DLA WAIT TIMES THREAD 63

1000 replies

zoeybrooks45 · 22/01/2025 21:02

Please feel free to add your scan date and whether it's a new claim/mandatory reconsideration/change of circumstances or renewal.
New claims (NC) - people are being told the wait time has increased to 25 weeks! I would say most are done before this though around the 20 week mark?
Mandatory reconsideration (MC) and Change of circumstances (COC) is around 20-25 weeks.
Renewals tend to be between 15-20 weeks.
If you disagree with the outcome of an MR you can appeal and go to court (tribunal)
Scan date is the date DLA scan your application forms on to their system, if you downloaded your application forms then this will be from when your award will be backdated from. If you called up for forms then the date on those is the date yours will be backdated from.
If successful and claiming universal credit (UC) please update them as this will entitle you to disabled child element adding extra to your award.

Just got off the phone decision was made on my MR 20/08 after waiting since the April for COC when they decided award will not be changed.

1st scan date 29/05
2nd decision 20/08 keep award the same MRC
3rd decision MR award increased to HRC but declined HRM

I am actually very annoyed with the outcome as I have all the evidence which covers HRM, paediatrician report stating behavioural problems and no sense of decision use of restraints etc. the lady on the phone stated because it was recieved yesterday it wasn’t looked at. And it will now be looked at as late evidence as it could change claim. She also stated that I would have to do a MR again as award was changed so I can’t go straight to tribrunal to appeal. The lady stated I should give a two weeks to see if decison is overturned agian. I really can’t see myself waiting another 6months for MR. I will do it though but when the evidence states everything why do we have to appeal so much times. Very frustrating. @Mumabear13 have you started appeal process?

Aww gutted for you did they say when the decision was made? I’ve not called yet

PositivityRipples · 29/01/2025 09:49

@zoeybrooks45 congratulations on the HRC overturn, hopefully they give the claim back to the DM now and ask them to look at the late evidence for HRM and it's done within the next few weeks, fingers crossed for you

Correct me if I'm wrong . I'm on dla Facebook groups and I've seen so many messages from people who have now been accepted for dla for their children but all they seem to care about is the benefit cap being lifted and backpack of everything? I'm not being funny but that's the last thing I would be thinking about almost as if they have made the claim just to get out the benefit cap!! Some people have got quite nasty on the groups when people have said no its for your children and not your benefit! I can understand the financial difficulty everyone is in myself included ( I've recently split with my partner of nearly 19 years (8 children later) and I currently care day and night for my daughter with anorerxia nervosa but the benefit cap and backpay is just the bonus of it if you will.

To be honest even DLA is about money, money needed to help cover the additional costs that having a disability creates. However, for some DLA is very small in comparison to the financial doors it can open. Especially if you’re renting in expensive areas such as London. The benefit cap contributes to poverty even before you consider the cost of the disability. Many may be struggling to stay afloat with mounting dept. The lifting of the cap and back payment can really help lift the weight of the world of those drowning. It’s not even like they can look for work to increase their income because they’ll be push to find child care. So they’re stuck! If you’ve debt collectors knocking I would be surprised if you weren’t bothered about the thousands you are owed to be honest. But even if you’re financially comfortable, a lump sum could do big things like create a sensory room or buy purpose built wheelchairs that change lives which the NHS just don’t cover.

Those who are claiming DLA without need just to remove the cap are committing fraud and should not be confused with genuine cases.

I’ve tried 3 times to get through today that music would put your head away! Currently now 23 weeks waiting for COC SD 19th August. I’m in Northern Ireland. I’d just love to know what date they’re up to with claims but when I rung before Xmas they just said there was a backlog and couldn’t give me even an estimate for waiting time 🙄

Daisy4877 · 29/01/2025 11:08

I'm not being judgy atall infact if it comes across that way I apologise. I wasn't the only one who noticed thankfully. Anyway update finally NC SD 26/09 with DM today. Sent evidence in Monday they recieved yesterday and it's scanned on my file so hopefully hear something next few days.

Your right . I've been there I private rent my property I'm exempt from the benefit cap now due to my ex partner leaving but even when he Was still around it was a struggle as working doesn't really pay anymore! Housing benefit went down because tax credits award extra except we ended up having to pay double the rent! We had it looked at twice and all was above board. Got to the point we were having to borrow money weekly just so me and my ex could eat! And that was all due to getting DLA for our daughter before hand it wasn't as bad . And again if I came across judgy I apologise. Sadly where I live it's just as bad as online alot of people find any way to get something for free which is so hard to grasp when you have literally had nothing but done the right thing honestly the things I've heard while down my shops is awful!

Rang up the other day hasnt been completed yet whatever that means was told maybe feb start of march for a decision nc sd 29/10

s39 · 29/01/2025 11:56

Still sending out the incorrect letters did a MR on 22/1 received a letter today saying it’s a 11 week wait… 🙄

PositivityRipples · 29/01/2025 12:29

@Daisy4877 Did your partner leave just so you could get out the benefit cap? 🤔 Its crazy you feel that all "others care about is getting out of the benefit cap and that's the last thing you would be thinking about" when you've got out of it yourself and are exempt from it. The mind boggles. Good luck with your claim hopefully you hear something soon 👏

@Daisy4877 Touché.. My comment to you was sarcasm incase you didn't catch it. " just planning on spending all your money aren't you" what money is that you speak of? I have 5 children, I work 70 hours a week for HMRC i over see some of the dwp benefits in my job role, my children's father is a Decision maker for dla 😁 but yes I've put a claim in for dla for one of my children ( he's 13) i should have done it along time ago.. Do you know why i put the claim in cause I'm entitled to it 👏 I don't need to worry about benefit caps because I'm not entitled to UC, you see you came over here sideways from Facebook, with judgey negativity and gossip and needing someone to agree with you, they say don't judge thy neighbour, this is a safe space on this forum we are all here to keep others informed, share information, give updates be supportive and nice and kind and hopefully alieviate the anxiety some parents feel with claiming for a child as the process is daunting, I'm sorry you feel the need to make people feel bad for just claiming and chasing what they are entitled to but we don't do that over here 😁 p.s I don't need to go and care for my child he's at the childminders as he's been taken out of mainstream school awaiting a sen setting I'm sure the child minder is looking after him since I pay her £50 a day to do so.. Did you have any questions regarding dla I'd be happy to help?

B2B25 · 29/01/2025 13:05

Received my backpay today! Going to treat DD. Will have to be something in the house though. I was going to try and take her away for a night but she will not go for that.

I've let UC know so now it's another waiting game for them though I'm hoping they're quicker than 20 weeks! 🤣

Brilliant news, can I ask how long from a decision was your back pay in your account. I've been told my decision should be made by this Friday but wondering about back pay details

Emmz06 · 29/01/2025 13:12

Hi
NC SD 04/10
rang for an update and was told it has been assigned to a case worker? Does anyone know if this is close to being completed?

oliviaxxx · 29/01/2025 13:13

Can anyone help me.

Rang for COC forms middle of November. Going to send them off tomorrow! It doesn't have a deadline date on for return.

If awarded a different rate, would it be backdated to the date I rang or the date they received the forms?
Does anyone know?

Any help appreciated. Up for renewal later this year but hoping the coc will process first and the award length is increased so the renewal won't be necessary, fingers crossed.
