New thread for night (and daytime!) chatter for those awake more than they'd like with a non sleeping baby/child 😊

My DS is five months. First baby likely to be only baby if I don't start getting more sleep He is a nap and sleep fighter but incredibly cute so I choose to forgive him 😂

Hey guys!

First baby,
Boy, 5 months and a little bit
Currently in a decent phase of going to about 3am before first feed.

Tonight he was restless and in bed with my OH and I got the call at 3.55am, the call almost always meaning 'he's hungry so it's your shift now'. Came through to find an almost sleeping baby who slept with me for another fifteen minutes before thrashing about, I'm feeding him just to see if it makes him sleep better!

Had a really weird evening. He had a nap around three for half an hour then twenty minutes later had a hysterical over tired meltdown. He usually does 2 hours between sleeps but lately can be 3!

He slept for another hour and half once I fought him to sleep, was up for nearly two hours and then had a fifty minute nap before I could feed him for bed... didn't go to bed until 9.45 because of that.

He used to be super cranky in the evenings but lately we were having great evenings where he would have a big nap at 4/5/6 and then be up for an hour or two and be jumping in his jumperoo happy as Larry at 8pm, or rolling round the floor squealing and now we seem to be going backwards. He's sleeping more now than before - more at night and the same number/length of naps with more hysterical meltdowns when tired during the day.

Nick Hucknall 🙈

@Sakura03the best thing for poo 💩 stains is sunshine. Although tricky this time of year!

@sleepycat13 I suffer with allergies too. When I get hay fever it is always worse at night time.

HashtagTired · 19/01/2018 04:33

Feed #2 finished about 20 mins ago. Off to find some new dreams hoping mick doesn't appear now!

Emberblu · 19/01/2018 04:41

Wow so many of us newbies. Fed number 2 and it's not going well, he's pulling off and crying a lot. Not sure if slow let down or the teething but he isn't happy!

I get so many odd dreams , I think it's coz we are only in light R.E.M. sleep. In my latest the in laws were looking after ds and I slept for 20 hours straight wipes away wistful tear

Jellybean2017 · 19/01/2018 04:49

@Sakura03 I have been using Shout on the 💩 stains. Usually works. I bought a different one yesterday as on offer so will let you know if it's any good!

DS has been awake every hour even though we are co sleeping. I'm so tired. Signed up to do baby sensory class tomorrow so we actually have to get up and about. At least it's nearly the weekend again. So close to my lay in..!

Didn't get to see DH yesterday really. He was late back from work. Caught a glimpse of him when I popped to the loo! Baby was screaming so DH came down to check we were OK! Although I miss him, I find it better with him in a different bedroom. Sitting up awake and knackered through the night while he was snoring next to me was just soul destroying!

As for washing - I soak anything pooey in a basin of cold water and then wash on 40 with Tesco's own non bio. Generally does the trick. I've used vanish on a couple of things but I don't like to use too much in case it irritates his skin . Eventually the whites do go a little grey but he's usually grown out of them by that point, and his whites are mostly vests for underneath or sleepsuits that only we see so it doesn't matter!

DiscombobulatedWomble · 19/01/2018 04:59

Making sure I don't lose you all..

First time mum here, DD will be 7 weeks Saturday. Ironically tonight has (so far) been one of her best nights.. last feed at 10, in cot by 11, through until 4.15 before next feed, although she is now snorting into my elbow and pummelling my poor boobs rather than being asleep awaiting transfer attempt so I probably shouldn't speak too soon!

All that supposedly in the middle of leap 2 so who knows what's going on Hmm

I too am part of the very odd dream club.. most recent being skating on ice with Phil whatever his last name is, looking down and being in the skimpy outfit complete with mum tum jiggling all over the place, with him then poking it saying hello squishy.. fudge knows what's going on in my head Confused why couldn't it at least have been Channing Tatum poking my flab!

Meepmoop · 19/01/2018 07:12

DS seems to awake for the day but I want more sleep!! He's only done 5 hours since midnight usually he does 7.

actino · 19/01/2018 07:34

Awful night here, I've pretty much been up since 145. After I feed and burp her Dd just will not go into her cot quietly. She grunts and thrashes about and we can't figure out why. She'll sleep silently on her back across my legs but the second I put her in the cot she's making noises and keeping me up.

