This thread is for the Mumsnetters who attended one of the exclusive MN screenings of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 in London or Manchester with their DCs on Sunday 13th October. We hope you all had a great time and enjoyed the film!

"Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 picks up where Sony Pictures Animation’s mouth-watering comedy left off. Inventor Flint Lockwood thought he saved the world when he destroyed his most infamous invention - a machine that turned water into food causing cheeseburger rain and spaghetti tornadoes. But Flint soon learns that his invention survived and is now creating food-animals – "foodimals!" Flint and his friends embark on a dangerously delicious mission to battle hungry tacodiles, shrimpanzees, hippotatomuses, cheespiders and other foodimals to save the world – again!"

To find out more about the film (at cinemas from October 25 with previews 18, 19 & 20th) and watch the trailer, visit the Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 pages on Mumsnet

Below are a few questions for you to answer but please do add any other comments you may have.

We'd also love it if you could upload some pictures of your day to this thread.

Thanks for a fab morning - we had so much fun!
To sum up the film in one sentence - action packed fun!
We would all give it 4/5
DD loved Berry the best and her favourite part was when he was running away with the USB stick.
Dh and I both liked Steve best.
DD not keen on salad or cheese, but DH said her Subway pack was delicious! She liked the drink and sticker.
DD loved getting a balloon monkey - but just to echo an earlier poster, there did seem to be kids with 2 or 3 balloon animals each, who were still hanging round the balloon artist, while other, quieter kids didn't get one at all. Perhaps a clear, 'one balloon each, then let others to the front' policy might be good?
DD's favourite part of the day was the movie - her first experience of 3d!
I would definitely recommend the movie to family and friends.
Thanks again, it was great!

DD and I had a wonderful morning at Westfield Shepherd's Bush, thanks so much MN Smile

Please give a brief, one sentence review of the film
'A funny film about food, friendship and inventing' - DD

Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? (5 is highest and 1 is lowest)
DD says, '4 stars', I'll give it 4 also ( always room for improvement!!)

DD 'liked it when Barry and Steve saved the day'. Her favourite character is Steve because, 'he's very funny and has a good sense of humour!'

DD loved having her arm painted by the face painter, who was amazing, as was the balloon lady who made DD a Steve the Monkey.

DD liked the Subway (but not enough to finish it!), because 'it included salad which Is healthy'. She didn't like the Capri sun so much so was grateful for the water when we got to our seats. The bag came in handy for carrying all her bits and pieces. I really enjoyed the posh popcorn!

The overall experience was great, DD was lucky in that she didn't have to wait too long for face painting, balloon animals or getting her picture taken. Arriving early is obviously advantageous. The film was amusing enough for adults aswell as children and I enjoyed the overall message of friendship and co-operation. Will definitely recommend the film to friends and family.

Thanks again MN!

fuzzpig · 13/10/2013 18:01

Only just got back as we stayed in Westfield for a while after the movie. So too tired to do proper feedback tonight, but just wanted to say thanks, we had a fab time and loved the movie :)

Please give a brief, one sentence review of the film

Fantastic fun-filled family fayre.

Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? (5 is highest and 1 is lowest)

DS1 5/5
DS2 5/5
Parents 5/5

What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film? Who is their favourite character and why?

Our favourite character was Flint's Dad, we enjoyed the fishing trip with the Pickles!

What did your DCs love best about the day?

The DC really enjoyed the film more than anything. The 3-D presentation of film really held their attention for the entire film. Which is no mean feat.

What did you/your DCs think of the SUBWAY® Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 themed Kids' Pak™ that your DC received (thanks to the team at SUBWAY)?

Thanks for the pack, the colouring and stickers went down a storm. Unfortunately when we opened the sandwiches they weren't cheese as specified so the DC wouldn't eat them. The drink and fruit roll did go down well.

What was your overall experience of the screening?

Two incredibly happy children, therefore two incredibly happy parents. Thanks Mumsnet!

If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 to friends and family? Why?

Yes, we would highly recommend the film simply because it's the best children's film we've seen this year by far!

