First time on the SS board.

Started SS at the beginning of Jan and just had my 6th weigh in. I need to lose about 5st. I've stuck to plan, I've kept my syns below 10. I've avoided nights out, I'm not drinking, I've written everything down. In 6wks I've lost 8lbs, averaging 1.33lbs per week

Each week in group I listen to people talk about going out for Chinese or drinks and still losing 3/4lbs I'm not losing that much and I feel like I'm working quite hard at it. I just feel a bit rubbish really, I'm sure people must think I'm gorging on chocolate or something but I'm really not. It feels like I can't go out because if I do I will actually put on weight, whereas others in my group say things like "oh lost 2.5lbs this week, I'm really pleased with that, because I was out the other night"

Anyone else like this?

Sp is difficult, I find it really hard to plan in advance enough.

Mango, pinapple and grapes aren't sp and they are my staple foods in a normal day.

Doing sp does make you think twice and check more

I'm confused so extra easy is different from sp?
So SP is carb free
Extra easy is some carbs, is that right?

Hello ladies, I'm just back from my weigh-in and after following your advice of keeping syns low and cutting down carbs. I lost 3lbs this week, bringing my total to 11lbs.
Just wanted to say thanks to you all. I was ready to fall off the wagon last week and you lot kept me on the straight and narrow. Flowers

Well done frizz, its not technically carb free as you can have the bread or cereal hexb choices but extra easy is carbs, pasta rice potatoes etc.
Doing sp for a day or 2 or as long as I can take. Been away for 5 days and ate & drunk bucket loads. My scale said 7lb on this morning. Oh dear!!!

Did you check in the morning or evening? I always find I'm heavier in the evenings (well that's my excuse).Wink

Checked in officially this morning. 4lb on!!!!Shock Grin.
The amount of Wine we got through this weekend and voddies plus 4 days restaurant eating out was no ones business. New day new start. I have no excuse, just total mayhem.

Sorry been doing all things half term the last few days forgot to check back on the thread.
Annie sounds like a great week. I think blow out weeks are needed and help re-focus.
Also my weigh-ins are in the evening, so clearly I've lost 6lbs in a week Wink

I'm just doing extra easy and we we're told 1/3 plate veggies then your protein & carbs so I literally can't fit mounds of carbs on if that makes sense. Plus make sure you're weighing your Healthy extra bread, I though 2 slices from a 400g loaf would be the same but they're not.

You might like our group - our leader remind those of us with slow and steady weight loss that that's how she lost her 5 stone, 1lb a week.

Also, I'm a slow loser too but again I wasn't eating complete crap beforehand, I'm focussing on not eating for comfort/ boredom/ habit and the weight is going. 8lb is awesome!

52 lb a year. That is a lot.

Report

It is a lot and I need to remember that. I've not stayed for the full meeting for two weeks and think that has helped and given me some perspective.
I weigh in tomorrow night and I'm staying for the meeting, so hopefully I've lost something and keep the perspective

Hi, I am the same! Started slimming world in June 2014 and so far have lost 2 stone 1.5lb. It's coming off slow but hopefully be at my target of 11st by birthday in May.
Like all the others are saying too... exercise definitely helps! I have just recently started going to the gym and before that my weekly losses were 0.5 - 1.5 a week. For the last 3 weeks i have lost 3, then 3 then 2 so there is no denying that the exercising helps. Although when at class the consultant asks you what you have been doing through the week and you mention that the gym is helping, they shrug it off and say "oh thats good, but the weight loss will be powered purely by food, exercising only tones"... Sorry but thats not the case for me. Slimming World works without a doubt, but pounding the pavements or the treadmill will speed things up. :)

How funny Chitter - my consultant looked like I'd offered her poison because I said I'd cut back carbs and was weighing them. They're a bit funny when you're tweaking the plan slightly.

Its taken me 18 months to lose 3 stone and thats sticking to plan. To the PP on page 1 Some of us stick to plan and STILL lose and regain the same few pounds.

