I now love football: who should I support?

Following England this year has really given me a love for the game and I want to see more! I'm thinking I should start supporting a team. Wondering who you support and why, is it a team that's been in your family, or your local team?

As you can see from my name I love Kalvin Philips but am guessing he will be snapped up and taken away from Leeds now? Unless he stays true to his roots 🤔

For me, my football club was much like my cat (now deceased) and my political party. I didn't choose them, they chose me.

I had lived in the city of the club I supported, but the political party and the football club came at very much the same time - with very much the same ethics.

40 years later, both club and country seem to be still holding the same/similar lines

Chelsea here! It's our local team.

Orangecinnamon21 · 12/07/2021 23:09

Chelsea here too. We moved to the coast 20 years ago though...makes going to matches difficult but I'm sure not that many were able to stay in the area. We have season tickets ...which are quite hard to use tbh due to DH shifts but determined to make the most of it next seasons
...been lurking on these threads and reinsurer a bit....also feel it is even more important to represent diversity in the crowd if you can (despite the long train journeys). The Women's team are amazing !
DH will also watch our local team, good laugh apparently.
I won't say I don't get nervous going to matches sometimes, potential trouble etc. After one particular incident DH kept taking someone else instead of me for about a year as I couldn't face it. Nothing changes if nothing changes though right,?

Been Man City since the 60s and Francis Lee - met my DH in the 80s and he's a blue from Manchester 💙

Germolenequeen · 12/07/2021 23:17

And believe me it was very hard to support City through the bad times 😞

I'm from Derby and whole family supported them but when I was 15 I saw Liverpool on the tv and was hooked in! Now I live in the West Midlands so do have a soft spot for The Villa!

Well Leeds is very tempting, especially as I still have family living around there. The journey sounds exciting, obviously theres Kalvin 😍 and it sounds like a great bunch of people..
But....I think I need to support the local team so I can go to games as much as possible. I've been to a few Amex matches before, never noticed they served rosé there 😂
It will be Brighton for me, then. But if I ever move north of nottingham again, I'm switching to Leeds ❤ And yeah I like the idea of supporting a team that isnt a "monster". The struggles, the highs and the very lows, make it really fun I'm guessing!

It sounds like you are a Leeds supporter Kalvinette. You should stay true to that. Doesn't mean Brighton can't be your second team or three you can't go to any Brighton matches.

theworldsbiggestcrocodile · 13/07/2021 10:05

Sheffield Wednesday. But don't expect too much Grin

No, no, no!!! Nobody should have a "second team"!

OP the team we support and have season tickets for as a family is our closest big (I use the term loosely!) team. We're in the championship and it's a bloody rollercoaster but so exciting 😁

Mumsafan · 13/07/2021 15:12

We are season ticket holders at Liverpool. If you haven't got a local club, or a club from where you were born - look for a club that has something else that might appeal to you. Like one you can get to easily, or where you like the surrounding area, things like that.

@MrsJackGrealish

Oh *@PiggyPlumPie*

Are you my missing half?

Gary was reason for supporting Utd.

And hands of Grealish!

I stopped watching Football after my footie mad ex left. He killed football for me but think England have reignited it again.

I think we need to get married. Pronto. And live our lives with love of our Gaz in our hearts, and Grealish in our minds

@PollyDarton1

Name the date. I think we might soulmates.