Mominatrix · 13/10/2013 18:05

First, I just wanted to thank Mumsnet Towers for picking us to attend this event. It was extremely well organized, packed full of fun, and enjoyed by all - and all this before the film even started.

  • The Mominatrix family gives this film an enthusiastic 3 thumbs up. It was imaginative and funny film with a lovely message about friendship and loyalty which could be enjoyed by all age groups.
  • I'd give the film a 4 out of 5.
  • DC favourite character was Barry because he was funny, cute, engaging, and he like the interaction he had with Sam. His favourite part of the film was when the inventor's father was teaching the pickles how to fish. Other DC's favourite character was Steve because he was very funny, and he likes monkeys. His favourite part of the film was when Barry turned into an Enforcer.
  • One DS's favourite bit of the day was the film, and the other DS couldn't decide between the film and the amazing balloon art.
  • Both children really liked their lunch packs, and finished everything which was inside.
  • My overall experience of the event was extremely positive, and the only complaint I had was that it would have been nice to have an additional face painter.
  • I definitely will reccommend the film to friends. It is original, funny, engaging, and lovely film for all the family to enjoy.

Wow... we've just got home as we took advantage of being nearby & whizzed up to town too... Have an exhausted DD who had 'just the best' day. Thank you so much for choosing us to come along - the balloon modellers / picture guys / face painters and givers of coffee were all just wonderful. We have only been to the Westfield Centre once before but will definitely go again.

Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? 5/5 from me - 4/5 from DH

How many would your DC give it? 5/5

What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film? She liked the bit where Sam Sparks makes friends with the Cheese spider. DH & I liked the brown crayon bit Grin

Who is their favourite character and why. Sam Sparks is DD favourite (along with Steve - who doesn't love Steve?).

What did your DCs love best about the day? She loved having her picture taken (and going to Harrods - but that isn't really relevant is it?).

What did you/your DCs think of the SUBWAY® Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 themed Kids' Pak™ that your DC received (thanks to the team at SUBWAY)? She loved the pack - enjoyed all of it apart from the tomato in the sandwich..

  • What was your overall experience of the screening? Wonderful, really well organised, the popcorn was lush, comfy seats & no adverts!!
  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 to friends and family? Why? Definitely, it's a wonderful family film - the recap at the beginning is useful if you haven't seen the 1st one. I would recommend you stay through the credits too :-)

Just one disappointment - we didn't get an activity pack&mini poster - but that is just the smallest blip on a massively fabulous morning. Thank-you again.

Firstly, a HUGE thanks to everyone for an amazing day!

  • Please give a brief, one sentence review of the film

The food turns into animals...yummy!

  • Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? (5 is highest and 1 is lowest)

My husband and I give it 5 and the kids gave it 5 too!

  • What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film? Who is their favourite character and why?

My eldest (6 years) loved the scream when they found Barry the Strawberry...he was keen to re-enact it!! His favourite character is the Burger Spider because he can make cheese webs.

My youngest (2 years) was in love with Barry the Strawberry...any scene with him in she loved. When I asked her, she said "he is very cute"!

  • What did your DCs love best about the day?

My son said the best part of the day was the film itself, my daughter loved the balloon monkey she was given!

  • What did you/your DCs think of the SUBWAY® Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 themed Kids' Pakâ„¢ that your DC received (thanks to the team at SUBWAY)?

It was a lovely surprise for them. We eat Subway a lot as a family when we are out, so the kids were a bit disappointed that they couldn't choose their own salad. It is a nice change to other well known fast food, and the kids bags are great. My daughter has a number of sandwich handbags! Would have been nice to have some adult subs too ;-)

  • What was your overall experience of the screening?

Excellent. My husband is visually impaired and the staff were able to arrange seating that would suit him. It was great to have the popcorn and drink ready in our seats...delicious popcorn too! Also, the kids enjoyed the fact that the movie started straight away, no adverts.

  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 to friends and family? Why?

Absolutely, great film, with some hilarious moments! It also provided some great conversation in the car on the way home about friendship. My son has said that he is going to school tomorrow to tell everybody to watch it.

Thank you so much - both of my DS's really enjoyed the day.

