DLA WAIT TIMES THREAD 63

1000 replies

zoeybrooks45 · 22/01/2025 21:02

Please feel free to add your scan date and whether it's a new claim/mandatory reconsideration/change of circumstances or renewal.
New claims (NC) - people are being told the wait time has increased to 25 weeks! I would say most are done before this though around the 20 week mark?
Mandatory reconsideration (MC) and Change of circumstances (COC) is around 20-25 weeks.
Renewals tend to be between 15-20 weeks.
If you disagree with the outcome of an MR you can appeal and go to court (tribunal)
Scan date is the date DLA scan your application forms on to their system, if you downloaded your application forms then this will be from when your award will be backdated from. If you called up for forms then the date on those is the date yours will be backdated from.
If successful and claiming universal credit (UC) please update them as this will entitle you to disabled child element adding extra to your award.

Received my backpay today! Going to treat DD. Will have to be something in the house though. I was going to try and take her away for a night but she will not go for that.

I've let UC know so now it's another waiting game for them though I'm hoping they're quicker than 20 weeks! 🤣

Wonderful!! Happy for us today. What a feeling!

I'm on day 10 of eating pasta and tomato sauce while trying to breastfeed the baby, my sons Sensory around food means some days ill have to make 3 different dinners and it's costly.

1st thing I want is a lovely dinner for us all tonight... something with meat and potatos and a desert 🤣🥰

Congratulations 🎊

Starboymummy · 29/01/2025 14:00

Liya1xx · 29/01/2025 14:09

I've just rung about my MR as we're 21 weeks tomorrow (SD 5/9)
The person I spoke to said the decisions are taking up to 25 weeks but are usually being made in the last week.

By the scan dates being awarded, NCs are a few weeks quicker.
That could all change though🤷🏼‍♀️.

It's honestly a guessing game at this point which is triggering my mental health.

Nads2210 · 29/01/2025 14:27

I hope it's a positive outcome for you, It's hard "proving" the needs but were trying the best we can, 🤞🏼 it's not too much longer of a wait, Once he's awarded (hopefully!) it'l help in so many ways, Wishing the best for you & the rest of the parents in the wait game x

AsaG7 · 29/01/2025 17:07

Hi all, I sent my forms with full confidence my DD will be awarded HRM. She is amputated at knee on one side and no feet on other with dislocated hips. She does wear prosthetic legs to stand and uses NHS wheelchair for mobility.
After reading on other cases online, I now am not sure if she gets HR.
If she uses wheelchair, does that count as 'walking'?

@Daisy4877 Touché.. My comment to you was sarcasm incase you didn't catch it. " just planning on spending all your money aren't you" what money is that you speak of? I have 5 children, I work 70 hours a week for HMRC i over see some of the dwp benefits in my job role, my children's father is a Decision maker for dla 😁 but yes I've put a claim in for dla for one of my children ( he's 13) i should have done it along time ago.. Do you know why i put the claim in cause I'm entitled to it 👏 I don't need to worry about benefit caps because I'm not entitled to UC, you see you came over here sideways from Facebook, with judgey negativity and gossip and needing someone to agree with you, they say don't judge thy neighbour, this is a safe space on this forum we are all here to keep others informed, share information, give updates be supportive and nice and kind and hopefully alieviate the anxiety some parents feel with claiming for a child as the process is daunting, I'm sorry you feel the need to make people feel bad for just claiming and chasing what they are entitled to but we don't do that over here 😁 p.s I don't need to go and care for my child he's at the childminders as he's been taken out of mainstream school awaiting a sen setting I'm sure the child minder is looking after him since I pay her £50 a day to do so.. Did you have any questions regarding dla I'd be happy to help?

Well said. Actually, the first time I claimed DLA for one of my children was 2004 and I received so much help from Mumsnet. There was a whole thread about DLA tips - it’s probably still in the archives.

The Mumsnet SN board has always been a supportive place where parents help other parents. We are all on the side of other parents. People helped me, so I’m only too pleased to help anyone else if I possibly could.

I don’t like the Facebook DLA groups because they seem to be toxic places, full of people who resent DLA claimants even though they themselves receive DLA for their child. They are very negative and unhelpful so I just don’t bother to even look on there, much less ask a question. The mentality baffles me.

