DLA WAIT TIMES THREAD 63

1000 replies

zoeybrooks45 · 22/01/2025 21:02

Please feel free to add your scan date and whether it's a new claim/mandatory reconsideration/change of circumstances or renewal.
New claims (NC) - people are being told the wait time has increased to 25 weeks! I would say most are done before this though around the 20 week mark?
Mandatory reconsideration (MC) and Change of circumstances (COC) is around 20-25 weeks.
Renewals tend to be between 15-20 weeks.
If you disagree with the outcome of an MR you can appeal and go to court (tribunal)
Scan date is the date DLA scan your application forms on to their system, if you downloaded your application forms then this will be from when your award will be backdated from. If you called up for forms then the date on those is the date yours will be backdated from.
If successful and claiming universal credit (UC) please update them as this will entitle you to disabled child element adding extra to your award.

Hi, I received my son's award letter in the post today and have reported the change on my universal credit account. What do I write in my journal now to request the back pay and for the carers element to be added and backdated?

MyProperTea · 01/02/2025 14:17

Hi, I posted my daughter’s forms on 5.1.25 to the Free post address. I haven’t heard anything since. I was wondering, at what point do I need to resend them because they’ve probably got lost? Is there another address I could send them to that will allow me to do tracked postage?

MyProperTea · 01/02/2025 14:18

Also thank you very much in advance. I’m finding this whole process very difficult to navigate, probably because of my own disabilities.

Princess23 · 01/02/2025 15:05

Hi I didn't receive a letter to say they had received it till 4 or 5 weeks after I sent it I wouldn't worry to much about it being lost I would phone them on Monday morning to see if they have received them hun just for piece of mind x

Rlb123 · 01/02/2025 15:15

Wondering if someone can help me. I sent a claim form in December scan date 20/12. I wasn’t expecting to hear back until June time. We’ve got a letter this afternoon stating we aren’t entitled to anything. Have we done something wrong for it to come back so quickly? I don’t understand why people wait for months…

That's odd, could you upload the letter (minus any identifying details of course) I know they send two out usually one to acknowledge receipt and give you the scan date and then one to say sorry it's taking us a while letter?

PositivityRipples · 01/02/2025 17:28

@Rlb123 That isn't out of the ordinary but it does only happen in a small minority of cases.. What disability does your child have? And what evidence did you send?

Stitch2023 · 01/02/2025 17:44

sd 12/09 received a letter asking for more information but asked who i am to child and what ethnic I am? If moved from Scotland to England or wales and if move county to Great Britain. Surely if it’s a decline they wouldn’t need to know that information just trying to be hopeful

Did you get a text or an email? I provided my phone number and email address, but I haven’t heard on either of those either.

Rlb123 · 01/02/2025 18:39

@PositivityRipples

my son has a condition called Becker Muscular Dystrophy, I sent his consultant letter along with his physio letters about his daily physio treatments. I literally was only holding out for the lowest payment, and I really thought we’d get it as we spend over an hour a day doing his physio exercises as well as constant supervision for his consistent falls. I don’t know because surely we’re eligible 🤦‍♀️ I am going to contest it but worrying that we filled something out terribly or something for it to be such a quick turn around.

PositivityRipples · 01/02/2025 19:10

@Rlb123 That's strange because Becker Muscular Dystrophy (BMD) is a genetic condition isn't it and due to its progressive muscle weakness, which significantly impacts daily living it's also a recognized disability that would likely meet the criteria for Dla, did the letter state reasons why the child was declined? also I'm guessing the consultant letter stated the diagnosis and proof of daily physio letter should also have supported the claim.. Did you fill in all questions and write notes yourself on how the child's condition affects daily living and how much care you give to the child and about how the child presents when it comes to the physical getting around side. How old is the child?
Since it's only been about a month since your NC scan date i would put in for MR immediately the only positive is you haven't waited 25 weeks for a decline and then had to do the MR but it would be interesting to know their reasons for declining, sounds like the case manager who was preparing the case for the DM has declined which only usually happens if there's no evidence at all from any professional or you haven't listed any extra care needs at all ( except physio)

@zoeybrooks45 have you had a rough timescale on how long tribunal appointments are taking x x

This is really strange because it's very unlikely a DM has even seen it yet.
Did you feel the form out completely? No missing sections?

Keepitup88 · 02/02/2025 11:39

That is strange - is the letter from DLA specifically as with a scan date like yours I would be thinking you wouldn’t here weather yes or no till at least April!

I’m 23/09 according to lady on the phone last week it’s been with a decision maker since Tuesday last week. I had to call on Friday as i wanted to check bank details and the man said ahh I can see the decision maker has made a note saying that they have tried to contact the school. I have a feeling that this might hold things up a bit. I have the email of the SENCO so I will probably phone Monday to give it to them as they would be a lot better trying to contact via email.

You,d think they would request the SENCO,s email address on the form,it's crazy in this day & age.My Sons SENCO did write in his form about his struggles and also that he is on the SEND register, and his teacher from last year also wrote in the someone who knows the child bit.Hope that's enough Information that they need from school.

My eldest gets DLA and as far as I know school never contacted them. I sent a letter that the school had written (had only this for my eldest too) I wonder if they just need more info. I do think my youngest who I am applying for now is a lot more borderline . He massively masked at school though and I’m now pretty sure that he probably won’t be awarded especially if they speak to school!

This is the first time I put in a claim for my Son.I could have done this a while back but didn't know he didn't need a diagnosis. He is on the waiting list for ADHD assessment with CAMHS.
The school have been really supportive with the form though,so I do have that to be thankful for and it was them that put in the referral.