Imaginative family movie with lots of lovable characters and humour.

I gave it 4 out of 5. My 5 and 6 year old DSs really enjoyed it and both say it was 5 out of 5.

My 5 year old DS's favourite character was Steve the Monkey because he is funny.

My 6 year old DSs favourite character was Barry the Strawberry because he a tiny hero who stole a robot suit. His close second favourite were the pickles because they were a bit naughty.

Both of my DS's enjoyed all of the activities but say their favourite part was watching the film.

They also enjoyed the subway pak. Particularly the bag and sticker.

The screening was well organised but nice and relaxed. Everyone working their was lovely and welcoming , particularly with my shy 5 year old. It was a lovely Sunday morning treat. We went to play factore afterwards, but they say their best treat of the day was definitely the screening.

I will definitely recommend Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 to all of my friends with young children as my boys absolutely loved it.

JustOneMoreBite · 13/10/2013 18:57

DD1 and I also had a lot of fun today! Thanks so much to Mumsnet and Sony.

One sentence review: Funny and fun!

My rating: 4, DD's rating: 5

Her favourite character was Barry the berry, and we both loved the bit where Barry translated Flint's speech to the foodimals.

Favourite bit of the day was getting to our seats, looking through all the goodies and trying on our 3D glasses. This was the first time either of us had been to a 3D film, so it was pretty exciting. I wasn't sure if DD would cope with the glasses and the effects, but she really enjoyed it all the way through.

She loved the subway bag. Didn't eat much of the sandwich, though - I think all the lettuce put her off it.

Overall experience was really good. She was a bit disappointed that she didn't actually get to take part in any of the activities. We started queuing for face painting as soon as we arrived but didn't quite get to the front before we had to go into the screening. Was partly my fault as we missed our train and arrived a bit late.

Would definitely recommend the film - good entertainment for everyone.

Had a fabulous time today. Lovely to catch up with ohforfoxsake again and to meet marsybum who it transpires lives about 5 minutes from me! We will need to meet up some time Smile

  • Please give a brief, one sentence review of the film

Food on the rampage isn't as nasty as we are led to believe

  • Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? (5 is highest and 1 is lowest)

I would give it 4.5, on the basis that Live Corp appeared to have stolen one of Flynn's inventions (the frozen spray thing) yet there wasn't any mention of this/challenge of it (or if there was I missed it!)

DS1 says 4.5 and DS2 says 5

  • What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film? Who is their favourite character and why?

Mine when the bananostrich lay down so that one of the bad guys could slip on it; I think I let out the loudest chuckle Blush
DS1 the escape scene after the foodimals had been let out
DS2 the tacodile scene

  • What did your DCs love best about the day?

The film, though DS2 liked getting the ballons made; he got a Barry and is planning on cuddling him on bed tonight!

  • What did you/your DCs think of the SUBWAY® Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 themed Kids' Pakâ„¢ that your DC received (thanks to the team at SUBWAY)?

I thought the bags were great, and there was a nice healthy meal inside, though I have had a kids meal in subway before but there was no merchandising inspite of the posters/advertising in the shop much to DCs disappointment; they do love their plastic tat!
DS1 wasn't impressded with the contents, but he is 11 and impossible to please, so I wouldn't be overly worried about that if I were subway!
DS2 had finished everything before we even went in to the theatre...says it all really!

  • What was your overall experience of the screening?

The queues were a bit long, but we waited till they had cleared and didn't need to wait at all for the photobooth or balloon modelling. Face painting was busiest, so we just didn't bother. If Dd had been with us, we would have had to wait! Even though we were one of the last groups into the cinema there was still quite a wait before it started and my youngest got a bit bored at that; but it was straight into the film, no adverts which was good! the photo thing was clever; the photo is a good memento of the day.

  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 to friends and family? Why?

Yes, definitely; it's a really good all round family film, colourful and witty with something for everyone and jokes that work on several levels.

