Anyone up and going to watch the dressage? I thought I’d start a new thread for the next few days of eventing.

And endless boxing ...admittedly some terrific female boxers but still ...

Toastfiendish · 31/07/2021 17:59

Yes I agree about the class stereotyping.... They never give the backstory of some of the riders who come from quite "normal" backgrounds. Im sort of forgiving them this coverage because I know they are not fully in control of it but I do think they have neglected equestrianism more generally even when they controlled the feed. It's all very random this time - they were showing 3 on 3 basketball the other day on the main feed....

At the last Olympics I found it baffling that they showed the most dressage (although I know our medal prospects were good) when to me this is the most inaccessible of the disciplines to someone who doesn't know anything about the sport, but I might be wrong.

Anyway, I'm very excited about this evening. Does anyone know anything about the course?

I love cricket but I'm not bothering with the hundred - can't get over the awful graphics and the fact each team is sponsored by a brand of crisps Confused

Bryonyshcmyony · 31/07/2021 18:03

I think they will show the xc and sj. They never show the dressage at badminton either, you have to sign up to horse and country to listen to the marvellous Pammy Hutton criticise all the eventers doing dressage Grin

Course looks beautiful but definitely a 3/4 star rather than the huge technically difficult Bicton earlier in the year. Quick, the jumps come up very fast

Honeyroar · 31/07/2021 20:20

It’s not scheduled to be shown, is it?

BelladiMamma · 31/07/2021 20:23

I'm going to watch!

William fox pitt has posted about the course in his Facebook page

Honeyroar · 31/07/2021 20:26

They all say it’s easy when they’re not doing it!😀
Eventing Nation had a good article about the course with the reaction of several riders. The poor Thai rider that is first out sounds incredibly inexperienced. 😱

I am watching BBC1 at the moment and they have just mentioned they will be showing the eventing from midnight, hope they give it a decent amount of coverage and not just one or two riders.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 31/07/2021 20:47

I wondered whether they didn't show much of the eventing dressage because we have already had some dressage?

If we could only see two out of three, dressage is probably the one I'd drop so I'm not too upset. I'm tempted to stay up and watch a bit tonight.

Bryonyshcmyony · 31/07/2021 21:42

Dd and I have been looking forward to it all week. She did her own cross country today at a very much lower level, so I feel we've prepared well for tonight

Honeyroar · 31/07/2021 22:29

I read somewhere that it’s on bbc from 1210, which is about half an hour after Oliver and an hour before Laura! I’ll probably put it on, but still watch Discovery plus to be safe!

The BBC coverage is limited because in this Olympics Discovery+ have the main European rights and the BBC are only allowed one main channel and one iPlayer channel, unlike previous years. They have to decide what sports to show (I agree that their choices are questionable).
Eurosport has always been part of our SkyQ package. It's far superior coverage to the BBC at times.
Discovery+ is also free for a year for all SkyQ customers and you can choose every Olympic sport.

BelladiMamma · 31/07/2021 23:38

Am watching in discovery + although annoyingly the app has failed on my TV so I'm having to screen mirror via my phone!

Enjoy, everyone. Let's see how long we all stay up for. Time to get a cuppa and a choccie.

Fell off my horse showjumping 2 weeks ago so I'm hoping not to see any nasty falls 😱 for purely selfish trigger reasons!

bluetongue · 31/07/2021 23:44

I’m watching the preview of the eventing now.

As shit as Australian free to air TV is most of the time they have a pretty good setup for this Olympics. You go into the ‘7plus’ streaming site or on your TV and you can choose between about 8-10 live events happening and watch them in full. Plus of course Tokyo is almost in the same time zone as most of Australia.

BelladiMamma · 31/07/2021 23:48

Oh no 🙈 poor girl

bluetongue · 31/07/2021 23:48

Gong first is tough Sad

BelladiMamma · 31/07/2021 23:50

So glad she's ok

bluetongue · 31/07/2021 23:52

Love me a nice grey Smile

BelladiMamma · 31/07/2021 23:54

Utter beauty

BelladiMamma · 31/07/2021 23:56

Want to watch the grey! Was that the course finished? Fuck me there's some sharp turns

Polkadotties · 31/07/2021 23:58

Oliver is making this look easy!

bluetongue · 01/08/2021 00:03

Oliver’s horse looks so honest but a really scopey jumper as well. At the same time brilliant at the narrow, technical jumps (no doubt helped by great riding).

Bryonyshcmyony · 01/08/2021 00:15

What happened to the Thai girl?

Course looks pretty straightforward so far

Bryonyshcmyony · 01/08/2021 00:21

I'm not loving the coverage
Maybe I'm just tired but seems to be very bitty?

Polkadotties · 01/08/2021 00:22

Thai rider went for a swim.

Bryonyshcmyony · 01/08/2021 00:23

Ah.
