New thread for night (and daytime!) chatter for those awake more than they'd like with a non sleeping baby/child 😊

My DS is five months. First baby likely to be only baby if I don't start getting more sleep He is a nap and sleep fighter but incredibly cute so I choose to forgive him 😂

Bloody app not paragraphing again, sorry!

Jellybean2017 · 22/01/2018 15:18

Emberblu I agree... You're going to get so stressed out if you keep forcing it and baby isn't ready... I know how frustrating it can be as DS is exactly the same. I have had to significantly drop my housework standards 😂 maybe just try one nap every few days so baby doesn't get overtired? DS 5 months is asleep on me as I type 🙈

DS 5.5 months still up every hour each night, it was 2 hours but for the past week it has been even worse. Family members say he will learn to sleep through better if I’m not in the same room? I’m really not convinced. I am planning to try sleep train at 6 months but don’t want lots of screaming as going down is not the issue it’s staying down. Planning on offering water at each wake up as I think waking for comfort is a big part of it but just winging it at the moment. So exhuasted.

Emberblu · 22/01/2018 15:48

jellybean and realistic mum thanks, I'm sure you're right Sad I just hear of others with babies being put down to nap and sleeping for 2 hours, ds might make an hour on me but that's only with shushing back to sleep! But then won't be put down for long awake either... there's so much pressure to teach them to sleep a certain way and I think I just got scared reading about sleep cycles and the possibility of having to rock him to sleep 6 times a night !
I think I will just try every few days and see if he goes down and try not to stress if he doesn't. He did brilliantly last night so I'll just focus on that for now.

Meepmoop · 22/01/2018 20:26

Quiet this evening! Is everyone sleeping I hope so.

DS is angry this evening, not sure why

Catscatsandmorecats · 22/01/2018 20:31

tmgc123 I have no idea, I wish I did! If I find anything useful in this book I'll let you know when I actually get time to read it

DS1 went off to sleep like s dream this evening. DS2 was trickier with DH and is now feeding to sleep. He's had loads though, maybe he'll have a longer stretch.....

Jellybean2017 · 22/01/2018 20:38

DS has been battling sleep tonight. Think he's finally going so I'm hoping to be asleep soon! Good luck all.

This made me chuckle

And so the night shift begins :(

Already had one wake up and he's so unsettled it won't be long before he's crying again. Just had an argument with OH, it's hard to be nice to each other when we're both so run down. Got a busy week ahead and I feel worn out already! The relentless sleepless nights are such a killer and now he doesn't even stay settled for those first few hours. Sigh.

Good luck everyone. See you in a few hours if I'm lucky

WhoAteAllthePercyPigs · 22/01/2018 21:42

Clocking in for the njghtshift! DH foolishly said 'sleep well' as he headed for a night of uninterrupted sleeping bliss, he's lucky i didn't have a spade to hand..

@xxrealistmum it's so hard to be civil to each other on top of sleep deprivation isn't it? Things that you'd normally overlook become big arguments.

No idea what kind of night I'm in for. DS had a cat nap till 8 so he's very wide awake now. Boobing him and hoping it does the trick cos I am SO ready for sleep.

Good luck all!

UtterlyConfused111 · 22/01/2018 21:45

Night shift begins
Poor baby has caught DD1s cold and is bunged up
Think it’s going to be a bad night; she’s been up twice already
I’ll sleep while I can
See you all at the next wake up....

Jellybean2017 · 22/01/2018 21:55

Ffs I got 30 minutes sleep before he woke. And he napped well today. And DH is out so I'm dealing with it on my own. Feeling increasingly pissed off.

OP posts:
Jellybean2017 · 22/01/2018 21:57

@Whoateallthepercypigs I would have been seething at the "sleep well" too 😒

Tmgc123 · 22/01/2018 22:00

Just had a one hour 45minute wake up... YAY!

And we have a tooth. On a breastfed 5.5 month old baby. Double bloody yay.

Catscatsandmorecats · 22/01/2018 23:04

On wake up 1 here, just feeding, I didn't go to bed so will ask DH to do the dreaded winding otherwise I won't clean my teeth! The extra feeding earlier didn't make him go any longer.

Have been reading more of the no cry sleep solution but so far have only got through the pre amble so have learnt babies are sad when they wake up in bed after a transfer, that if they cry at all we are all evil etc etc. I know it's leasing up to some practical suggestions but seriously, talk about pull on the sleep deprived heart strings!

Meepmoop · 23/01/2018 00:48

Feed 1 complete, DS fed for 30mins. Just had another wake up but managed to get him back to sleep without picking him up! Pure luck but I'm taking it as a win

xxrealistmumxx · 23/01/2018 01:42

Eurgh feed one now progress. He's woken every hour since he went to bed though :(

Eyes burning

Feel like I've been wrenched out of sleep too many times already but still got hours to go.

