Starting the 2019 support thread for those on SW or those thinking of starting.

Let's introduce ourselves. I'm Groovee. In 2016 I was told to lose weight so I could have Gynae surgery. I joined SW in Jan 2017. Have lost 4.5st on SW 5.5st since 2016. Have been at target for 9 months now. Long may it continue being at target and staying there.

Have my new members pack and look forward to the challenges of 2019. I need to look for some new recipes.

Brrrrr it's cold here today, could really eat mince and dumplings tonight, but have chicken salad planned instead. Maybe tomorrow after WI.

What snacks can I take into hospital for the end of the month. There for three days, and hospital food is crap.

rosieposey · 09/01/2019 14:03

Hello, may I join?

I'm having a read through your thread as lots of good advice and tips on here.

Tbh I'm using the slimming world ready meals as it's helping me to stay more in control of what I eat. Has anyone tried the chunky chilli beef yet? I used a h e a on it with half a pick of frozen rice plus a side salad and it's delicious!

I'll probably have the other half of the chilli for dinner tonight with the lovely extra h e a that they are now allowing.

I have lost 3.5 stone over the last 3 years. Not really trying tbh but this last year I've stagnated and I need to lose another 4 to get to the top of my healthy weight range.

Some really inspiring losses on here, hope this year is the year the last of the weight goes.

Groovee · 09/01/2019 17:06

Good old spaghetti Bolognese for tea. Speedy salad and carrots and mushrooms in my Bolognese. 40g of lighter cheddar as my HEA

Hi everyone.

Right, I am back on it properly as from today. So far so good.

I had a rough few days and had messaged my consultant a few times for some input, but she didnt reply. I was on the verge of throwing in the towel totally, but because i was half way through a 12 week countdown I thought I may as well go and face my damage last night and try 1 more time. Anyway, the poor consultant who I had been cursing about had broken her phone and lost Whatsapp, so not received any of my messages. Had a lovely encouraging message from her today and I feel a bit stupid for not trusting her.

I now have 1 stone to lose to get to my lowest and then another stone to get to my target. I will give it a good go and feel that this is achievable this year, so here goes.....

Chicken/bacon/lentil and veg stew smelling good in the slow cooker for tonight - and for the next 10 nights by the look of it. I am so used to cooking for a large family that I don't think i will ever not over cook amounts.

Hope you have all had a good day.

FiveNightsAtMummys · 09/01/2019 17:21

@ALemonyPea

Fruit - apples, oranges, bananas, pears, grapes etc

hifi bars / alpen light bars- you could use them as your HEB or syn them whichever.

I guess any fresh foods is out as they'll be no where to store them?

Space raiders, I get the beef mulitpacks which are 3 syns each (think there 11.8g each).

Fibre one bars - 4 syns each and are quite nice tasting.

Maybe take some sweetner for when tea person comes round (if you use it).

Ryvita rye cakes lightly salted you can have 5 for a heb or 1 syn each.

Flakes - if your buy the mini ones that go on ice creams (usually found down ice cream cone / ice cream sauces isle) there only 2 syns each.

Well done on the losses Mymadworld & Groovee !

I'm always shocked too at how quickly weight goes on but takes ages to get rid of again.

Having a quorn chilli with rice tonight. Tomorrow we'll be having an Indian takeaway before our son goes back to uni on Friday. I don't eat meat, but do eat fish. I usually have tandoori grilled prawns and rice and a poppadom which I tell myself is a good choice. Any other ideas would be gratefully received.

boats16 · 09/01/2019 18:06

@ ALemonyPea
Ryvita with wafer thin ham
Fruit
Fun size chocolate bars 4 1/2 syns
Freddo 5 syns
pink n whites 2 1/2 syns each
mug shots (chicken used to be free but now I think it is a small syn )
muller lights
babybel
syn free chargrilled chicken fillets

ALemonyPea · 09/01/2019 19:05

I realy don't like any of the SW ready meals. They're all over spiced and watery.

I might just wing it in hospital. Do t really want to take hifi bars in, might take some popcorn in, and DH could bring me a subway salad each night.

Well done for going back PA, and glad it was a misunderstanding on your consultants behalf. Does your group not have a FB page?

latedecember1963 · 09/01/2019 19:15

I don't like the SW meals either. I got a couple to have at the caravan last summer and found them watery too. I managed a few mouthfuls of the veg Baltic before throwing most away. It takes a lot for me to not finish a meal!

Would satsumas be a good hospital snack, Lemony?

Youcandothis365 · 09/01/2019 19:29

First weigh in tonight and I've lost 4 1/5 lbs 😃!!

boats16 · 09/01/2019 19:52

Well done @ Youcandothis Smile

Youcandothis365 · 09/01/2019 19:59

Should have said 4 and 1/2.