@actino sounds exhausting. Hope you get a nap today...

@discombobulatedwomble your dream sounds pretty disturbing too! I dreamed I was at a Lemar concert last night so I must have dancing on ice on my mind too 🙈

I'm alive!

DD has been coughing Sad

actino · 19/01/2018 08:07

Thanks, @Jellybean. Unfortunately I have a really full day today, but I will manage.

Can someone tell me how you knew that you didn't need to burp your baby anymore? Is it associated with a certain developmental event, like sitting up, or maybe when they start on solids?

The internet said 4-9 months, but I'd just like to know the cues to look out for.

AMagdalena · 19/01/2018 08:15

@actino I am guessing you'd stop burping bub when they're bringing their own wind up? Generally when they start sitting up, apparently...

Jellybean2017 · 19/01/2018 08:27

@actino DS is five months and I rarely have to burp him now, he usually manages to get his wind up (or down 🙈) a few weeks ago he used to scream and scream when he needed to burp but that's definitely reduced for us.

Glad you're still with us @AMagdalena 😊

This made me chuckle Grin (No offence to anyone on here - I think I'm definitely sweary mum!)

Jellybean2017 · 19/01/2018 08:33

Love it @Whoateallthepercypigs!

I think I will have to become the zany mum... After all we probably all need more Tom Hardy in our lives right now (or in my case Bradley Cooper Blush)

Found you all!
Thanks jellybean
Welcome to all the new joiners :-)
The cast here is
DD1 2 years and 3 months (sleeps at night except for the odd bad dream) DD2 16 weeks (sleeps every couple of hours before farting herself awake), DH (37 years old, sleeps 1am to 10am, hands off approach with spells of brief interest in day time hours)

She slept ok last night except she kept dropping her bloody dummy! Had to sleep walk to the cot every hour and bung it in, and she’d go straight back to sleep. Any tips for this?

Tmgc123 · 19/01/2018 09:08

I stopped burping my wee one when I quit dairy in my diet and it improved her gas and wind no end. Never needs burping, never throws up. I do think all babies are slightly lactose intolerant. Worth a try! X

UtterlyConfused111 · 19/01/2018 09:13

@amagdelena
Hope you’re feeling better! Glad you haven’t resorted to chopping off your own head
@actino
Usually when they can sit up they can bring up their own wind and also the valve at the end of the oesophagus has closed which means no more possetting - or so the doctor told me. DD1 reflux peaked at 4 months and then she gradually got better

@whoateallthepercypigs
Loved it! Think I am combination of OH hater and anxious mum. On that note OH did NOT wake us up last night yay so he is still alive you all will be relieved to hear. He is however snoring away and smells like a distillery....

ValentineFizz · 19/01/2018 09:21

Hi ladies, I've not posted for a while as for the time being DS seems to have cracked the overnight sleep thing 🤞 11 weeks old tomorrow and is now able - and wants to (!) sleep from 10pm through to 5 or 6am - this has been the case for about the last 2 weeks. I am however not counting my chickens as I'm well aware that we're fast approaching the dreaded 4 month sleep regression phase, so I'll continue to lurk here and just bank all the sleep l can get whilst the going's good!

@sakura03 I've found the best thing for poo stains to be fairy liquid, as advised by my DM!

actino · 19/01/2018 09:24

Thanks for the responses, everyone. Just looking for a light at the end of the tunnel (I find burping really tedious).

I'm definitely sweary mom in person.

theotherendofthesockportal · 19/01/2018 09:30

@actino I also find burping tedious. Feeding, nappies etc doesn't bother me. But burping drives me mad, when DH is home I always hand DD over to him for burping, he is much more patient than me.

Tmgc123 · 19/01/2018 09:40

Haha @valentinefizz... that’s the kind of thing you keep quiet so you don’t jinx it 🤣

I’m
Happy for you and incredibly jealous. Nearly 6 months old and doesn’t sleep longer than 1.5-2hrs at a time. Not exaggerating. She just hates sleep!
