New thread for night (and daytime!) chatter for those awake more than they'd like with a non sleeping baby/child 😊

My DS is five months. First baby likely to be only baby if I don't start getting more sleep He is a nap and sleep fighter but incredibly cute so I choose to forgive him 😂

Third attemptSad... what’s going on??? Is it really because he’s so comfy sleeping on me??? But why now at 3 months??? Arggg....
think I might have to get on the floor with him again tonight if I want some sleep...

HashtagTired · 14/02/2018 05:00

Ds has been awake since 3am. He's fallen asleep and I'm wide awake!!

Sigh.

He'll be awake in 1.5 hours. Maybe less now because it's 5am and only knows how to kip in one hour intervals between 5am and 8pm. After which he'll occasionally stretch to 2.5 hours if he's feeling generous.

HashtagTired · 14/02/2018 05:03

But he looks so yummy sleeping with his arms above his head, like he's surrendering. He's in a black and white stripey baby grow too, so looks like he's a robber that's just been caught!

Oh I need some sleep to save my sanity.

mommybear1 · 14/02/2018 05:29

Morning all!! Well DS (16 weeks) has never been a good sleeper 20 min cat naps and then up and alert for 2 hours in case he misses out 😂. Tonight he has surpassed himself with only 30 mins of sleep in 10 min slots 😩 I blame his third set of jabs but honestly thought his calpol would knock him out. Have to be up in 1hr 30 for workmen arrivals it's going to be a loooong day Hmm

lizzlebizzle33 · 14/02/2018 08:12

What a rotten night, ended up back on the couch with Ds 2 sleeping on me, he just wakes himself up on his back with how congested he is.
I think I've had maybe an hours sleep.

At least ds1 slept through, and didn't get up too early, I'm definitely not ready to start the day though.
Why do I only have decaf coffee in the house????

Anybody get any sleep last night?

Sending hugs and pats on the back to all you mummies.xxx

Meepmoop · 14/02/2018 08:22

@lizzlebizzle33 I'm with you on the sleeping on the chair. I did manage to get a couple hours in my bed at 3am but that was it. DS is still crabby and coughy.

It's miserable outside today which is not making me feel anymore awake

lizzlebizzle33 · 14/02/2018 08:32

@Meepmoop I know, I just want to curl up with a massive chocolate bar and watch friends.

Instead it's mum duties x 2, trying to give them medicine, wiping snotty noses and postman pat take over on the to 😩

At least if it were nice we could get some air and they might nap on the pram, but noooo. Screw you weather!!!

Sakura03 · 14/02/2018 09:01

4.5 hours broken sleep last night... and I’ve got a hacking cough now... On a positive note we’ve got beautiful crisp sunshine here, it’s minus 3 degrees I took ds in the pram to the local supermarket and got us some fresh breakfast rolls. I can smell the coffee brewing, I’m going to need loads!!! I think we’re off out for a walk after breakfast.

HashtagTired · 14/02/2018 09:26

Day in for me today. Just dropped dd off at holiday club and so ds and I will curl up in the sofa today. Tomorrow the weather will look better so I'll make plans to go out then. But for now, it's a Netflix day for us!

AMagdalena · 14/02/2018 10:48

Sorry to hear of the rotten nights!

We had 4 wake-ups, but...DD lasted in the travel cot for 2 h 15 mins. Not amazing, but not bad, considering I only stroked her back and sang to her for 5 mins.
Truth to be told, I can't be bothered to sing to her every time she wakes up. I was destined to co-sleep 😢

WhoAteAllthePercyPigs · 14/02/2018 11:37

Sounds like shit nights all round! Although good work on the travel cot @AMagdalena! Sounds beautiful where you are @sakura.

So, yes, awful night here. Had a meltdown at 530am when it became very clear that DS was not for going back to sleep and I knew I had to get up at 6.45 for nursery run. Luckily DH heard us and came and took DS while he got ready for work. Gave me an extra much needed hour!

DS has another cold, so poor thing, he's very unsettled. Feels like we just got over the last one, hey ho, tis the season for it I guess.

I was a bad mummy this morning, DD was pissing about refusing to get ready and wanting to do it all her way. Ended up shouting at her, feel so guilty. It's just so hard when you're this tired isn't it?

On the upside: DS now fits into the Ergo 360 carrier we have which is brilliant - the Close Caboo was getting too flimsy to contain him and killing my back. Love this carrier, it doesn't hurt my back and he's so snug in it! Am out having a coffee before visiting a friend for lunch. After dropping off bin bags full of DD's old clothes to the charity shop - feel very accomplished!

Oh - and I made it out for a run yesterday! Legs aching today but it was amazing to be out. Felt so much better for it!

Jellybean2017 · 14/02/2018 11:57

Not a great night here. My patience is wearing thin in terms of having to go to bed at 6pm.

