New thread for night (and daytime!) chatter for those awake more than they'd like with a non sleeping baby/child 😊

My DS is five months. First baby likely to be only baby if I don't start getting more sleep He is a nap and sleep fighter but incredibly cute so I choose to forgive him 😂

Sleep thief is asleep.
She has taken to thumb sucking and I think it's turning into an obsession.

Meepmoop · 04/02/2018 23:27

Baby is asleep but I'm wide awake. It's my grandparents funeral tomorrow and I am dreading it so it's all I can think about.

Only had 3 hours of broken sleep last night so really need a good night tonight.

@AMagdalena does the thumb sucking help with settling. At one point I was hoping he would suck his thumb as he doesn't like
Dummies.

UtterlyConfused111 · 05/02/2018 02:07

Must be the 4 month regression right?! Please let it be that because I can’t take any more of this. Am having dreams of walking out and just leaving DH to it - something that never happened with DD1.
She’s wide awake again and complaining and I have no fecking idea why

user1489931797 · 05/02/2018 05:13

Help guys I ca t see the wood for the trees!

Second guessing myself...

Morning need some advice/sense check I think because it’s been so long that my LO has been unsettled with reflux and potential CMPA that I don’t know what normal is or should be and whether things can be improved.

He’s currently on ranitidine and nutramigen and has been for 4wks and dosage increased

But he’s still grunty/snorting sounds congested, struggles with a swollen tummy and struggles having bowl movements has a lot of wind both ends that upsets him
Regurgitates and spits up after every feed and a couple times every few days projectile vomits also baby acne flares up on face and neck not sure if related.
Lastly still only manages to sleep in Moses with a wedge for an hour once a day rest of time will only sleep in our arms he’s now 11wks old!

What needs to happen? Is it a diff formula, diff meds, thickener?! Cream for his face?!

Catscatsandmorecats · 05/02/2018 06:55

Oh user you really are at your wit's end. I don't know what to say other than to hang on in there and push to see a peadiatrician, it does sound like meds need reviewing, and you need some practical advice.

Meepmoop thinking if you today, I hope you hour some sleep and I hope the day goes as well as it can do.

Crap night again here, DS2 is really unsettled with his teeth - my second one getting teeth before 5 months - it's hard when they are so little. DS1 is still on French time so needed a poo at 5.15. I'm looking forward to dropping DS1 at nursery but no rest today, we've got swimming and DS2'S third set of immunizations, I'm not looking forward to that one bit.

Hashtag we're not far behind you, DS2 is 5 months on Thursday, he's starting to sit up better and getting interested in food so we got his highchair out so he can get used to sitting at the table. Lord knows how he'll get on with food when he refuses anything but boob but we'll see!

I'm a bit sad he's growing up so fast, we have had to change to the buggy seat from the carry cot and really were jamming him in it far too long, but i didn't want to change to the buggy, he looks too grown up!

flapjackfairy · 05/02/2018 07:39

Definitely ask for a review of meds and to see the gastro team if you havent already done so.
Both my sn kids have v severe reflux and ranitidine is useless to be frank.
Omeprazole based meds are better as they stop the stomach producing so much acid and work much better in our case. So sorry you are having such a rotten time with it all.

user1489931797 · 05/02/2018 07:45

Thanks @Catscatsandmorecats and @flapjackfairy appreciate it!

AMagdalena · 05/02/2018 08:46

@Meepmoop Yes, it does help settle her. She still naps on me, but she falls asleep sucking her thumb more often than not. And the thumb is in her mouth most of the night, too Confused

We were up every 2 hours. God knows why. Hope others had a better night.

Sakura03 · 05/02/2018 12:35

Meepmoop thinking of you, hope they have a good send off Flowers

Having had a couple of crap nights my ds totally surprised me by sleeping from 11pm to 4 am, this has never happened before!!! He grunted a couple of times but settled, I’m so proud of him (and happy that I got some sleep). I don’t expect it to happen again tonight but it’s just great that he can actually go that long without a feed. We got an extra couple of hours after that, so I’ve had enough energy to bake coconut brownies for when my friend and her 3 year old visits this afternoon. Now just need to run the hoover around. In fact it’s been a busy morning as ds had a poosplotion and it was easier to give him a bath than wash him down, now got the washing machine on (when isn’t it on).
The tongue tie practitioner emailed me a copy of the letter she has written to my surgery regarding the doctor I saw who didn’t seem to know the difference in lactose and milk intolerance plus he concluded the bright red blood in ds’ nappies was from my nipples. The letter is really good, so I hope they will take note!

Have your babies had cradle cap? Did you use oil? The HV I saw last week when I took ds into get weighed said I could just leave it. ??

Sakura03 · 05/02/2018 12:38

Ds is 12 weeks today, I can’t believe it😊 I had him weighed last Monday and he’d put on a kilo since the 3rd January going from 4.5-5.5 kg, so considering he’s got a poor latch he’s doing okay!

AMagdalena · 05/02/2018 15:20

@Sakura A kilo is really good!y DD doesn't gain that much weight, but she's been following the 75th centile nicely (born on 91st, lost a loooaad in the 1st few days due to jaundice and pathetic latch).
And your DS is no longer a newborn! Yay!