I havent seen a takeaway or been out to a restaurant in ALL that time. Looking at my weighing in book (which i defaced this week which made me feel a whole lot better) its taken me since last April to lose the last stone.
I lost 10 stone in 18 months the first time and now after losing this last 3 i can say ive kept 7 and a half stone off.

I was 29 the first time and could get away with eating all the carbs. Not so at 40+ I gave up pasta when i started back 18 months ago.

I think its time to drop the spuds now. Ive gained recently but ive been sticking to plan. Slimming World and the Mini Pill dont mix. Ive stopped the pill as i no longer need it for contraception but i REFUSE to go back and be weighed again until my periods restart and the fluid retention has gone.

"Theyre a bit funny when you are tweaking the plan slightly" Ill bet they are Hmm They are more interested in making money than treating ppl like individuals. They cant expect the same plan to work for everyone. We are not all the same. Ive kept my syns to 8 or below and followed the plan to the letter and STILL struggled. Am currently considering swapping this shit for a salsa class before i develop an eating disorder.

The only fruit i eat is strawberries/blueberries on top of my Weetabix. I have HALF a plate of veg EVERY night and its still a struggle. I actually found myself considering drinking salt water after meals. But i wont because i have a terrible fear of vomiting and dont want to wreck my teeth.

I CANT eat citrus fruits because they give me terrible colic. Had my gall bladder out thanks to losing weight too quickly the first time.

Completely agree with the competitive aspect. I feel worse when i stay to class. Image therapy is a crock of shit.

Ppl who keep going and keep trying to the detriment of their social lives and friendships despite losing slowly just seem to get pushed to one side.

when i posted on the fb support group that goes with our class that im cutting out potatos it got no likes. Like i give a turd!

I go into class once a fortnight rather than once a week because going in once a week while losing slowly is just too demotivating. I did start to go in once a week but it got too much psychologically.

Dont actually care about awards or stickers (im not 5) but less of the patronizing "wow you came in anyway good for you" which implies im not sticking to plan when i am, really gets my fucking back up.

Sorry for the moan but i think i needed it. Glad i found this thread.

My mum and dad were very supportive tonight which helped. And i saw someone earlier this week who i hadnt seen for a while who said i looked great. I like what i see in the mirror and then i go and get weighed and patronized at these classes and it knocks my confidence.

Image Therapy my arse.

Well done on your 3lb loss in a week, I bet that felt amazing!

I agree you can't eat unlimited amounts of carbs (or anything) and lose weight. I think part of the reason SW works is that it has a psychological affect, you can eat unlimited carbs, but realistically, most people won't eat a huge plateful of pasta every single night or at every meal. Also, as mentioned, the 1/3 speed foods is a kind of portion control.

I do think that groups almost encourage you to compare yourself to others and that must be really unhelpful for some people. I do think it depends on your consultant too though. Most are awful/boring IMO. I have had at least two Marjorie daws types over the years and at the class I go to now, where I really love my consultant and group members, my weight loss has been most successful. I think too though that when people say they've been out and still lost weight etc then they may have done things to counteract that. For example, I find I can have one meal out a week and have what I want, three courses and still lose weight. I don't drink alcohol though and will then be extra careful about what I eat the rest of the week, maybe trying original days (although they no longer technically exist) and having extra speed foods. Sometimes, if I actually look at what I've eaten, most if it is fruit and veg, whereas going by pics on the Facebook page, some people have very small amounts of this. Which is obviously fine, but I think it helps explain why some people lose more than others when everyone is sticking to plan. After all, although SW don't admit it, it's all about calories in and out, SW doesn't work by magic.

1/2-2lb loss a week is healthy and sustainable. A lady at my group has lost that and is now 4 1/2 stone lighter.

midori i tried the counteract method in the run up to my birthday last year. I had a slice of cake and gained a pound.