We have been to rhyme time this morning which DS enjoyed. He's napping on me now. DH bought me some lovely chocolates for valentines but they're downstairs and we are upstairs 🙈

lizzlebizzle33 · 14/02/2018 11:59

Oh no @Jellybean2017, nightmare. Ds2 fell asleep with his head on my knee yesterday while I was feeding ds2 who also fell asleep. I couldn't track the remote and had to suffer an hour of CBeebies 🙈

Emberblu · 14/02/2018 13:58

Oh no snacks, remote and Phone being out of reach is the worst! Currently stuck under napping ds (don't dare put down he refused a morning nap then had a meltdown!) but really need the loo 😣😩😖

cheshiremama89 · 14/02/2018 16:36

Does anyone else get anxious as evening looms, knowing what is ahead?
I'm only 10 days in Sad

lizzlebizzle33 · 14/02/2018 17:49

Very anxious for tonight, ds2 no better , and now has a gammy eye, poor thing. Could be conjunctivitis as well now. HV coming tomorrow so I guess she will recommend wether I go to the docs with him or not.

I just want some sleeeeep! Why does it have to keep getting worse????

WhoAteAllthePercyPigs · 14/02/2018 17:53

@Lizzle DS also has a gammy eye - as do I- so think it is conjunctivitis. On top of the cold and very runny poo! Yes I am very anxious and dreading tonight. Trying to make an effort for Valentine's day but am so tired, i can't see the point. Plus I got DH chocs and card and he just gotme a card. Not that it matters I know, commercialism etc...but a bit of me just wanted to feel appreciated, you know?

lizzlebizzle33 · 14/02/2018 18:10

@WhoAteAllthePercyPigs I know exactly what you mean. E don't do valentines cards and I don't mind that but I didn't even get a brew made for me!

Sorry you have the gammy eye too, doing my best to make sure ds1 and I don't get it either but we probably will😩

There was me this morning thinking tonight might be better but now I think it will be the worst night so far.

Meepmoop · 14/02/2018 19:24

I think I may win on the lack of valentine. DH left for work at 5am and still isn't back yet, haven't even had a happy Valentine's Day text. No idea when he's coming back.We don't do Valentine's Day but still.

I've been to baby sensory this morning and then coffee and cake with my friends so have had a good day. I even managed to cook a proper tea for myself. Currently convincing myself I don't need no man. I can look after DS by myself but conversation is nice. DH does loads when he's here just needs to be here

We're off to bed in a minute just waiting for my phone to charge more for when I wait for him to fall asleep

Sakura03 · 14/02/2018 19:57

cheshiremama89 oh I remember being very anxious come evening during the early weeks. My anxiety was mainly due to constant feeding in the evenings and the worry that ds wasn’t getting enough from me, but he was. I also worried that I wouldn’t get enough sleep but around week 6 I managed to turn it around and take each day/evening at a time and told myself this tough period won’t last forever. It was also reassuring to see that ds was putting on weight and I just accepted that he feeds a lot/takes longer because of a shallow latch. I hope you will find a way to feel less anxious😊

Meepmoop · 14/02/2018 20:17

DS has just vomited up loads of milk (old and new) drenching me and him. I think it's from his coughing but he seems okay. Now sleeping in my arms after we both had a change. I think I'm in for a long night

Lallypopstick · 14/02/2018 20:22

CheshireMama I definitely had that anxiety too. I remember taking up my spot at my makeshift feeding station with some downloaded box sets, snacks and water and just feeding until the baby was asleep then waiting 20 minutes before putting him into the snuzpod. Never knew how long it would take for him to sleep and how long he’d stay asleep for. I think things got more predictable at about 6 weeks... then went tits up from 12 weeks until we sleep trained.

lizzlebizzle33 · 14/02/2018 20:44

So I put ds2 on his changing mat on the floor in the living room while I just went to get my survival kit ready to take upstairs with me (chocolate, biscuits, water, phone charger) I've come back and he's fast asleep 😬

Still needs changing but I can't bring myself to wake him up, he hasn't really slept all day with this virus and he looks so peaceful.

I guess I'll just have to wait it out. It's so typical he falls asleep when u don't want him to.

UtterlyConfused111 · 14/02/2018 21:29

@jellybean
Me too; so fed up of going to bed early. I don’t think it’s going to be a good night. Three wake ups already

@sakura
I still kind of dread the nights and I’m 4.5 months in. I just want to sleep; i guess I haven’t gotten used to the fact that it’s not going to happen

@whoatealltherpercypigs
Well done on the run. I’d love to go for a run but just don’t know when it will ever happen.
How’s the ergo? I have the close Caboo but it’s too flimsy now so I’m going for a baby Bjorne but the ergo was a close second until I read that the Velcro wasn’t good
