This thread is for the Mumsnetters who attended one of the exclusive MN screenings of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 in London or Manchester with their DCs on Sunday 13th October. We hope you all had a great time and enjoyed the film!

"Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 picks up where Sony Pictures Animation’s mouth-watering comedy left off. Inventor Flint Lockwood thought he saved the world when he destroyed his most infamous invention - a machine that turned water into food causing cheeseburger rain and spaghetti tornadoes. But Flint soon learns that his invention survived and is now creating food-animals – "foodimals!" Flint and his friends embark on a dangerously delicious mission to battle hungry tacodiles, shrimpanzees, hippotatomuses, cheespiders and other foodimals to save the world – again!"

To find out more about the film (at cinemas from October 25 with previews 18, 19 & 20th) and watch the trailer, visit the Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 pages on Mumsnet

Below are a few questions for you to answer but please do add any other comments you may have.

We'd also love it if you could upload some pictures of your day to this thread.

Yes Mrspink; I loved the nods to other films; jurassic park, king kong, avatar, jaws amongst others!

Please give a brief, one sentence review of the film
An enjoyable second helping of crazy food fun and mayhem for all the family!

Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it?
My DD said she would give it 3 or 4 stars, I would give it 3. :)

What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film? Who is their favourite character and why?
My DD had lots of favourite parts! She said she thought ot was funny when Barry the Strawberry gets scared and poos out the key he swallowed in a plop of jam! She also liked it when some chesse gets cut and makes a fart noise, the 'leek' in the car joke and also the scene when they are going through the jungle and see all the foodimals like the flamangos and shrimpanzees, and the double bacon cheesespider!

Barry was her favourite character. :)

What did your DCs love best about the day?
She loved everything! when I asked her she listed the photo booth, the kids pak and stickers, the popcorn and of course being in the cinema!

What did you/your DCs think of the SUBWAY® Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 themed Kids' Pak™ that your DC received (thanks to the team at SUBWAY)?
My DD really enjoyed her Kids Pak meal, she thought it was a real treat. She was very pleased with her stickers & little themed bag and now wants to use it to take her lunch to nursery. She was happy there was a Bear YoYo in it as she loves them and wolfed down her sandwich and juice in seconds! :)

What was your overall experience of the screening?
We both found the 3D a bit off putting (My DD kept saying she wanted to take her glasses of as her eyes felt funny and mine hurt a little!) and would have found watching the film in 2D better. Apart from that we had a great time, good atmosphere, lots of popcorn and a bit of a giggle. A fun morning in all! :)

If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 to friends and family? Why?
I would recommend it to family & friends if they were looking for a good bit of silly fun. It may not be the things that classics are made of but it is worth a watch.

Flapdoodles · 13/10/2013 22:46

Thank you Mumsnet and Sony for arranging this.

Colourful, well produced, fun, imaginative film for all the family.

  • Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? (5 is highest and 1 is lowest)
All four of us give it at 5.
  • What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film? Who is their favourite character and why?
DS liked the cheeseburger, both when we thought it was nasty and when it was nice. DD and DDs friend liked the strawberry because it was "cute" I liked Steve the monkey and I liked the crayon joke.
  • What did your DCs love best about the day?
They loved all of it.
  • What did you/your DCs think of the SUBWAY® Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 themed Kids' Pakâ„¢ that your DC received (thanks to the team at SUBWAY)?
We have been to Subway before so my 2 loved the sandwiches. There were bits of salad they were not happy with but all 3 children just picked off the bits they did not want.
  • What was your overall experience of the screening?
The staff were smiley and could not do enough (the balloon modeller in particular spent time making jokes and chatting and kept the children entertained). The face painting was fab and I loved the photo, a lovely momento. All in all a great trip to the cinema and a fantastic way to spend dreary Sunday.
  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 to friends and family? Why?
Yes I would. It is good family fun and I liked the quick reminder at the beginning of what happened in the first film .

