This thread is for the Mumsnetters who attended one of the exclusive MN screenings of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 in London or Manchester with their DCs on Sunday 13th October. We hope you all had a great time and enjoyed the film!

"Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 picks up where Sony Pictures Animation’s mouth-watering comedy left off. Inventor Flint Lockwood thought he saved the world when he destroyed his most infamous invention - a machine that turned water into food causing cheeseburger rain and spaghetti tornadoes. But Flint soon learns that his invention survived and is now creating food-animals – "foodimals!" Flint and his friends embark on a dangerously delicious mission to battle hungry tacodiles, shrimpanzees, hippotatomuses, cheespiders and other foodimals to save the world – again!"

To find out more about the film (at cinemas from October 25 with previews 18, 19 & 20th) and watch the trailer, visit the Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 pages on Mumsnet

Below are a few questions for you to answer but please do add any other comments you may have.

We'd also love it if you could upload some pictures of your day to this thread.

Thanks so much for letting us go today, we were planning a cinema trip anyway as the weather is shocking but this was extra special!

Please give a brief, one sentence review of the film - dis says "the film is about a man that tries to wipe out all the foodimals when they're really nice"

  • Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? (5 is highest and 1 is lowest) - dh and I reckon it's worth at least 4 stars out of five, ds says 900 million. I guess that means he liked it!
  • What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film? Who is their favourite character and why? -ds's favourite part was the "piece of cake" moment and he loved the main guy Flint. Dd loved Barry the Berry.
  • What did your DCs love best about the day? Both agree the film was the best bit but they also both loved the balloon modellers who were lovely!
  • What did you/your DCs think of the SUBWAY® Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 themed Kids' Pakâ„¢ that your DC received (thanks to the team at SUBWAY)? Both liked the Capri Sun, ds loved the fruit roll ups, neither liked the sandwiches as neither like lettuce. Dh and I enjoyed them very much Grin
  • What was your overall experience of the screening? Loved the whole day, really enjoyable.
  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 to friends and family? Why? Definitely recommend it, it was really entertaining, very funny and the 3D was fantastic. The creativity that went in to all the foodimals was brilliant! Loved the whole world they'd created.

Thanks so much!!

Me: 4 stars DC 1: 5 DC2: 3( she said it was scary .... she thinks all films are scary)

The film - but the popcorn and face painting came close second
  • What did you/your DCs think of the SUBWAY® Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 themed Kids' Pakâ„¢ that your DC received (thanks to the team at SUBWAY)?
Disappointed - they wanted cheese,, turned out they got ham (eldest DC:" i don't like Subway.". But loved the fruit leather and drink.
  • What was your overall experience of the screening?
Excellent. Would have been better if I wasn't suffering my worst hangover in years. But it says a lot about the experience that I enjoyed it even in this state!
  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 to friends and family? Why?
Yes. Fun, silly film, loved the names of the foodimals, liked the themes/messages of the film, kids enjoyed it.

Thanks MNHQ, and especially the ever lovely AnnMumsnet

  • Please give a brief, one sentence review of the film

"It was most surpising, with the animals being friendly and not scary monsters."

  • Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? (5 is highest and 1 is lowest) 5 stars all round!
  • What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film? Who is their favourite character and why? DS2 - Tim, the dad, fishing with the pickles was funny. DD loved the marshmallows helping out Flint. We had fun on the way home trying to name the foodimals - tacodile, flamango, hipotato, meatballrus etc. Very clever.
  • What did your DCs love best about the day? Everything especially the movie! They were quite taken with the scale of Westfield too. The photobooth was fun, a nice souvenir.
  • What did you/your DCs think of the SUBWAY® Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 themed Kids' Pakâ„¢ that your DC received (thanks to the team at SUBWAY)? It was 'nice' - the fruit yoyos went down well.
  • What was your overall experience of the screening? Amusing, entertaining, mind-blowing. Didn't realise it was 3D, that was a nice suprise, and we all scoffed the Joe&Sephs popcorn Smile
  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 to friends and family? Why? Yes definately, there was plenty of action and wit.

  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 to friends and family? Why?
Yes, would recommend it highly - we all enjoyed it, which is not always the case with kids' movies.

Who can resist a film with characters that are 'flamangos', 'shrimpanzees', 'tacodiles' and 'hippotatoes'?
Our favourite line was "Stand back! I'm going to cut the cheese!"

gazzalw · 13/10/2013 14:37

Rated 5* from the Gazzalw Family. We all chortled heartily :-).

We were busy trying to blow Mumsnetters' cover but failed spectacularly! Lovely to meet AnnMumsnet too.

Thank you for giving us the opportunity to go and kick-start DD' s birthday celebrations.

Berry was flavour of the month for us, particularly when he was interpreting!

Thank you for the children's Subway lunch packs. Our two very much enjoyed them and loved the souvenir lunch bags so thank you.

Yes we would recommend it particularly to families with tweets. It went down very well for us.