Altogether a brilliant trip out Smile

LackaDAISYcal · 13/10/2013 19:16

Oh, the only downside was the tea and coffee, or rather the lack of! We were pointed in the direction of a nearby concession, but there was no-one there...just a stack of empty cups and jugs.

smileyhappymummy · 13/10/2013 19:23

A one sentence review of the film
"I thought it was really fun and I loved all the food monsters especially Barry" - dd6
She gave it 28 stars out of 5, we thought 4 out of 5.
Her favourite scene was where the baby marshmallows are made and Barry was her favourite character. We loved all the silly puns like the leek in the boat, also loved the car that ran on cute! If only!
Best bit was the film itself but we did love the face painting and balloon animals and the photo booth.
The subway bag was a big hit but tbh dd1 didnt love the sub itself - doesnt like meat in sandwiches though so thats just her.
Everyone was so friendly and nice - we had tickets for 3 of us but our babysitter for dd2 who is just 1 was poorly so didn't think I'd be able to go into the film with dh and dd1 but the lovely mumsnet lady arranged for me to have her on my knee. She loved it too - clapped when the movie started, thought the 3d glasses were hilarious and then peacefully fed herself to sleep -result!
I'd recommend the film to anyone, child or adult without hesitation, funny, inventive and no really scary bits.
Thank you mumsnet!

DD1 (7yrs) gave the film 1055/5. Which I believe means she liked it. Her favourite character was the Tacodile Supreme and she liked the screaming leek in the boat.

DS (5yrs) gave the film 5/5. Which I belive means he understood the question.
DD2 is asleep. DS loved the cheese spider which is why his favourite bit was when the guy got eaten.

DS2 (3yrs) enjoyed it, although I think she found the darknesss before the film started a little scary. Being 3 she's a little noncommital about numbers.

They all loved the balloon animals and face painting. And although they didn't want their picture taken initially they were very impressed with the final 'movie poster' they got.

The film was great, plenty in there to amuse adults as well as kids of all ages.

The Subway packs got a mixed reception. The crayons and poster were enjoyed by all three, but the sandwichs were picked over and they didn't like the fruit treats at all. The drinks were fine but they struggled with the straws. Perhaps if we'd been buying the bags and so had a choice of sandwich filling and treats they'd have been enjoyed a bit more.

I'd recommend the film as good family entertainment.

Moldingsunbeams So glad it wasn't just me Grin Sorry DD got into trouble, if it makes you feel any better I had to have a talk with the dc about being grateful for getting a ticket at all when there are lots of people who didn't get picked to go.

I suppose life must feel really hard when you are little and you see other children all around you with faces and arms painted and several balloon models, whilst you have nothing Sad However, I hadn't realised the movie was in 3D and had told the DC it wasn't so when they got handed their glasses they were over the moon Grin

All in all it was an fantastic day and we shall be applying again whenever MN does the next one and hopefully we will get picked for that one too Grin

ChocolateMama · 13/10/2013 20:49

Thank you thank you thank you Mumsnet Towers and Sony for a really rather fabulous event!!!

- Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? (5is highest and 1 is lowest)

Five stars all the way in our family - we loved it.

- What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film? Who is their favourite character and why?

Haha, the children loved the 'skidpants' bit, and we loved the wonderful ending (won't give it away for those who want to go and see it...Wink

The familys favourite character was Flint - he was pretty cool.

- What did your DCs love best about the day?
My children loved everything about the day - and actually said that only Christmas day could top it!!! Some praise indeed. They loved the monkey balloons that the clever balloon artists made for them. The Subway bags were fantatic. They ate everything, and when they got home were able to use the suprisingly strong bags that the food came in to store their lego.

They had their Smokey pictures taken, as we got their quite early and the queues were not too long.

- What did you/your DCs think of the SUBWAY® Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 themed Kids' Pak™ that your DC received (thanks to the team at SUBWAY)?

Oop, answered above. The loved it. Preferred it to the McDonalds equivalent (and I did too - we have never had a children's meal bag from Subway but will definitely do so in future). The bags that the meal came in are great for storing bits and pieces and really colourful and attractive.

- What was your overall experience of the screening?
Fantastic, and as I said above, it could only be bettered by Christmas according to the children.

