New thread for night (and daytime!) chatter for those awake more than they'd like with a non sleeping baby/child 😊

My DS is five months. First baby likely to be only baby if I don't start getting more sleep He is a nap and sleep fighter but incredibly cute so I choose to forgive him 😂

OP posts:
NinaMarieP · 13/02/2018 07:27

I'm on Weight Watchers so my pancakes will be the banana/egg variety maybe with a smidgeon of Nutella.

Meepmoop · 13/02/2018 07:36

I love pancake day! We're a classic lemon and sugar house. Although I do like cherry pie filling and cream.

Rubbish night again, DS has developed a horrendous cough so was waking up lots. I put him in his cot at 3 and he looked unsettled so I sat in the chair scrunched up as he was bound to wake up again.. obviously fell asleep there for his longest stretch. Oh how I ache.

When do you go to the doctors about a cough. He has no other symptoms or fever. His breathe is a bit raspy but he's feeding fine and is himself

DiscombobulatedWomble · 13/02/2018 08:35

I second NinaMarieP .. HV's can be frustrating if you feel they're not taking your concerns seriously, but the things they actively discourage people from doing are generally for good reason.

Most of the people on this thread would consider only 2/3 feeds a night fantastic.. babies wake up to feed, their tummies are tiny.

WhoAteAllthePercyPigs · 13/02/2018 08:37

@jbramley sorry but I'm finding your posts a little hard to take. I don't want to believe you're a goady poster but I don't think you are going to get much sympathy for your methods here. It's commonly known that rusks in milk are a big no no, as are pillows for babies. I think you should maybe be listening to your HV a bit more...

WhoAteAllthePercyPigs · 13/02/2018 08:42

Smpathy on the couch @meepmoop. These things can last a long time, maybe give NHS24 a ring for reassurance?

DS and I both have conjunctivitis. So in addition to looking tired, I also have a streaming eye and can't even put any mascara on! Considering staying in so as not to scare small children...

Sakura03 · 13/02/2018 10:05

Ds is 3 months old today. We had a crap night, by 3 am I put my thin mattress from my mum's fold up bed on the floor so that ds could sleep with me as he kept waking up every time I put my head on the pillow. Every time I put him down in the carrycot he'd wriggle like mad and put his legs up, my guess is that he was uncomfortable due to wind as he was farting a lot. So my guesstimate is that I've had max 4 hrs sleepSad
My mum has offered to take ds out for a walk in the pram so that I can have a nap.

Zampa · 13/02/2018 11:11

@Meepmoop Do keep an eye on the cough as little one are prone to bronchiolitis. If the cough sounds wet, or you think there's any difficulty in breathing I'd go the GP. If baby looks blue, go to A&E!

Catscatsandmorecats · 13/02/2018 11:57

sakura I got less than 4 hours too in the end with both boys up so much. DH did get up with them but I didn't get any more sleep as DS1 decided he'd watch cartoons in our bed 🤦. I hope you've managed a nap now.

Went for coffee and breakfast with another nursery mum who has a baby this morning after drop off, it was well needed and the babies kept each other entertained. Now DS2 is having a good nap in his pram after walking back and I'm under a blanket on the sofa, too wired to sleep but at least resting.

I'm looking forward to pancakes later :)

Emberblu · 13/02/2018 14:57

We forgot it was pancake day so we'll have to wait til the weekend 😞

Several average nights here but I'm getting desperate to break the bouncing to sleep habit 😩 I have weak wrists and now my knees are giving in too so I actually won't be able to do it much longer now he's putting on weight (at last!). Every nap is a battle and then they only last 30 mins if I put him down Sad dread every nap at the moment 😓

lizzlebizzle33 · 13/02/2018 16:50

Fingers crossed for a better night here tonight, both Ds with colds, ds1 dealing with it put poor ds2 struggling.
Any tips for helping them sleep? I've given calpol, used snuffle babe and saline spray, he's still struggling with feeding 😩

Sakura03 · 13/02/2018 17:47

Catscatsandmorecats I was lucky to get 2 1/2 hours sleep as my mum took ds for a walk late morning, it was great, I can't remember last time I had a sleep where I didn't have to listen out for ds. But you've got two lo's so in comparison I've got it easy. I'm glad you at least managed to get a bit of rest.

We were going to have pancakes but then my sister in law invited us for dinner so we've given it a missSad

AMagdalena · 13/02/2018 18:06

DD has done some epic napping today and now she thinks it's bedtime! All because she had am early bath with me at 4.30pm.

