So got my decison
My daughters awaiting assessments on adhd autism she's 13 she's struggling to understand school and is behind on everything other then hands on things she's very blank has no or to much emotion she hasn't been awarded she's going through swan which is student with additional needs at school and is also on the sen register at school she's sensory with food aswell please does anyone have advice as also they've not awarded her because she's had no doctors involvement but she has and we also have a team called early help involved with her x

Definitely appeal! They look for reasons not to award. The first step is to ask for a mandatory reconsideration and if that, too is declined then you appeal.

The appeal is much fairer because it’s an independent panel consisting of at least one doctor.

I had to appeal for my dd (who is now 16). It was overturned by the tribunal to middle rate care and lower mobility.

You’ll get back-pay to the start date of your claim if successful.

Checked my tracking for forms and it's been delivered how long after will I get a confirmation saying they have them?

I received a letter in the post about 5 weeks after I sent the claim in.

It was all based on no evidence and she can get up in the mornings so really don't understand what that had to do with what I put about my daughter. I've got to wait for the letter to appeal or do I appeal before xxx

When you receive the decision, ask for a MR right away and look at all the points that they have made as to why they have not made the award and you can argue for why these should be changed in the MR (one by one).

Does anybody know how long it takes UC to backdate i got the letter on my journal today agreeing they will backdate but not an amount, does anybody know the time it takes after this to actually receive it? Thanks x

I asked on 9th may and just had notification to say be in by 20th may

Foreverlearning88 · 16/05/2025 15:29

I've applied for carers allowance but when I filled in the UC info it said do you claim carers allowance, I put no. Its a new dla claim so it was the first time changing everything on uc and carers allowance. I put no coz i don't get it yet..... anyway....uc have said about the backpayment of carers element and disabled child will be paid by 20th may so how will it work when I receive the carers allowance back pay, will I owe all that to UC?

You need to write on your journal and say that you have applied for carers allowance on such date and have asked them to backdate it to the beginning of the award. Have you had confirmation of carers allowance because they are usually quicker than uc. What happens is you usually get the back date for carers allowance through them and then uc will change all your previous awards including the carers and disability element and have the carers allowance as a wage for you and then backdate you the difference so there is no over payment.

Foreverlearning88 · 16/05/2025 16:15

No haven't heard anything else from carers allowance but uc have said will be next week, expected it to be a much longer wait. I only told them of it on 9th and they put on journal about it today so I'm assuming I'll be getting the UC backdate much before the carers allowance which is why I'm confused what will happen if the carers allwance goes in after UC which seems to be whats going to happen

When I applied for carers allowance I told them on my journal and they asked for me to let them know once carers allowance has confirmed it. When you do receive carers allowance and they update that on your past awards it will show arrears, they might let you pay it off abit at a time or you could just pay it back with the carers allowance backdated money?

Judgejudysno1fan · 16/05/2025 16:30

Would one also get backdated :
Disabled child element
Carers element
And carers allowance
All on UC.

I'm going to be my daughters full time carer due to her disease/health condition..so wondered if that also happens and how long it takes for us to process after DLA gets sorted out??..many thanks and congrats to the awards this week. Its like a weight if the shoulders after a long wait. 🎉

Thanks! I'll keep it separate and deal with uc when it comes to it!! Appreciate your help!!

Hi, I’ve just seen your other post, renewals seem to be being done the week before it’s due to run out. Although some renewals seems to be getting through a lot quicker, I have a feeling these are renewals that have been on Dla for many years and are on the highest rates. Just a theory though from what I’ve seen.

Hii!! My renewal date is 09/06 I phoned up on Wednesday and it still wasn't with a dm, they said it'll be done just before end date! Hopefully we hear something soon though, there's a few of us with dates around the same week!
Good luck!

candywoo · 16/05/2025 21:57

Renewal date 16/05 done on the 09/05 and finally got the letter today. Same rates for 2 years. Happy with that but I thought he would have got a longer award this time, I think it’s his age.

I was awarded DLA for my son in April til 2026, just had him accepted by cahms - should I save this as evidence for renewal, or send it in now?
