- Please give a brief, one sentence review of the film
A visually seductive, psychedelically pulsating, culturally and politically savvy, Avatar-pastiching hoot of a movie
- Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? (5 is highest and 1 is lowest)
I and DH give it 5. My DD and DS give it 5.
- What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film? Who is their favourite character and why?
I loved it all, but my very favourite thing was the inventiveness in making animal-fruit hybrids, such as Flamangoes.
DC loved it all. DS loved especially the final scenes when the robot teams are overcome. DD loved especially the background jokes, like Steve and the birthday candle. My favourite character: Manny. Their favourite character: Steve.
- What did your DCs love best about the day?
The film itself - its 3D-ness was the best we have seen to date and the story captivated them too.
- What did you/your DCs think of the SUBWAY® Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 themed Kids' Pak™ that your DC received (thanks to the team at SUBWAY)?
They loved the bag itself with its Cloudy pictures. They loved the Bear. They loved the juice, but they have become terrible snobs about food and would not eat the sub roll. They took one small bite and declared the roll far too sweet and soggy. I agree about the roll - but gobbled up the contents myself! They loved the stickers aswell.
- What was your overall experience of the screening?
It was a fabulous day - even though we had to struggle to Shepherds Bush in the pouring rain. The activities were fun - if a bit chaotic. The balloon man was excellent. The Steve balloons were so cute. Arm painting of a pickle on DD was really lovely. Posh popcorn...to die for - thank you. We got fantastic seats - the cinema was comfortable, the screen big enough to sink into it. The 3D-tech was perfect - really sharp and good - well done Vue.
The film was fun - started a little bit late, which was frustrating - but it all didn't matter in the end as we had such a good time and the atmosphere was so jolly.
- If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 to friends and family? Why?
We already have - to everyone we have seen. We seem to have loved it far more than many reviewers in the US. We thought it was so sharp and politically aware, with all sorts of adult-oriented jokes about hip capitalism, about the world of computing, about current obsessions - it was so much infinitely better than Disney/Pixar efforts. I write about film and for academic reasons have to see Frozen soon. I know I will abominate it. Cloudy 2 was better than Cloudy 1 - the family stuff was not so hokey - family became family of man (animal, fruit....). It may be because I also write about GM and about the philosophy of consciousness in animals and objects, that this really grabbed me. But it grabbed DH too and the kids.....who don't , needless to say
Anyway, have told everyone we have seen since (including a relative who was a fan of Cloudy 1) that they must see this.
Have forgotten to send pix to my work machine, so attach 1 but will send more tonight.
