DLA WAIT TIMES THREAD 63

1000 replies

zoeybrooks45 · 22/01/2025 21:02

Please feel free to add your scan date and whether it's a new claim/mandatory reconsideration/change of circumstances or renewal.
New claims (NC) - people are being told the wait time has increased to 25 weeks! I would say most are done before this though around the 20 week mark?
Mandatory reconsideration (MC) and Change of circumstances (COC) is around 20-25 weeks.
Renewals tend to be between 15-20 weeks.
If you disagree with the outcome of an MR you can appeal and go to court (tribunal)
Scan date is the date DLA scan your application forms on to their system, if you downloaded your application forms then this will be from when your award will be backdated from. If you called up for forms then the date on those is the date yours will be backdated from.
If successful and claiming universal credit (UC) please update them as this will entitle you to disabled child element adding extra to your award.

@zoeybrooks45 once the DM has made a decision on award rate and length the case then goes to the DPD ( dedicated payment department) to calculate the exact backpay amount and authorise the backpay amount based on the date the DM gives them from and then they initiate the payment process.

I have a UC question. I have been awarded middle rate care DLA.
If I apply for careers allowance I know it’s taken off UC £ for £ but if you get a back payment from them so they take the back payment off your UC or just your payments going forward?
Thank you.

Yes unfortunately they take it back, as they class it as an overpayment if you backdate carers allowance. So if you back date carers allowance and you were already paid uc for that period they will ask for that amount back because it’s like they have paid you twice (carers allowance and uc) I believe it’s around £354 for the month. Hope that helps ☺️

I know how you feel , we're still waiting diagnosis, but he has such a high mask at school they think I'm insane. We have applied currently waiting on mandatory reconsideration as declined the first time. As long as you can provide evidence of care and difficulties Daily and nightly even if you make a daily diary Monday- Sunday and night time diary can help.

CPLPmam · 29/01/2025 08:35

How long after a decision did you receive backpay in your bank? was told over the phone a decision was made yesterday and I'm stressing that they'll change their mind.

Daisy4877 · 29/01/2025 08:44

Correct me if I'm wrong . I'm on dla Facebook groups and I've seen so many messages from people who have now been accepted for dla for their children but all they seem to care about is the benefit cap being lifted and backpack of everything? I'm not being funny but that's the last thing I would be thinking about almost as if they have made the claim just to get out the benefit cap!! Some people have got quite nasty on the groups when people have said no its for your children and not your benefit! I can understand the financial difficulty everyone is in myself included ( I've recently split with my partner of nearly 19 years (8 children later) and I currently care day and night for my daughter with anorerxia nervosa but the benefit cap and backpay is just the bonus of it if you will.

Middle August I think mines the 20th and still waiting

Seafish1985 · 29/01/2025 09:00

Hello all, I'm new here. I called to apply last year October, and was sent a letter saying they received the info on the 22nd of November.
My son is diagnosed with Autism.
I've had letters saying wait 15 weeks 2x. But I was on the phone to my UC work coach 2 days ago, and she said, 'oh are you claiming dla for (son)?' To which I explained I'm still waiting to hear.
Doss this mean it's been awarded and they have the info before me? Or do UC know when we've applied?
Tia xx

Seafish1985 · 29/01/2025 09:10

OK, so just git off the phone to dla, and he said its currently taking 22-25 weeks, and as my claim was scanned on the 22nd of November, I'm to wait until April 25th, but may 15th is the latest it can go. So a long wait still. Anyone wondering, calculate 25 weeks from your scan date. Best of luck to you all. X

zoeybrooks45 · 29/01/2025 09:21

Just got off the phone decision was made on my MR 20/08 after waiting since the April for COC when they decided award will not be changed.

1st scan date 29/05
2nd decision 20/08 keep award the same MRC
3rd decision MR award increased to HRC but declined HRM

I am actually very annoyed with the outcome as I have all the evidence which covers HRM, paediatrician report stating behavioural problems and no sense of decision use of restraints etc. the lady on the phone stated because it was recieved yesterday it wasn’t looked at. And it will now be looked at as late evidence as it could change claim. She also stated that I would have to do a MR again as award was changed so I can’t go straight to tribrunal to appeal. The lady stated I should give a two weeks to see if decison is overturned agian. I really can’t see myself waiting another 6months for MR. I will do it though but when the evidence states everything why do we have to appeal so much times. Very frustrating. @Mumabear13 have you started appeal process?

@Daisy4877 Good Morning, I'm sure people aren't being nasty maybe they are just responding from a place of feeling judged and from being stressed out from the long waits from dla and uc and schools and services and neuro, your comment here does come across a little condescending and lacking empathy but I'll take that with a pinch of salt, maybe the reason people are chasing the back paid money and the benefit cap lift because they are caring for a disabled child so they are unable to work currently and the child needs things and so do they as a family and that includes money, I'm sure the benefit cap is not all they care about but when you're waiting for 6 different things ( dla, backpay, neuro, and scholms, but ehcp, medication, therapy, equipment) the parents are in a high state of stress /anxiety and they want and need things sorting so it's one less thing to worry about, I mean why wouldn't they chase the back pay which would inturn lift their benefit cap if they are entitled to that? Unfortunately unless you inform the correct departments it isn't done and even updating the correct departments sometimes feels overwhelming for the parent too on top of everything else and then waiting for DM from other departments, so with all that in mind maybe we should be a little more kind and supportive and a little less judgey, also yes dla is a child disability benefit but it isn't paid to the child it's paid to the parent or care giver to help them with the extra costs involved with having a disabled child and because most parents and care givers are unable to work or have to reduce working hours or pay for specialist childcare outside of school hours if they have to work full time and to be able to get carers element or carers allowance the person you are caring for ie the child has to be on a qualifying benefit so of course the parent is in financial hardship and having to chase what they and child are entitled to. Hope that helps 😊

It's money they are legally entitled to, why shouldn't they care about it?

The benefit cap takes hundreds of pounds a month off people. It also means you are constantly hassled by work coaches at the DWP to get a job when you've also got a disabled child to care for.

I'm sure most of us can think of all the ways that our disabled children cost us much more money than NT kids. Not that we'd change them but it's the reality.
