I now love football: who should I support?

Following England this year has really given me a love for the game and I want to see more! I'm thinking I should start supporting a team. Wondering who you support and why, is it a team that's been in your family, or your local team?

As you can see from my name I love Kalvin Philips but am guessing he will be snapped up and taken away from Leeds now? Unless he stays true to his roots 🤔

I was a Man U and they will forever have my heart.

Might have to my eye on Villa though.

SavageBeauty73 · 12/07/2021 11:46

We support Arsenal. Always have (live in North London).

What's your local team?

UnalliterativeGeorge · 12/07/2021 11:47

If you like a roller-coaster then follow Norwich. They love a play off every couple of years.

squiddylama · 12/07/2021 11:48

Chelsea over here!

LadyCatStark · 12/07/2021 11:50

Where do you live? Who do your family support?

‘We’ support Liverpool as all of DH’s family do and it’s our joint closest city that has Premier League teams with Manchester. I’m not really into football but I do love Liverpool as a city!

fairynick · 12/07/2021 12:10

Forget about the prem, it’s rubbish! Be a proper football fan, and support your local team - it’s the best football you’ll ever watch!

fairynick · 12/07/2021 12:10

From a city fan hahaha

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 12/07/2021 12:19

Support your local team! (Or at least the closest one in the prem/championship to you so you can at least go and watch matches. Don't just follow a player!

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 12/07/2021 12:22

Liverpool
You'll never walk alone

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 12/07/2021 12:24

We go to watch our local team, which is in the Premier league currently. We were still there when there we in the third tier though.

IMO lower league football tickets can be expensive for the quality. IIRC it's over £30 to see Charlton Athletic in the third tier, and if you choose your fixtures carefully you can see a top team for the same money.

Have you thought about watching the women's Super League? Tickets are usually under a tenner, and IMO it's better, more skilful football than leagues and two. We have the Women's Euros here next year, with group games all over England, and I'm really looking forward to going.

Sisisimone · 12/07/2021 12:30

Where do you live?

TakeYourFinalPosition · 12/07/2021 12:34

Phillips has been absolutely amazing during the tournament. If he's helped you find a love for footie, support Leeds? As far as I'm aware, he's not being widely linked to a move elsewhere right now...

Otherwise it's just a guessing game.

Arsenal made me fall in love with football, years and years ago, I loved the way they played. I've followed them for over a decade now, for my sins Grin

Marmite27 · 12/07/2021 12:39

DH is a Leeds fan, they’ve grafted for the last few years to get back into the premiership and I think the squad are happy under Bielsa. I’ve not heard rumours of him leaving, and I would have heard they’re pretty obsessed around here.

Where are you from, and where do you live? I have a fondness for Newcastle after going their for Uni and going to matches.

Marmite27 · 12/07/2021 12:40

Be warned though, most other clubs despise Leeds (aka dirty Leeds). So it’s a tough calling Wink

GirlAloud · 12/07/2021 12:41

Support your local team, or the team of your home town, particularly if they don’t play in the Premier League, because smaller teams need your support more. ‘Proper’ fans tend to roll their eyes at people who have no connection to Manchester who support United.

I support my team because the town is where I was born, grew up and went to school. We currently play in the championship, but I would support them whichever league they played in.

Restlessinthenorth · 12/07/2021 12:45

Leeds fan here. It is highly, highly unlikely that Kalvin will leave Leeds anytime soon. He is a true Leeds man and a loyal servant of the club. Could have gone to the Prem when Leeds were stuck in the Championship but didn't, such is his allegiance to the team. He is adored in Leeds, and his family are well rotted here.

Leeds is an amazing club to follow; so engaged with the fans (my son got a hand written xmas card from Bielsa, in return for the one he went to him!). Maybe watch the documentary "Take us Home" and see what you think

Carrott21 · 12/07/2021 12:47

You don't get to choose! Grin. It's where you live.

PiggyPlumPie · 12/07/2021 12:47

My home town all the way! Derby County for my sins.

Now live in Aberdeenshire but will always be a Ram!

Bielsa is amazing. I worry for the club when he leaves, he’s instilled such an amazing culture it’d be a shame to lose that.
DuncinToffee · 12/07/2021 12:54

Everton but be warned it won't be easy 💙 UTFT

But check out your local team(s) first.

MrsJackGrealish · 12/07/2021 12:56

@GirlAloud

I'm from Essex and supported Man United for years.

It was Gary Neville's fault.

dementedma · 12/07/2021 12:59

Everton for dh and ds.

PiggyPlumPie · 12/07/2021 13:00

@MrsJackGrealish my DD had a massive crush on Steven Gerrard when she was six years old - she is now 22 and still a die-hard Liverpool fan. There's no accounting for taste! Grin

MadisonAvenue · 12/07/2021 13:00

Man Utd supporter for 36 years and season ticket holder. I go with my 21 year old son.

ILookAtTheFloor · 12/07/2021 13:00

West Ham, especially if you want the England experience of regular disappointment Wink

But probably your local team.

Not Man U or some other glory hunter team though (unless you come from a long line of dyed in the wool Man U fans) Cos that's Zzzz in my view.