I'm trying to avoid the post weigh in blow out aka "treating" myself with something naughty for tea as a reward for loosing weight (which I always used to do) - which thinking about it was really counterproductive!

FiveNightsAtMummys · 09/01/2019 20:20

Well done Youcan! I'm the opposite I always feel motivated after weigh in, it's the weekend I start thinking of take aways and treats.
I'm so full today, this always worrys me but I todays meals have been good:

Breakfast: 1 Weetabix and banana skimmed milk.

Lunch - fried egg (frylight), mushrooms, tomatoes, beans and 1 slice of small wm bread.

Snack- carrot sticks, laughing cow blue x 5, 2 pieces of chicken and 4 seafood sticks.

Tea- 6 meatballs (1syn), courgetti and spiralised carrot. Sauce was passata, leeks, oregano, mixed herbs and fresh garlic.

Dessert - jelly 1 syn

Total syns 4.5 (2.5 for a skinny latte I has earlier).

I feel like my stomach is going to bust it's that full.

WTF99 · 09/01/2019 20:24

Hi all!
Well I signed up last Thursday and really enjoyed the group. Did the blind weigh in and I've been pretty much on plan this week except for Saturday night when I went 4 syns over on non alcoholic fizz.....shouldn't have bothered really as it wasn't that nice. I'm doing dry January as well and I'm missing a nice glass of wine I must admit.....
So I'm on plan but feel full all the time and not sure I'm eating enough speed. Can't believe I'm losing weight. We'll see what the scales say tomorrow!
Well done everyone on losses.

Groovee · 09/01/2019 20:36

Well done @Youcandothis365

@ALemonyPea I'd try to get fruit which could sit beside your cabinet. Some popcorn, maybe some ryvita fruit crunch and ask dh to bring in some fruit packs at night so they are fresh.

Welcome @WTF99

Just had my second HEB seeing as I'm back at target. Made melt in the middle chocolate orange baked oats. Only 3 syns

Lost a pound! Been for a run too.

Going for a new Indian meal at the weekend, any suggestions on what to have? Nothing too spicy.

shecamefromgreece · 09/01/2019 21:12

Hi welcome Rosie and wtf99.

Well I weigh in tonight and I lose 6 lbs yay I feel like I want to do a little danceGrin
Long way to go still but a good start.

There was a man at my group who jonined last week he lost 14.5 lbs in his first week!!! He got two awards, wow!

They look yummy groovee.

ALemonyPea · 09/01/2019 21:17

Satsumas are a good idea. Doubt I'll be hungry after my op, as wasn't last time. It's just the thought really of being in hospital, makes me want to snack.

Awesome losses everyone.

Does anyone else have a night before WI ritual? Ihsve a bath, wash my hair and shave everywhere that needs shaved. Every little helps 😉

Chicken tandoori is usually low syn, with a popadom, salad and plain pilau. Indian food isn't great syn wise.

shecamefromgreece · 09/01/2019 21:24

I usually have chicken rogan josh which I think is one of the lowest at around 8 syns and boiled rice.
Poppadums come it at around 4 syns if I remember rightly.

latedecember1963 · 09/01/2019 21:36

I used to find myself having treats after WI either because I'd lost or as a "sod it" if I'd gained. Now I call by my MIL after WI and she makes me 2 small slices of Warburton's Toastie bread toast with butter and we have a natter. By the time I go home the impulse to eat mindlessly has passed and I've still had a treat but one that has parameters.

boats16 · 09/01/2019 21:39

I usually have a chicken/lamb biryani when I go to an Indian. Indians arent my favourite as Im not a curry lover. The SW vegetable biryani is nicer than it looks. I cooked it, took out the big chunks of carrot and added that and cooked chicken to a pan with frylight. I used a SW dish and made a loose version of CFR

boats16 · 09/01/2019 21:42

Well done @ Woopwoop Smile

OwlinaTree · 09/01/2019 22:56

Well done losers, some really good results here.

I've stayed on plan today, had a bad day regarding car breakdown and a couple of hours waiting for the rac but other than needing new tyres, all is sorted!

I measured out milk and took it to work today to get an idea of what I was using, I reckon I use about a hea on drinks at work, which will give me extra for drinks at home and cheese! Happy days.

FiveNightsAtMummys · 09/01/2019 23:26

I also shave and wash my hair before weight in..I think light and fluffy hair will weight lighter than slick it needs washing soon hair lol. I weigh in mid morning so will only have 1 drink till after.

WTF99 · 10/01/2019 07:53

Weigh day....I feel heavy! Gotta wait til 7pm to find out...

Looking for recipes for a nice dinner in on Saturday night with my other half. Any favourite ideas? Not chicken as he's trying to lose a few pounds too and has had chicken every day this week!