Ive been on 2 sins a day most days sometimes going up to 10 which is where i start to gain.
You should see the fb page that goes with MY group. Bloody great big plates of pasta. If i did that i would be huge.

I knew this could be a long job so i did prepare for it beforehand.

Gave up diet coke in April 2013. drink more water.

stopped eating bread.....August 2013 and also started excersising.

Gave up pasta and started back at SW in Sept 2013.

Gave up the low fat Super Noodles in Nov 2013

Today i have to sit and look at my husband enjoy his chocolate cake on a pivotal birthday Hes 65 today (im 41) the birthday that we thought he would never see because of a heart attack he had 9 years ago. He was diagnoesed with COPD last Nov and NO i didnt comfort eat.....because i havent done that for many years. It dosnt bother me anymore I dont give a shit.

But i DO know that GOD FORBID if i ever become ill and im prescibed meds that have "may cause weight gain" on the leaflet they will be flushed straight down the bog. My surgery gave me a hard time about my weight in my teens and twenties so this would be the consequences of that.

That must be frustrating! I'm on long term, high dose steroids. I also can't really exercise due to the health condition they're treating as it would be exceptionally dangerous. That does make it harder to lose weight and I have noticed that. I'm still almost a stone lighter since the start of January though.

I've sometimes tracked my calories on my fitness pal (purely out of interest) and it's surprising how few it can be when you feel like you're eating loads.

I've done sw after each of my children were born and usually lost around 3 stone each time, I'm back on it again after dc4 wanting to lose 5 stone. What I've found myself doing sometimes is eating just because I can. So when I'm told something is free and I can eat an unlimited amount I take it too far. When I do this I definitely notice a much slower weight loss. I love carbs and couldn't cut them it's the main reason I love slimming world. I would look at portion sizes and up your fruit and veg massively. Also as someone else said loads of water.
You're doing amazingly though don't give yourself a hard time. :)

Ive upped my veg and eat loads of it.

My doctor has told me not to eat a lot of friuts because they give me colic. Ive just eaten what was nearly half of a frozen packet of veg. Beliieve me ive done this every which way but loose over the past 18 months. I dont eat pasta. See this is the thing I now feel im having to justify myself when ive tried it every which way over the past 18 months The end result and the speed of the weight loss doesnt change no matter what i do. I will just keep going and going and going and going and going and now i will limit the carbs as much as i can.

Midori that must be frustrating. Something ive noticed in group is that men lose quicker than women. One guy has lost 3 stone in five months. Its taken me 18 months to lose the same amount. I think men should have seperate classes from women.

Society tells men how different they are from women and how they cant see dirt and yet when men are in the same slimming class as women all of a sudden we are the same Confused Misogyny IMO. Men lose weight quicker due to having higher testosterone. Ive read a few scientific studies over the past 18 months. The men should be in seperate classes because this puts too much pressure on women.

I switched off the notifications on my fb so i dont see any more gung ho SW propaganda coming down my page Didnt work so i left the fb group altogether and you would not believe the relief i felt after pressing that particular button.

doc said to avoid

Oranges satsumas clementines etc

kiwi
raspberry.
lemons
plums.
grapefruit
starfruit.

she said i could eat melon apples pears and strawberries.

I gained when i upped my fruit intake so now i just have strawberries and blueberries on my breakfast in the morning.

I asked my doc and she said there is a lot of sugar in these fruits and she reckoned that was why i gained.

She also made very scathing comments about slimming clubs in general She does not like the competitive aspect either.

ive dropped my portion sizes massively i did that straight away and it caused so much stomach pain i had to dose myself up on painkillers for 5 months till my stomach got used to it,

i cannot drop my portion sizes any further without making myself ill My husband is very concerned about the smaller amount im eating already.

I used to be 21 stone im now 13 and a half. I carry it well. Im an hourglass with boobs. My mum thought i was 11 and a half. i cannot drop anymore food without making myself ill. Apart from spuds which im happy to not eat.

Tonights dinner was vegtables and peas.
