic Wink If you look at older pics of him he was thinning at the front. I "think" he may have had a transplant or some sort of toupee arrangement. Either way it just draws attention to his hair, and the man just needs to get a "Grant Mitchell" and nothing more would be said!

@SlingingArrows Michael Smith is doing well for you!

JaneJeffer · 02/01/2022 15:12

Sore loser