Justanotherlove · 29/01/2025 17:21

@AsaG7 I've read some dreadful stories of the dwp declining mobility because of a prosthetic limb in situ, because the prosthetic-limb replaces the natural limb and therefore able! Absolute f....king disgrace of course, your best bet is to say darling child refuses the aid and it's hard to attach.
Children like that, that do get refused, the department should hang their heads in shame. Do not give up, you are deserving.
Bless your sweet child. I hope you get all the support xxxx

Hanskie · 29/01/2025 17:49

NC SD 28.10 hopefully will hear some thing soon

Luna12x · 29/01/2025 18:29

NC SD 11/10 called today, and not been looked at yet. The wait is awful!

B2B25 · 29/01/2025 18:32

Ohh scan date as me, gt told last week it could take till the end of February!

My scan date was 11/09 and I was awarded yesterday. So hopefully it won't be too much longer for you both x

PositivityRipples · 29/01/2025 19:03

@Lyannaa yes I've heard fb isn't the best place for updates or help or support, I'm not on them groups, i found this thread by accident about 15 threads ago ( November) time it's a great space, lovely and polite and helpful, ive stuck around as wanted to see some of the other ladies get awarded, I'm only about 10 weeks into my scan date but it's interesting to see a claim through from the other side, and how long it's taking and just to get some advice and give advise, i know the process but no better people to ask than someone who's been through it or going through it, so I've been popping on and off.. I disliked that ladies approach i mean if someone's child is entitled to dla and they make a claim and have evidence to back it up then none of us should be judgeing anyone, because we don't know anyone's struggles child or parent, even the schools and hospitals and doctors don't fully see it, and if someone wants to chase a claim and backpay and anything else they are entitled to fair play to them, i mean if the mother doesn't advocate for the child who will 😁 dla shouldn't take half a year to sort their shit out and backpay, the last thing anyone needs is someone being judgemental, its unnecessary 👏

Keepitup88 · 29/01/2025 19:15

I’m seeing so many September dates (some after me and some early October!) on the Facebook groups. I rang Monday and mines still in holding queue but (impatiently) waiting until next Monday to call again. Scan date 23/09

Lyannaa · 29/01/2025 19:30

@PositivityRipples absolutely spot on. DLA is not means-tested, either. David Cameron was open about the fact that he claimed it for his disabled son.

Exactly as a PP rightly said, if you're legally entitled to the money then nobody has the right to judge or gossip or tell you how you should feel. Especially the parent of a disabled child. We all have so many hoops to jump through, whether it's the DWP or the LA trying not to give your child provision or a diagnosis. The last thing we need is people making it into a contest where only certain people are 'worthy'.

I was awarded today at 20/08 MR, it seems they should wrap up August by next week. I think you will recieve a decision week of the 11th. But they could move faster. Most MRs are hearing back between 22-23 weeks. Mines was 23 weeks exactly. Hope that helps!

Can I just ask everyone what do you have in the way of evidence? My dd is 5 and is not under a paediatrician. She's going to be assessed this year, hopefully (though not by the umbrella team because it will take 3 years but our chosen provider uses NICE guidelines).

School can vouch for her needs and have seen how difficult it is to get her to eat and drink, transition, emotional upsets etc but academically she's very able. I'm sure that won't help from DLA perspective but had to go through tribunal with one of my other disabled children. So if it does end up with an appeal, I guess we might have a diagnosis report by then. It's amazing how spikey these kids are with profiles. If I didn't follow her around with a plate, feeding her individual tiny squares of toast, she wouldn't eat a thing.

Dd3, who is now 15 did not get her written report from the umbrella team until she was 9 and I had to push hard. They kept dragging their feet and saying that because she'd already been diagnosed with ADHD at 6, they weren't able to see what was ASD Hmm her report was adequate but not very detailed and they ended up agreeing she fitted ASD. And even though I used the report with the first application for DLA it was turned down and MR was turned down. So reports don't even necessarily help.

What I'm trying to say is, these days it usually takes quite a long time to get much in the way of professional reports. I feel that government agencies don't believe what parents say generally.