Kind of worried I will pay for it tonight Confused

Was someone complaining about their baby waking up twice at night?
That's a good night here at 6 months old.
Completely normal. To be honest, the more new parents I talk to lately, the more convinced I am that a vast majority of babies are sleep thieves.

Catscatsandmorecats · 13/02/2018 20:17

I'm pleased you got a good nap sakura it's great when family can help.

Amagdalena I'm with you on that one, no one I know with a baby is having a good time sleep wise at the moment, I think people exaggerate the truth of how good their babies are.

I think I've worked out what was up with DS2 last night - he sprouted his second tooth today! We've dosed him up tonight so fingers crossed he'll sleep better, he was shattered today. And DS1 went off to sleep nicely so hopefully he'll sleep well too.

Fingers crossed for everyone tonight

Meepmoop · 13/02/2018 20:19

Thank you Zampa and WhoAteAllthePercyPigs, his breathing has been better today it's just the cough now. It's sounding better than the last cough he had so I think it's just a regular cold.

DS has been an unhappy chappy today though. I may have resorted to brightly coloured YouTube videos to placate him.

Pancakes went well, DS even had one and managed to eat some of it. The rest got mushed everywhere.

@Emberblu would he go to sleep if you have him up against your shoulder rocking so his head is in your neck. DS goes to sleep with me doing that and it's fairly easy on the joints. DS is a nap screamer he has to have a cry before he falls asleep unless feeding

Meepmoop · 13/02/2018 20:52

I've got a cot refuser this evening. How is everyone else fairing?

lizzlebizzle33 · 13/02/2018 20:57

😩 poorly ds2 has fallen asleep on me before I have even changes him or given him calpol so this isn't gonna go well....

theotherendofthesockportal · 13/02/2018 21:15

DD has had her third set of jabs today. The nurse advised waking her up to give her another dose of calpol 4-6 hours after bed time, this seems a bit extreme to me. Did any of you do this for your babies?

Mightymouse76 · 13/02/2018 21:57

Sock, I didn't for the first two jabs, but the third set hit him quite hard and his temperature lifted after 12 hours to 39 (later than the reported 6 hour window) so worth keeping an eye...

AMagdalena · 13/02/2018 22:20

DD still needs to have her 3rd set of jabs. Been putting it off because of her bowels.
I believe you should only vaccinate kids if they're 100% healthy.

And....DD let me watch East Enders Grin
And have my supper NOT in bed!
And...I have just settled her in the travel cot. Never mind she sounds like she's having a bad dream (having the boob taken away, most likely), it is progress, howecer short-lived!
I only sang to her and stroked her back.
I shall be back in 10 mins Grin

lizzlebizzle33 · 14/02/2018 00:00

Sigh, up for the third time already. Looks like we're taking it an hour at s time tonight. Which will actually be better than last night so I should be thankful really.

Meepmoop · 14/02/2018 00:56

Looking like no sleep for me tonight, I can't move without DS waking and screaming. I could just cry

WhoAteAllthePercyPigs · 14/02/2018 01:21

No sleep here either. Both of us have colds. Feeling rotten.

Sakura03 · 14/02/2018 01:57

Initially struggled to settle ds in the carrycot, it was the usual asleep and comfy on me and as soon as he was transferred to cot he’d wriggle around until he’d woken himself up. My mum’s convinced it’s because he wanted to be with me (although she says she’s proud of me breastfeeding him she keeps suggesting giving him formula which annoys me slightly) but apart from last night I would eventually always manage to transfer him to cot, and I believe he suffered from wind. Anyway he’s just slept 2 1/2 hours so I’m happy with that and will attempt to put him back down now.
lizzle, meep and who I hope you get some sleep soon.

Sakura03 · 14/02/2018 02:09

Arggg... Ds woke and I’m back on the 🛋...

Those of you who are going back to work, have you secured childcare for your lo? Looks like we won’t be able to get a childminder so we have arranged to visit a couple of nurseries next week, not back at work until August but childcare places are high in demand in my area so need to get a place secured soon. It’s bitter sweet as I don’t really want to think about it because I know I will find it hard handing over my baby, given the choice I would stay off work for longer or work part time...

Sakura03 · 14/02/2018 02:17

Attempted another transfer and failed Sad. Ds burped like mad when we sat down again so was clearly affecting him but can’t wind him when he falls asleep on the boob...