  • Please give a brief, one sentence review of the film:
Wittier, funnier, foodier than the first.
  • Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? (5 is highest and 1 is lowest)
DS1 (6 yrs): 5 stars DS2 (5 yrs): 10 stars (because it was brilliant) DH: 4 stars Me: 4 stars
  • What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film? Who is their favourite character and why?
DCs both loved Strawbarry - the bit where he poo-ed the key out as jam was their favourite (although led to some debate afterwards, as DS2 thought that he had vomited it - we will need to get the DVD in due course to settle the argument). DH and I both loved the Steve Jobs-esque Chester V. DH also loved the sardine-eating pickles, and their interaction with Flint's dad. And the end credits were well worth staying on for - very witty and clever. Even the DCs, who normally want to bolt from the cinema as the end credits roll, in case we get locked in, were happy to stay for them.
  • What did your DCs love best about the day?
They loved the film, and also being part of a special launch event, especially the balloon modelling. They've been looking forward to it for weeks, and are now looking forward to going to school tomorrow and telling their friends all about it.
  • What did you/your DCs think of the SUBWAY® Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 themed Kids' Pakâ„¢ that your DC received (thanks to the team at SUBWAY)?
They liked the YoYo Bears, and the CapriSun drink (although I think that an Innocent smoothie would have been a better fit), but they didn't enjoy the ham sandwich. The promotional lunch bags went down well, and have now been commandeered to house Moshi Monsters.
  • What was your overall experience of the screening?
We were at the Vue in Shepherd's Bush Westfield. Overall it was great - the balloon modellers and photographers were friendly and efficient; the Joeseph popcorn was delicious; and seeing the film in 3D (our first!) was amazing. Things that could have been done better: signposting the screen for the event in the foyer of the cinema, rather than having us ask staff where to go; providing a cloakroom for coats would have been very welcome; maybe some offers or discounts at child-friendly restaurants in Westfield. But these are minor gripes - it was a very well organised event, and we all had a fantastic time.
  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 to friends and family? Why?
Yes, and not just because we had a great outing! It was funny and sweet, with some clever jokes. DH and I thought it was much better than the first one, which the DCs loved, but we thought didn't work as well on an adult level. And we're going to get the DVD in due course - partly to settle the dispute about Strawbarry pooing/vomiting the key, but also because DH and I want to see it again too....!

  • Please give a brief, one sentence review of the film

A rockin and rollin non stop roller coaster ride with plenty of laughs.

  • Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? (5 is highest and 1 is lowest)
4 and dc 4
  • What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film? Who is their favourite character and why?

When the ape join the gang at the end of the film, as my son always roots for the under dog or characters who have find the right path.

Favourite character Steve.

  • What did your DCs love best about the day?

They loved the pre film activities which made them feel really special and lucky.

  • What did you/your DCs think of the SUBWAY® Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 themed Kids' Pakâ„¢ that your DC received (thanks to the team at SUBWAY)?

Stickers, drawings were great, loved the food.

  • What was your overall experience of the screening?

Great experience, top class but presented in a friendly relaxed way, which is very difficult to do. Excellent day out.

  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 to friends and family? Why?

Yep definitely. It's very different from other kids movies. It has its own special and unique qualities, with lots of laughs, and genuine encouragement for difference bonded together in friendship.

Thanks MN for a brilliant day out!

Highanddry · 14/10/2013 07:38

Please give a brief, one sentence review of the film

Slightly random (maybe it was because we hadn't seen the first one) and in places quite surreal but lots of fun and suitable for littlies.

  • Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? (5 is highest and 1 is lowest)

I would give it 3 stars
DS1 (5 years) said 5 stars

  • What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film? Who is their favourite character and why?

DS1 (5 years) - He liked when Berry took over the robot suit and got the baddies.
Favourite characters - Berry and Flint

DS2 (2.5 years) - when the man in the chicken suit lost his clothes.
Favourite character - Berry and Steve

Me and DH - liked Live Corp HQ and all the geeky jokes. Also like the lost word / Jurassic park bit when they see all the foodimals for the first time.
Favourite character - DH liked the policeman with the chest hair. I liked Flint and the Gerkins.

  • What did your DCs love best about the day?

DS1 - everything apparently. He refused to be pinned down any further on that one.
DS2 - the food and the glasses.
I think they both liked the balloon animals a lot.

  • What did you/your DCs think of the SUBWAY® Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 themed Kids' Pakâ„¢ that your DC received (thanks to the team at SUBWAY)?

