Equestrian Eventing thread

Anyone up and going to watch the dressage? I thought I’d start a new thread for the next few days of eventing.

Watching on iPlayer but I missed the reason someone got an 11pt penalty - sounded like they said it was a frangible pin infraction? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yes you get 11 penalties for knocking a rail down, they have frangible pins holding the rail up so they can give way if hit hard enough. This stops the fence being so solid that it could cause the horse to fall if it hits it at speed

I’ve got Lucinda as well. Not sure who the male commentator is.

Yes there have been a couple of pins gone. They have pins that will break if the fence is hit hard. They’re meant to go in the case where someone might have otherwise fallen. But if they go they incur penalties. Some on this course seem to have gone almost too easily.

I've just caught up this morning. The heat seemed really tough for the less classy horses. Massively well done to all 3 of the Brits, and I agree Laura Collett is amazing. Will be interesting to watch the showjumping in this heat. I imagine lots of the horses will find it difficult to recover overnight. Always a shame when the challenge comes from the weather! I've been to Japan in October (so not summer) and it was oppressively humid. I dont envy them .

Yes it’s horrible to hear the news from the Swiss camp.
I think the show jumping will be run late by Tokyo time so that they’ve got a while to recover and it won’t be so hot.

I can't watch! I have it on but I'm going to do housework and hoover. That's how stressful it it!!