  • What did you/your DCs think of the SUBWAY® Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 themed Kids' Pakâ„¢ that your DC received (thanks to the team at SUBWAY)?
They weren't impressed with the salad in their cheese rolls Blush but otherwise enjoyed it.

The screening was a really lovely event.
  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 to friends and family? Why?
I would recommend it for kids, but I'd warn about the subliminal McD's advertising! Photo posted above :)
PigeonStreet · 13/10/2013 14:59

We had a fabulous time at the screening.
The dcs had an amazing time from the minute we got there.
In terms of a review of the film "fun action packed funny Adventure where food comes alive" that's from Ds (9).
They both loved the funny foodimals. Dd loved Barry, Ds loved the pickles and I loved Steve.

Dd and Ds loved the subway packs. Dd has been using hers as a handbag. The ham sandwiches were demolished in seconds.

We would definitely recommend the film to others and would give it a solid 5 stars!

Thankyou so much mn for a wonderful morning.

  • Please give a brief, one sentence review of the film
A fun trip back to Swallow Falls, with lots of new faces along the way
  • Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? (5 is highest and 1 is lowest)
DD - 4/5, DP 3/5, me 4/5
  • What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film? Who is their favourite character and why?
DD- all of it! Barry Berry - cheeky & very cute DP- the bit at Live corp & also the celebration in a box that he set off over his dad. No favourite character DS- liked the foodimals & waving his 3d glasses up & down over his eyes (he's 2!) - little Flint is his favourite as he thinks its him! Me- Tim bonding with the Pickles or the marshmallows were my favourite bits and my favourite is Steve but I felt he didn't get enough screen time on his own like last time
  • What did your DCs love best about the day?
DD - all of it but mostly the film DS - the film & taking his glasses off & on - the 3d definately fascinated him
  • What did you/your DCs think of the SUBWAY® Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 themed Kids' Pakâ„¢ that your DC received (thanks to the team at SUBWAY)?
Love the bags (& thank you for letting DD swap hers!) ds liked his juice & yoyo bear thing & dd liked the sandwich but would have liked to choose her veg
  • What was your overall experience of the screening?
Really enjoyed ourselves - it was well organised with enough activities to keep children entertained & not too crammed in the cinema. We've had a really lovely time - thank you for letting us come. DD said that she likes the MN things that we go on as they always make you feel 'important'
  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 to friends
Yes - the script isn't as witty as the first one but if you have seen that then this a good follow up on what happened to Flint & friends. DD will be recommending it to her friends in school!
Thatsinteresting · 13/10/2013 15:22

'Really funny film'

Dd (5) gave the film 5 stars. She found the film funny, there were some scary parts but within what she's comfortable with. With typical 5 year old humour she liked the strawberry poo'ing jam. I like simple jokes and enjoyed the leek on the boat. My favourite character was the monkey, Steve (but that might be due to my love of Eddie Izzard), I would definitely recommend this film. It's great family viewing.

Dd really enjoyed her Subway but I think that was more because it contained an activity sheet and stickers. She did eat it all but the veggie option wasn't very exciting.

We had a great morning. Dd particularly enjoyed getting her photo taken. I felt that it could have been organised a little better, for example the cinema staff weren't aware if we got popcorn or where it was. The children didn't notice though and would gladly do it all again tomorrow.

EstoyAqui · 13/10/2013 15:37

Massive thank you from DD and I. We had a lovely day and really enjoyed meeting some other Mumsnetters.

Thank you to both Subway for the delicious food and Sony for arranging a trailer free screening. We had a super day.

Summing up the film I'd say: Fiendish food is family friendly after all.

  • I would give the film 5 of 5 as despite being a kids film there was enough to keep me laughing along. DD would also give it 5 as the characters were cute.
  • DD enjoyed when Berry was translating. She was also excited when the party in a box exploded at the end. She has been doing a mean impression of Monkey/Steve when he was electrocuted. I think it captured her imagination.
  • DD was most impressed with the green screen photo booth. She would have been having her picture taken all day were it not for the other lovely distractions.
  • DD loved the subway. She was disappointed she couldn't have olives on hers though! I thought the little bags were really cute and it was nice that the designs didn't give away the film's plot.
  • We loved the screening. It was fun and the balloon guy was amusing. The staff were really helpful and friendly with the kids. I even managed to get an extra subway to take home for my DS. Thank you again Subway.
  • I would definitely recommend the film to friends and family. It was entertaining and had me laughing out loud. I enjoyed searching for all the hidden references to other films. The 3D worked really well with the attacking food.

  • What did your DCs love best about the day?
Getting to see the movie before all their friends.
  • What did you/your DCs think of the SUBWAY® Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 themed Kids' Pakâ„¢ that your DC received (thanks to the team at SUBWAY)?
The DC are 11 & 13 so not overly impressed.