They both seemed to enjoy them. All gone before the film even started. No complaints about taste - slight nose turning up about the few bits of lettuce (as usual) but they did get eaten. They liked the fruit Yoyo the best.
They liked the bags and carried them around all day. The activity sheet was colourful but there wasn't actually that much they could do with the crayons provided. A few more puzzles and slightly less images maybe?

  • What was your overall experience of the screening?

We had a lovely time as we were able to make a day of it. The popcorn on the seats was very good and certainly kept DS2 happy for most of the film. The film itself was suitable for all of us - even the scary bits with the Cheese Spiders and Tacodiles didn't seem to worry them too much and there weren't any nightmares last night thankfully. There was enough adult content but not too much that it felt like a constant private joke (like some animated films these days). We only got chance to have balloon animals - the queues for the other activities were too long to wait in line with an excited 2 year old. That was a shame as we would have liked to get one of the green screen photos. Also seemed a little disorganised to begin with, we were being directed to the coffee for the adults but then it wasn't open and didn't open until 15 mins before so then there was a long queue there too. Overall though can't really complain when it was free :)

  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 to friends and family? Why?

I've in fact already recommended it. I'd recommend it to other friends with children of a similar age as a good family film. I've also recommended it to some of my more techy friends as I think they would appreciate the geek humour in it.

I'm attaching a photo of DS2 enjoying his Subway meal.

Blush realise that I didn't answer all the questions properly - issue with doing it whilst enjoying lunch in one of the many delish restaurants in the Westfield Complex Grin!

I would call it a 'smackingly, foodstastic film' with enough cheesy, corny (get it???) jokes to keep the adults smiling too!

Apart from DW who is not the biggest fan of animation (bah humbug!), the children and I thought it worthy of 5/5 and that's with a nearly 13 year old DS and an 8 year old DD!

The screening was fabulous (but I couldn't believe the general ticket prices at the complex - nearly £20 for one ticket to see a 3D film!!!), very comfortable seating, liked the fact that you could lift the seat dividers up - particularly useful for the family next to whose three boys had to squash/squeeze into two seats, and the staff were all very helpful and friendly!

We were less keen on the popcorn than other Mumsnetters and their families seemed to be, though...Obviously our palates are either a) not very sophisticated and/or b) not used to the finer things of life -grin.

And thank you to Sony too (grovel, grovel....)

I see someone brought up the issue of not getting the mini posters and activity packs - I had quite forgotten about those items (we felt treated enough) but have to say that realistically the mini-posters wouldn't have done well in the wet, rainy weather beyond the hermetic bubble of the Westfield Shopping Centre!

Thanks AnnMumsnet and fellow MumsnetterHQ (sorry forgotten your name) for organising this fab event, particularly as it seemed to be a very early start for most of us (yawn!).

Please give a brief, one sentence review of the film – good family entertainment, great animation and 3d effects

  • Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? (5 is highest and 1 is lowest)
Me and DP – 2/5 – felt it was a bit slow going, storyline was good but not our cup of tea, was funny in places, animation was great as were the 3d effects DD10 – 4/5 DD7 – 5/5 DS2 – answering for him but I would say 3/5, it was a little slow paced to keep his attention all the time and not enough action!
  • What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film? Who is their favourite character and why? Favourite part of the film was Steve the monkey with the candle. They all loved Berry, thought he was very cute and wanted one.
  • What did your DCs love best about the day? All of it, they said they felt very special and loved the photobooth and being able to take a photo home with them, enjoyed the balloons and facepainting too. Lovely surprise it being in 3D for everyone.
  • What did you/your DCs think of the SUBWAY® Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 themed Kids' Pakâ„¢ that your DC received (thanks to the team at SUBWAY)? They loved having their own little bag each, only DD10 ate the sandwich though (after picking off the salad), the others said it tasted funny, DP and I enjoyed them instead though. All liked the drink and fruit yoyo.
  • What was your overall experience of the screening? Thoroughly enjoyed by everyone, big thanks to Mumsnet and Sony.
  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 to friends and family? Why? I would recommend it for children in the 5-10 age group, possibly not for younger or older children.