DD thought she'd be nice to me and let me make a cake. I really need cake in my life, no matter what diet I'm on 😂
We also went out for a walk, so rather productive by AMag household standards 😂

AMagdalena · 05/02/2018 20:05

Everyone asleep already??? 😜

Jellybean2017 · 05/02/2018 20:41

Haha @AMagdalena definitely not here...

OP posts:
Meepmoop · 05/02/2018 20:54

Nearly, I'm doing the hold before the transfer.

Today went well, very surprised at how many people came. There wasn't enough seats so lots stood. Sounds bad to say I didn't think there would be many but they were in there late 80's and the last of their siblings.

I feel exhausted so hoping for a good night. Probably not what I'm going to get.

DiscombobulatedWomble · 05/02/2018 20:59

@AMagdalena I'm in awe of you finding the time & inclination to bake! I am now determined to make coffee cake tomorrow morning for when I do the obligatory work visit tomorrow afternoon!

AMagdalena · 05/02/2018 21:06

We are finally asleep 💪
For now...

@DiscombobulatedWomble It wasnonly a quick cake. I still have to hold DD for naps, so anything I do has to fit round them 🙈

UtterlyConfused111 · 05/02/2018 21:19

Ok going to sleep
Knackered

HashtagTired · 06/02/2018 01:06

Ds has tummy upsets here.
I can hear his tummy making noises and he had two lots of diarrhoea yesterday from 4pm. Seems ok in himself but has a temperature.
We've given calpol and hoping for the best, but just feeding him now I can hear his tummy making those noises again as he's just fallen asleep. Bless him.

Hope he isn't suffering too much. Just given. Him more calpol.

WhoAteAllthePercyPigs · 06/02/2018 01:25

Flowers @meepmoop. Hope you are getting some sleep.

Know what I hate? When you put them down into the cot and they're blissfully fast asleep for ten whole minutes. The kind of sleep where they're so still you're checking if they're breathing. Then - just as you've allied yourself to relax a smidgen and are rearranging the pillows and congratulating yourself- BOOM the eyes snap open like something in a horror film.

Yeah. It's been that kind of night.

Congratulations on the cake @AMagdalena! I made brownies for this morning's playdate but used the wrong baking tin and they got burnt all round the edges. Can't even do a simple brownie mix right 😂

Plus DH and I are on the outsagain...

WhoAteAllthePercyPigs · 06/02/2018 01:26

@hashtagtired hope your DS is ok and improves throughout the night.

HashtagTired · 06/02/2018 01:31

Thanks @WhoAteAllthePercyPigs

And I know exactly what you mean about them lulling you I go a false sense of security. That's the worst kind of torture. Just as head meets pillow, boom! They're awake.
Or just as mind meets dream world, they wake up.

Oh, I can hear more tummy sounds. It doesn't look good for ds tonight. Might have to abort any plans for tomorrow and stay home for cuddles.

WhoAteAllthePercyPigs · 06/02/2018 01:46

I'm doing the same @hashtag with tomorrow - nothing planned so duvet day it is after the nursery run

I'm clearly some kind of masochist as I've attempted cot transfer again. Here we go...

user1489931797 · 06/02/2018 01:52

Evening everyone sorry to hear so many of our LO's are having none of it just hope that at some point they'll wear themselves out...

So @HashtagTired @Catscatsandmorecats
Hi hope you can help shed some light and give your thoughts

Spoke to GP yesterday about how despite baby on ranitidine and nutramigen and still seeing symptoms but GP unsure whether reflux and or CMPA so just targets one at a time now to change, the changes so far have just really been increasing ranitidine because she is reluctant to change formula yet as he is currently constipated she’s advised next 4days increase ranitidine to 1ml x3 a day and lactulose to get things moving as he doesn’t keep down water or water and OJ when he had it pretty much comes straight back up.
I asked what happens if this doesn’t work and she has said one option to add an an anti sickness medicine as baby regurgitates and spit up after every feed and once or twice a week projectile.

Is anti sickness medicine with ranitidine and sticking with nutramigen the way to go?! As I see from most ppl they say what worked was different formula and thickener?! I don’t know what I should be pushing for anymore!

WhoAteAllthePercyPigs · 06/02/2018 01:59

...well that lasted 30 seconds!!

Seriously what the hell am I doing wrong! I just don't understand why he won't settle? I'm at my wits end - the last few nights have been awful. My friend is in hospital with a newborn and I bet she's getting more sleep than me! I absolutely suck at the sleep thing, I just can't get the hang of it. Plus DD is being very clingy and demanding. I haven't got the energy for this. I don't think I can keep doing this.

Plus - swaddling is a load of bollocks! Great when it works but then they grow out of it and you're left with another sleep association - part of the problem is DS waking himself when he flings his arms about! Wish I'd not bothered with it.

Jellybean2017 · 06/02/2018 02:27

Awake here. Took 2 hours to get him to actually go to sleep last night. He's been restless all night so far. He seems to have developed a hatred for his nonsleeping bags so he's layered up in baby gros. Think he's still cold though... Need to find a different sleeping outfit.

Sorry to see so many other bad nights Flowers

He's thrashing about next to me. I just want to sleep 😭