Feeling pissed off here too jellybean 2017

Catscatsandmorecats I remember reading every book going when sleep thief no.1 was a baby. Unfortunately he couldn't read them so never fell into line with whatever suggestions they had! I tried everything. It was soul destroying. Doesn't stop me from being open to trying whatever anyone can suggest with sleep thief no.2 though

xxrealistmumxx · 23/01/2018 03:05

Going from bad to worse here. Every 30 mins now. He's squirming and crying and tummy gurgling away :(

user1489931797 · 23/01/2018 03:17

Morning everyone!

So despite DS being sick all wknd going into Monday too have sick and spit after every feed and tried adding gaviscon back in and it's not helped at all but decided need to try again getting him in the Moses at night as recently got wedge to help with reflux but so far only managed 10/15 mins here and there during the day.

He managed 1hour from 10pm this night then had a feed , winded and fell asleep on DH shoulder then transferred into Moses again and did almost another hour then a change and I've taken over for my shift DH Gone to bed , I've been giving him a bottle didn't manage much about 2oz did 4oz earlier and now feeding on me.

Considering seeing GP again tomorrow not prepared to go for another week as suggested with DS regurgitating after each feed having so much wind and spit up and him being unhappy I want conclusive test that says if he's CMPA or not and if not deal with something better than gaviscon but if he is intolerant why still being sick on prescribed milk?!

Sorry for rant!

One other thing issue with car seat we have a silvercross simplicity and since day one he's looked scrunched up in it folkard all adjustments etc correctly and bring a first time mum I just assumed that's how they looked in car seat to begin with but 2 months in his chin is pressed against chest and he goes lethargic and pale which MIL and DH aren't convinced of but do agree chin on chest which they can't deny as there was even a pink line across DS chin when hot him out of car seat other day!

Long story short spoke with silvercross customer service who basically said seat might not be suitable for him and agreed that it wasn't right his chin was pressing into his chest and want me to send pics of him in it to them, I desperately need seat and base before weekend as it's his christening 45mins away but knowing that seat def isn't right and is restricting his breathing I feel like it's torture putting him in it! A few ppl in a Facebook group have said that sales ppl in mothercare advised them against the silvercross simplicity seat just wish I'd been warned too!

HashtagTired · 23/01/2018 03:31

I've not been here for the last couple of nights, not because I've been getting lots of sleep. No. Quite the opposite, actually. I've been too tired to read and post. I haven't caught up and probably won't now - this board moves so fast!

Hope you are doing ok despite the sleepless nights.

Ds has developed the most awful sound! I can only describe it as a cross between:

  • someone scratching their nails down a chalkboard, with
  • someone sitting on and squashing a cat, with
  • the sound of someone strangling ds

When he does it, he's perfectly happy in himself and all smiles, so not in distress. I think he's just playing with his voice but my goodness I was getting some funny looks in the shops today! Maybe that's his plan, to keep me at home form cuddles!! Sly little monkey.

He's fast asleep in the Snüzpod next to me. Blissful. Sooooo gorgeous. So peaceful. But I need to shake myself out of that and go have a wee and bag some more sleep.

GinUnicorn · 23/01/2018 03:34

I get too tired to post but this thread is comforting to read. I'm not alone!

Zampa · 23/01/2018 04:08

DD2 would not go to sleep last night. Eventually got her off at 2330 and she's slept for 4 hours. Whoop! Fully expecting the rest of the night to be poor but good first half.

Sorry to hear so many of you are struggling tonight.

DD1 also seems to be quiet. She threw up twice yesterday so think that sickness has knocked her out. Dreading having them both at home today as smallest has her immunisations and will no doubt be fussy.

88mph · 23/01/2018 04:18

Sorry it's tough for everyone, though it's definitely nice knowing you're not the only one!

My non sleeper is even worse at the moment because he's got slapped cheek syndrome and conjunctivitis. It's been a never-ending run of viruses since December. I'm also recovering from a nasty chest infection and now in the early stages of conjunctivitis too! Even 2 hours in a row seems a distant memory now, definitely feeling sorry for myself tonight.

UtterlyConfused111 · 23/01/2018 04:20

Morning all
@whoateallthepercypigs
“Sleep well”!!!!
Hahahaha
They really don’t have a fucking clue do they!
I haven’t slept more than a 2 hour stretch now for a few days due to dummy dropping but it’s been ok otherwise. If DH did the 1030 dream feed I’d get 4-5 hours straight if I went to bed at 9 but he won’t do it. Tw@t. Will take him away from whatever movie he is watching.

Baby very uncomfortable with the bunged up nose and keeps getting up. Just had a small feed, a poo, and I’ve used some baby Vicks and saline spray to clear her nose. She still sounds so congested poor little love; squirming and twisting. Not much sleep for me tonight..

I hope DD1 settles at preschool tomorrow. Have had to go get her early last couple of times...

Zampa · 23/01/2018 04:21

One failed cot transfer and a crying DD1 later ...