Yes, moldingsunbeams, we got lovely Joe & Seph's popcorn in London. I had the ginger caramel flavour (which DD wasn't keen on, but I loved) and DD had the chocolate flavour.

Just to add to my previous post, DD didn't get a poster or activity pack but this wasn't even noticed by her as there was so much else going on to keep her amused, so not a problem. Also, would be great to have hot chocolate on offer alongside the tea and coffee.

  • Please give a brief, one sentence review of the film

A visually seductive, psychedelically pulsating, culturally and politically savvy, Avatar-pastiching hoot of a movie

  • Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? (5 is highest and 1 is lowest)

I and DH give it 5. My DD and DS give it 5.

  • What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film? Who is their favourite character and why?

I loved it all, but my very favourite thing was the inventiveness in making animal-fruit hybrids, such as Flamangoes.

DC loved it all. DS loved especially the final scenes when the robot teams are overcome. DD loved especially the background jokes, like Steve and the birthday candle. My favourite character: Manny. Their favourite character: Steve.

  • What did your DCs love best about the day?

The film itself - its 3D-ness was the best we have seen to date and the story captivated them too.

  • What did you/your DCs think of the SUBWAY® Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 themed Kids' Pakâ„¢ that your DC received (thanks to the team at SUBWAY)?

They loved the bag itself with its Cloudy pictures. They loved the Bear. They loved the juice, but they have become terrible snobs about food and would not eat the sub roll. They took one small bite and declared the roll far too sweet and soggy. I agree about the roll - but gobbled up the contents myself! They loved the stickers aswell.

  • What was your overall experience of the screening?
It was a fabulous day - even though we had to struggle to Shepherds Bush in the pouring rain. The activities were fun - if a bit chaotic. The balloon man was excellent. The Steve balloons were so cute. Arm painting of a pickle on DD was really lovely. Posh popcorn...to die for - thank you. We got fantastic seats - the cinema was comfortable, the screen big enough to sink into it. The 3D-tech was perfect - really sharp and good - well done Vue. The film was fun - started a little bit late, which was frustrating - but it all didn't matter in the end as we had such a good time and the atmosphere was so jolly.
  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 to friends and family? Why?
We already have - to everyone we have seen. We seem to have loved it far more than many reviewers in the US. We thought it was so sharp and politically aware, with all sorts of adult-oriented jokes about hip capitalism, about the world of computing, about current obsessions - it was so much infinitely better than Disney/Pixar efforts. I write about film and for academic reasons have to see Frozen soon. I know I will abominate it. Cloudy 2 was better than Cloudy 1 - the family stuff was not so hokey - family became family of man (animal, fruit....). It may be because I also write about GM and about the philosophy of consciousness in animals and objects, that this really grabbed me. But it grabbed DH too and the kids.....who don't , needless to say Anyway, have told everyone we have seen since (including a relative who was a fan of Cloudy 1) that they must see this.

Have forgotten to send pix to my work machine, so attach 1 but will send more tonight.

Please give a brief, one sentence review of the film - Flint & friend give us food for thought

  • Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? (5 is highest and 1 is lowest) - DS gave it 5 out of 5, DH & I gave it 4 out of 5.
  • What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film? Who is their favourite character and why? Our favourite part was Barry translating Flint's speech to the rest of the foodimals and all the foodimal puns. Our favourite character is Steve because he's so funny & energetic.
  • What did your DCs love best about the day? Apart from the film DS loved the whole 'VIP' experience of entertainment & goodies.
  • What did you/your DCs think of the SUBWAY® Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 themed Kids' Pakâ„¢ that your DC received (thanks to the team at SUBWAY)? DS loved his sandwich - cheese & ham is his favourite combo. He saved the fruit rolls till we got home.
  • What was your overall experience of the screening? We loved it. Thank you so much for choosing us. DH & I both work and it's rare we can all have 'family time' together. We ended up having a family lunch, going home & watching another film and then playing Monopoly together.
  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 to friends and family? Why? Definitely - it is funny, clever film with a subtle message, great characters, good use of 3D and well paced. We'll be adding it to our collection when it comes on DVD!

Please give a brief, one sentence review of the film
Fabulously funny, adventure-packed film for all the family!

  • Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? (5 is highest and 1 is lowest)
5 from DH and myself and 5 from the children. We all loved it!
  • What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film? Who is their favourite character and why?
We all loved the monkey blowing out the birthday candle repeatedly and the machine being run on 'cute'! and the DCs had two favourite characters the straw(berry) and Flint. They loved the strawberry because she was so cute and they loved Flint because of his expressions and because he was so funny.
  • What did your DCs love best about the day?

All of it! was their first response but they loved the face painting and the photo booth picture as well as the balloon modelling and said the film was brilliant!

  • What did you/your DCs think of the SUBWAY® Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 themed Kids' Pakâ„¢ that your DC received (thanks to the team at SUBWAY)?

I have bought them for my children before as they enjoy the subway packs. The Dcs were really pleased to have their subway lunch provided and were particularly please with the window sticker in the pack.

  • What was your overall experience of the screening?

Really good. I work in a school and have been telling all my collegues (with children) all about the film and the whole day saying how brilliant it was. The artists were great providing all the extras balloon modelling, face painting etc. We loved the lunch provided and also enjoyed the popcorn.

  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 to friends and family? Why?

Already have! My family and friends all saw the original cloudy and were keen to hear if the sequel was as good. I told them it was and to go and see it over half term.

Thank you so much for the opportunity of attending this screening. We all had a great day and the Dcs have lots to write in their news writing at school today!!!
I will post photos later when DH returns with the mobile! Halloween Grin I'm loving the seasonal smilies!!

  • Please give a brief, one sentence review of the film
DS has summed up the film as: "Incredibly exciting and fun!"
  • Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? (5 is highest and 1 is lowest)
4.5 out of 5
  • What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film? Who is their favourite character and why?
DS's favourite part of the film was when they all made the giant fishing rod together and launched Flint through the air! Favourite character was Steve the monkey, because monkeys are his favourite animals and he was really funny. DS would now like a talking monkey! (Any ideas where I can get one of those for Christmas!!!)
  • What did your DCs love best about the day?
DS enjoyed seeing the film best, espcially sitting in the VIP seats!
  • What did you/your DCs think of the SUBWAY® Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 themed Kids' Pakâ„¢ that your DC received (thanks to the team at SUBWAY)?
Unfortunately DS is allergic to fresh tomato so he was unable to eat the sandwich, which was a shame as a plain cheese and cucmuber sandwich would have gone down well. I enjoyed it though! Thanks Subway! He liked the bag though and will use it for packed lunches this week!
  • What was your overall experience of the screening?
We had a lovely day out, a real treat! It was well organised, the photo booth was really good too. I will definitely apply again if there is another showing! The film was great, it was lovely to be treated to refreshments and nice to meet some Mumnetters in person! Great venue to hold it in also as we were able to do a bit of shopping (in the many sports shops and the lego shop!) afterwards and DS particularly enjoyed the NFL activities that were also all free and got some more freebies from them too!
  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 to friends and family? Why?
I would definitely recommend this film to others, infact DS has spent most of the day at school telling his friends all about it and encouraging them to go along! He wants to see it again too!

Thanks so much Mumsnet, we had a lovely day!

Please give a brief, one sentence review of the film
Excellent - everybody will enjoy it. We watched the original the night before which helped with the plot!

Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? (5 is highest and 1 is lowest)
I'd say 5/5 - it's got humour for adults as well as kids
DD would give it 5/5 and DS 5/5

What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film? Who is their favourite character and why?
The DCs loved the marshmallows and Barry Strawberry. I loved the Jurassic Park bit. Very clever.

What did your DCs love best about the day?
Westfield! It's huge! No seriously they loved having their picture taken and have taken it into school today to show off. The 3 D was great too.

What did you/your DCs think of the SUBWAY® Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 themed Kids' Pak™ that your DC received (thanks to the team at SUBWAY)?
LOVED the little bags and the drinks!

What was your overall experience of the screening?
Me: I was relieved (almost) everyone turned up!
DCs: Having a morning out with Mum Grin - having a real treat and sneak preview of the film.

If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 to friends and family? Why?*
YES - great family film for half term - it's funny, colourful and ace in 3D

Thanks