Great family fun for all ages and even better than the first Cloudy

  • Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? (5 is highest and 1 is lowest)
Both DC gave it 5 out of 5
  • What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film? Who is their favourite character and why?
DS aged 7 Favourite part of the film was when somebody said there's a leak in the boat and it was really a LEEK! Favourite character is Steve who is a very funny monkey
  • What did your DCs love best about the day?
They both liked eating popcorn and were impressed with the balloons. They haven't been to a 3D showing for quite a while and thought it was very good.
  • What did you/your DCs think of the SUBWAY® Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 themed Kids' Pakâ„¢ that your DC received (thanks to the team at SUBWAY)?
Neither DC liked the subway meal other than the drink. They wouldn't eat salad on a sandwich and didn't like the ham. Also they wanted cheese but there wasn't any.
  • What was your overall experience of the screening?
We had a wonderful morning - the activities were great and they loved their photo.
  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 to friends and family? Why?
The DC both really liked the film, I thought it was OK, not as offensive as some children's films but doesn't have the underlying adult humour which some films have.

A film that both Children and Adults can enjoy
  • Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? (5 is highest and 1 is lowest)
4*
  • What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film? Who is their favourite character and why?
DD loved any scene with the Strawberry in (this may have been because she had a balloon Strawberry and the character on her face!). I liked all the silly jokes, because I'm a big kid. There were a few scenes that my DD thought would be scary, but by the end of the scene she was loving the characters.
  • What did your DCs love best about the day?
It's hard to pick her favourite part, from the face painting to walking in to free popcorn and the 'biggest bottle of water she has ever seen', and not having any 'boring adverts' to a really fun film. It was a great day.
  • What did you/your DCs think of the SUBWAY® Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 themed Kids' Pakâ„¢ that your DC received (thanks to the team at SUBWAY?
DD asks to go to subway every single weekend, so she was made up with the free sub (so was my wallet!)
  • What was your overall experience of the screening?
Brilliant fun, especially with the balloon makers which made the small queues seem to go very quickly
  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 to friends and family? Why?
Definitely, in the same way as films like Despicable Me it isn't something for parents to endure, they can enjoy it

What a brilliant film! I would give it 5 stars and so would Ds. Ds loved the man in tue chicken suit and I liked the cheese helmet bit (chortle). Ds says the best bit after the film was the 3d glasses, his balloon strawberry and his hippo arm tattoo. The subway food was delicious. Overall it was an amazing day out and I would definitely recommend the film to friends. The 3d was amazing as was the plot. Thanks for the brilliant treat!

Please give a brief, one sentence review of the film
A fabulous film for all ages packed with fun and foodimals!

  • Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? (5 is highest and 1 is lowest) All 3 DC give it 5 stars and I would give it 4 stars.
  • What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film? Who is their favourite character and why?
Favourite character all round is Berry (the strawberry) mainly because he reminded us of DS2 who is 5 months old. The DD's favourite part was when Berry was translating and DS can't name just one favourite part he reels off several every time I ask and then just says all of it was my favourite.
  • What did your DCs love best about the day?
They all say the film was the best part of the day (I think this is mainly because they queued for ages for balloons and face painting but ended up without either because there wasn't enough time)
  • What did you/your DCs think of the SUBWAY® Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 themed Kids' Pakâ„¢ that your DC received (thanks to the team at SUBWAY)?
None of them liked the sandwich as they appeared to have forgotten to put any cheese in them, so really were just salad sandwiches. They liked the drink and fruit roll and they all love the bags they came in.
  • What was your overall experience of the screening?
We had a really lovely time watching the film and managed to get our photos taken (I will upload in a while) which I absolutely love. The DC were a little upset that they didn't get any balloon characters or get their faces painted as the queues were too long. The face painting was taking ages, we stood for 25 mins in a queue and only 2 children got painted (there were another 3 in front of us and similar queues at the other 3 face painters)). The balloons were much quicker but again we had to go into the cinema before we got to the front so missed out on everything. I did notice that some children had more than one balloon character and were queuing for a second face painting so maybe 1 of each per child can be specified for future events. We were 10 mins late because we couldn't find the cinema so maybe that 10 mins made all the difference? All the staff were amazingly friendly and helpful.
  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 to friends and family? Why?
Yes and I already have. It's a great film especially in 3D, the children loved it and I was amazed at some of the graphics and well thought out mixes of food and animals.

Colourful and imaginative fun film, suitable for all the family.
  • Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? (5 is highest and 1 is lowest)
I'd give it 3, DD said 5.
  • What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film? Who is their favourite character and why?
My favourite bit was the greedy gherkins looking for sardines and learning to fish. Dd loved all the different foodimals, they were so creative and colourful.
  • What did your DCs love best about the day?
We arrived a bit late so she only had chance to have her face painted. She really liked that though and the face painter was amazing!
  • What did you/your DCs think of the SUBWAY® Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 themed Kids' Pakâ„¢ that your DC received (thanks to the team at SUBWAY)?
She really enjoyed it and I would definitely take her to subway for a kids meal. Much healthier than most high street food places. She didn't eat the strawberry yoyo thing due to an allergy but I did. It was horrible and rubbery.
  • What was your overall experience of the screening?
It was lots of fun
  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 to friends and family? Why?
Yes I would. It certainly kept my Dd entertained! I would recommend they ate well before going, my tummy was rumbling watching the foodimals.