- If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 to friends and family? Why?

Definitely recommend it. It was a great film that all the family can enjoy together. There was something to keep all ages amused - which is pretty hard to achieve.

KeemaNaanAndCurryOn · 13/10/2013 20:55

  • Please give a brief, one sentence review of the film.

Jurassic Park meets Fast Food on fast forward.

  • Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? (5 is highest and 1 is lowest)

DS and DD said 5. DH 3 and I said 4. I actually thought it was better than the original film. I loved the fact that it was really original.

  • What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film? Who is their favourite character and why?

DS loved the Tacodile and did his impression of it for the rest of the day (although without the spitting out of food thank goodness). DD loved the strawberry. I loved Flint's Dad and the gherkins going fishing. DH thought the mosquitoasts were inspired.

  • What did your DCs love best about the day?

Both enjoyed the film the best. DD liked the strawberry 'tattoo' she got on her arm, and howled when we had to wash it off at bath time.

  • What did you/your DCs think of the SUBWAY® Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 themed Kids' Pakâ„¢ that your DC received (thanks to the team at SUBWAY)?

They both really loved the packs, although DS being a fussy so and so didn't like the sandwich. DD ate them both Grin

  • What was your overall experience of the screening?

Very good. Only complaint was that we were pointed towards coffee, but there was no one there when we went to get it. Thankfully we had a Costa to hand (it had been an early start to get there!)

  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 to friends and family? Why?

Yes. The film was funny and imaginative and had enough humour to keep the adults interested and make the children laugh. Both mini Naans who are 4 years apart enjoyed it and it kept them interested all the way through.

orangeplum · 13/10/2013 21:13

Thank you very much for selecting us to attend the preview. We all loved it. DC says it was a fab film with lots of action that made me laugh out loud!

I would rate it 5/5 and my DC would give it 10 stars out of 5 if allowed.

DCa favourite bit of the film was when the cheeseburger spider jumped out and scared the characters, especially Brent, their favourite character was Chester V as he was a bit nutty!

The best part of the day was the movie, the photo booth and the balloon modeller. The photos are a great souvenir of a special day out. Thanks!

My DCs liked the Subway pack and the bags they came in. They weren't so keen on the lettuce though!

Our overall impression of the screening was great so a big thanks to both Mumsnet and Sony.

We would definitely recommend the film as it was enjoyable for both kids and adults and my DCs are off to tell their friends at school about it in the morning.

Thanks again for a great morning.

Finally have got the chance to post after returning home and finishing off about a billion pieces of homework with the DDs...

Thanks to all at MN and Sony for a lovely event.

  • Please give a brief, one sentence review of the film.
Sequel film, well produced, great animation and memorable characters and storyline.
  • Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? (5 is highest and 1 is lowest)
DD1 11 - 4 DD2 9 - 4 DH - 3.5 said he wasnt sure about it but enjoyed the subtle jokes. Me - 4 liked the references to other films e.g Jurassic Park
  • What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film? Who is their favourite character and why?

DD1 and I liked the vegetables especially the cucumbers and the leek... really clever names.
DD2 liked Steve... really appeals to her sense of humour.
DH liked Flint's Dad (especially the fishing scenes with the cucumbers!)

  • What did your DCs love best about the day?

DDs loved being part of a "special" screening and the freedom to wander in the little private area and the extra activities like the amazing face painters...

  • What did you/your DCs think of the SUBWAY® Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 themed Kids' Pakâ„¢ that your DC received (thanks to the team at SUBWAY)?

They both really loved the packs, but DD1 wasnt impressed with the "plastic cheese"! fussy wotsit DH enjoyed it though Grin. Useful bags for days out as well.

  • What was your overall experience of the screening?

Very good. A great and special way to spend a dreary Sunday with the family. Really well organised and lots of time to chill before the film and fun stuff for the DDs to do surrounded by lots of other DCs and their families. Lovely touches like the special popcorn, bottomless coffee and super event staff.

  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 to friends and family? Why?

Yes. A decent sequel with a good story and some really clever touches. A good underlying message about friendship and eco issues as well. Subtle humour throughout.
