Awake with newborn, anyone else? :)

My little boy is nine days old. He sleeps pretty well during the day but at night just wants to be held and breastfed. He doesn't settle in his moses basket at night (but he will quite often do so during the day)

Anyone else up doing the same?! I'm not keen on the idea of co-sleeping but would be grateful for any advice. Baby sleeps in a gro-snug and we have a dream sheep but I'm guessing this frequent feeding and love of cuddles in the night is probably just par for the course at this early stage? 😊 I am napping during the day so I'm probably averaging about 6 hrs sleep in a 24 hr period.

The thunder just woke me and my 2 month old up 😠

Jellybean2017 · 15/08/2017 03:49

Hi Janika 😊 sleep deprivation is the worst whatever the reason! Hope you're better soon.

Oh no thunder here yet, maybe it's on its way..!

Only had lightning here thought it was a dodgy lamppost! 5 week cough think poss nearing the end....
Bored of it now.

Jellybean2017 · 15/08/2017 04:02

5 week cough does not sound fun, especially if it's keeping you awake. Hopefully it's on its way out! I have a snoring baby and a snoring husband so not sure I will be getting much more sleep tonight 😂

I do remember the no sleep tho for the babies. Oh joy. It will pass....really it will!

Janika · 15/08/2017 04:04

Record them on your phone.

Jellybean2017 · 15/08/2017 04:11

Good plan! 😂 husband is usually a sleep talker so at least I haven't got that to contend with... Yet!

It is tiring, but I'm amazed how quickly I have adjusted to being basically nocturnal haha! And holding my little boy in my arms makes the lack of sleep worthwhile 😍

Yes definitely - feel that still at 21 and 19 years old. Cuddles abound here!

Janika · 15/08/2017 04:19

Not at night obvs!

FlipperSkipper · 15/08/2017 04:20

A tip from my midwife was when you lift the baby out of the crib / Moses basket put s hot water bottle in there so they're not going back to a cold bed. This really helped us.

Janika · 15/08/2017 04:24

I remember doing that- yes it did help a lot.
Stopped coughing now but having a hot flush instead which is much more funGrin

OuchBollocks · 15/08/2017 05:00

DS had a feed at 3.30, I couldn't get back to sleep because my ankle hurts, then DS (who is 5 months and should know better) decided 4.45am is a good time to start the day Shock wee sod. He'll probably try to go back to sleep around 7 when DD gets up, so this is me for the day Sad

Lallypopstick · 15/08/2017 05:02

Feeding again. He went down at about 2.30am so we got a couple of hours. Not bad! He's fallen asleep on the boob now. Let's see if he stirs.

Hot water bottle idea is good - sometimes during the day we use a heated wheat bag and put that in, which is far easier when I'm downstairs near a microwave.

For anyone who needs some motivational words xxx

Jellybean2017 · 15/08/2017 05:21

We are awake for more milk! Well he has had some more and fallen asleep again before I can offer the other side! 🙈 ahh the motivational words were appreciated lauramcd86! Ouch it must be 10x harder when you have other children to keep occupied too! I guess it's important for us first time mum's to take full advantage of being able to rest when they baby is sleeping!

Love it Grin** awake since 230 here with endless feeding puking feeding puking. Aghhhhhhhh!!! 3 babygro changes during the night. Daytime sleeping has messed us right up tonight! Hope everyone else's nights sleep went a lot better x

NinaMarieP · 15/08/2017 06:23

I'm feeding again now but we've had five whole hours sleep 😍😍 just told him he's my favourite baby ever haha

Absolutely poured milk all over his poor face while trying to get him latched on as well, that's the longest I've ever gone without feeding him.

Lallypopstick · 15/08/2017 07:25

Wow Laura I normally find stuff like that a bit twee, but it made me tear up. Thank you for sharing it, I needed it.

Great news Nina. We had a much better night than the one before, though not as good as yours. He just woke up again so I've had a couple of 2 hours stints. Let's see how we get on tonight!

Jellybean2017 · 15/08/2017 09:09

Well done everyone 😊 I think I have had about 4 or 5 hours sleep in total so definitely can't complain! Nap this afternoon will still be needed!

You know you're a parent when 5 hours sleep is a great night 😁

Tatlerer · 15/08/2017 21:38

Ladies, I stumbled across this thread and wanted to say how brilliantly you are all doing. I was a slave to the sleep boards when DD was little (she's 3 now) as her sleep as a baby was atrocious and I felt like utter crap all the time- a heady combination of severely sleep deprived and convinced I was doing something wrong. I appreciate not all of you are first-time mums so please don't think me patronising- but when I was going through it all I just wanted to hear that it would get better and it does...it really does. Enjoy your snuggles xx

Jellybean2017 · 15/08/2017 23:19

Thank you so much Tatlerer, that's really lovely to read 😊
