Any darts fans about? World championships 2022

After all my years on Mumsnet I thought I would give this thread a go and see if there are any fellow darts fans about?

I wasn't planning on starting it until next week when the competition has picked up a bit but after that match between Borland and Brooks I couldn't not post now!

So, I know I am probably alone but if there is anyone out there come and chat with me Grin

In the old days (pre Covid) we didn't tend to see much of the before Christmas sessions, but then would start watching and find our favourites had already gone out. Last year with lockdown I think we probably saw every single match but it was just too much. I've dipped in and out more this year but have started at the beginning as we tried to stay home for the last couple of weeks before Christmas just in case. Will probably watch the first two matches tonight, Anderson and Price.

hammyhamster72 · 29/12/2021 14:50

Love the darts and have since being a kid. Am off to watch it on New Year's Day and cannot wait. Christmas isn't Christmas without it and as my Christmas has been spectacularly rubbish it has kept me going!
@ExquisitelyDecorated yes it's such a shame, I would be surprised if Van Duijvenbode didn't also get it now.

@Annabelle69 that is such a shame but I'm sure you have made the right decision, we have been to Blackpool and it's such a great day. What/who were you going to go as?
@SlingingArrows - We were going as OH a Squid and me Mini Mouse. Because those two outfits always go so well together! I had a lovely tutu, ears etc. Nevermind, hopefully next year.

Annabelle69 · 29/12/2021 16:50

@ExquisitelyDecorated

And now Dave Chisnall's tested positive Sad
MVG was very angry about this in the press today. Apparently there are no proper covid pass checks going on at the door (part of the reason we didn't go) and it's rife. I really hope not, but we could get to a situation where one of the finalists tests positive Regardless, how bitter-sweet for whoever wins.

@ExquisitelyDecorated and @SlingingArrows good to see more Searle and Anderson fans :) I'm really rooting for Ryan and love his "under stated celebrations", the polar opposite of Price. I'll tune in to tonight's games, or whatever players are left anyway!

ExquisitelyDecorated · 29/12/2021 20:35

Wow!

SlingingArrows · 29/12/2021 21:41

@ExquisitelyDecorated

Wow!
Not sure what I have missed but luckily just got home in time for Clayton V Smith!

@Annabelle69 sounds fab I really hope you can put them to good use next year Sad

I've not seen MVG's interview but it's a real worry that a finalist could test positive.

Wow! referred to the Anderson match, he was match dart down and turned it completely around.

Smith v Clayton nailbiting!

CheesyChipsOnWembleyWay · 29/12/2021 23:12

What a night. Incredible performances. The respect between Clayton and Smith was good to see too.

SlingingArrows · 29/12/2021 23:18

What a brilliant match and so great to see the sportsmanship between Clayton and Smith, it's incredible that it was only a round 4 match.

Massive darts fan here. What an incredible final match!

HighlandCowbag · 29/12/2021 23:23

Love the darts here!

ExquisitelyDecorated · 29/12/2021 23:34

I'm going out tomorrow night Shock.

Annabelle69 · 30/12/2021 00:11

I love Anderson, but he can't play that badly again and expect to win.

I wanted Smith to win, but Clayton really is such a sportsman. The quality of that match was outrageous.

Noppert has tested positive for Covid now. I really really hope Ryan Searle is OK.

SlingingArrows · 30/12/2021 08:16

Oh no I didn't know about Noppert, I really hope Searle hasn't caught it.

Agree about Anderson, he left it VERY late to turn that around and doesn't seem to be at his best.
CheesyChipsOnWembleyWay · 30/12/2021 15:16

I like Anderson too but he always leaves it late and does "just enough".

Callan Rydz has a great attitude. There's been a lot of great sportsmanship the last few days - hope Gerwyn Price takes note!

SlingingArrows · 30/12/2021 21:27

I've not managed to catch any of Callan Rydz's matches but my DH said the same about him having a great attitude.

Just watching Cross and Anderson, I can't believe Anderson just bust 129! Totally agree re him always doing 'just enough' in recent years.

Annabelle69 · 31/12/2021 18:56

Anderson / Cross - that was the old Gary Anderson back on form. Fantastic. Plus I'm always happy to see Cross go.

I've got high hopes for the Price / Smith game. Come on Smith! I'd also like to see Mervyn King do well.

SlingingArrows · 01/01/2022 08:53

I very rarely gamble (especially on darts) but paddy power were doing an offer where if you bet £5 on someone to win the tournament outright, for each 180 they got in their first match you got a £2 free bet.

I chose Smith at 25/1, not because I was confident he was going to win the tournament but because I hopeful he would get plenty of 180's and I would get more than my £5 stake back in free bets. He got 7 180's in his first match so I got £14 in free bets which I have used here and there on a few other matches and made about £20, but also he is obviously still in so i now really need him to win today as I will be one step closer to £130!! He is now 5/1 to win Grin.

I seriously think the winner of the tournament is in the Price v Smith game so keeping all my fingers crossed it is Smith!

SlingingArrows · 01/01/2022 08:54

Gary had changed his darts back to what he was using for the world championships last year, hopefully he will stick with them today!

Annabelle69 · 01/01/2022 10:47

@SlingingArrows I rarely bet either but that that was a good choice with Smith. I really hope he wins, with the added bonus of Price going home.

Today I'd like King to beat Wade (King is such a nearly man). Anderson (of course) to beat Humphries. Rydz (I love an underdog, except when they'replaying Anderson) to beat Wright.

Should be a good day Smile

SlingingArrows · 01/01/2022 11:48

@Annabelle69 I am with you on all of those results Smile

HighlandCowbag · 01/01/2022 12:02

Am excited for today. Ds (8) is joining me and dh in loving the Christmas darts.

I had Anderson as my overall winner cos he's my boy and I won the first time he won it all so its tradition. Dh had someone else who has gone so he's switched to Smith. Ds has picked Gerwen Price so it's all to play for today.

Then we have daft little 50p bets on scores. Costs a couple of quid but keeps us happy and shouting at the telly for the day. Ds is up £2.87 overall so far. We started with a £20 darts fund and its at about £30 so far so doing OK.

SlingingArrows · 01/01/2022 17:07

@HighlandCowbag that's so lovely that your DS can get involved too, I have fond memories of being allowed to bet £1 on the horses some weekends as a kid Smile.

A shame for King to lose 5-0 and it will be interesting to see how Wade does in his semi considering his average was only in the 80's, but I'm glad Anderson won. I feel asleep for the first half of the match but enjoyed what I saw towards the end.

Looking forward to tonight's matches.
