Is anyone getting sick of the anti-English bitterness at the moment? It's all over social media and MN. It's exhausting defending it.

On another thread - and I shouldn't bite I k ow - a poster is claiming that Denmark actually scored the own goal on purpose to 'let' England equalise because they felt bad about the dodgy free kick ConfusedHmmGrin I've heard some bollocks in my time but JFC what a take!

MrsGulDukat · 09/07/2021 13:23

@FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop

I hide those threads.

You cant argue with the bitter and miserable.

DuncinToffee · 09/07/2021 13:38

I read one of the threads and decided it was not worth my time and energy to take the bait. Although we could have fun with that bonkers own goal theory. Wink

My social media is luckily alright, mostly new kit launch and Toni Duggan returning.

What's interesting is that a high proportion of the 'anti-English bitterness' comes from...English people. It's a strange phenonemon. I don't think you'd see people in France or Italy or anywhere else actively cheering on any team but their own national team.

YY @IcedPurple

I loved, until a few years ago, in Scotland for 16 years. Contrary to popular belief there wasn't nearly as much anti-England feeling as there is in England. The local pub would air the matches and Scots would show up to support their neighbour. You'd get the odd prick there to cause bother and cheer when they lost but mostly the feeling was "live and let live". No whining from people who've seen a grand total of 2 games about what should and shouldn't have happened on the pitch

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 09/07/2021 14:26

total of 2 games

🤣
so bloody true

the80sweregreat · 09/07/2021 15:17

Dearie me, just heard John Stones being interviewed on the news.
Talk about painful !
' err, yeah , err ' it was like Pulling teeth 😂

VerticalHorizon · 09/07/2021 15:21

Yes, no well, yes. Team spirit. Kick ball. Give it 110%. For the country.
Thank you.

That'll be 180,000 a week ta very much

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 09/07/2021 15:25

The players interviews are brilliantly British. Lots of ums and ahs and mumbling along. American football teams give their players PR and public speaking training and it shows.

VerticalHorizon · 09/07/2021 15:28

There is a reason we need to put players names on their backs in big letters...

Footballers arent known for their intelligence.

the80sweregreat · 09/07/2021 15:31

180,000 a week .. yet string a sentence together and it's beyond them !!
Bless .

MrsGulDukat · 09/07/2021 15:33

Have fun with them yeah but dont be expecting a debate about Aristotle.

They'd probably think he was Brazilian left back.

Poor Stones! Public speaking isn't everyone's strong point I guess

the80sweregreat · 09/07/2021 15:48

No, I appreciate that public speaking is hard, but I'm sure that years ago the players would be a bit more animated ? Have a chat and a laugh? This was just painful !!
Still , as dh said, it's the feet that talk in football so maybe I'm a bit harsh on them!

MrsGulDukat · 09/07/2021 16:53

God job for Stones that hes talented and pretty.

VerticalHorizon · 09/07/2021 17:47

He has a slight look of a bulkier Cillian Murphy.

Aslong as the use of "At the end of the day" is kept to a minimum I'm ok with a big of Hugh Granting.
