Awake with newborn, anyone else? :)

My little boy is nine days old. He sleeps pretty well during the day but at night just wants to be held and breastfed. He doesn't settle in his moses basket at night (but he will quite often do so during the day)

Anyone else up doing the same?! I'm not keen on the idea of co-sleeping but would be grateful for any advice. Baby sleeps in a gro-snug and we have a dream sheep but I'm guessing this frequent feeding and love of cuddles in the night is probably just par for the course at this early stage? 😊 I am napping during the day so I'm probably averaging about 6 hrs sleep in a 24 hr period.

Sounds like we are all having a difficult night. Some nights are harder than others. Last night I felt kind of jolly being awake all night but tonight I would love to be reclined in bed snooozing away.

Csd17 · 16/10/2017 01:49

Anyone’s baby in leap 2? I’m hoping this has something to do with frequent night wakings.

AMagdalena · 16/10/2017 03:25

6hr stretch and a poo Grin
Not complaining. It really does get better, ladies Smile

Lallypopstick · 16/10/2017 04:56

Things got better for me and now they’re worse again! Babies are all so different, and things can change in an instant.

Csd17 · 16/10/2017 06:51

Yes. It seems there is no point in accepting that any one thing our baby does is routine or going to be a lasting change. They won’t be newborn forever. I don’t know how people do this alone. And I most certainly don’t know how people do this with multiple babies. AND I don’t know how you mamas do it with other children in tow too.

Csd17 · 16/10/2017 06:51

Ps: Great news AMag!!

HashtagTired · 16/10/2017 07:18

And battling a cold too. Itchy, swollen eyes, sore throat, sneezing, cough forming, head bunged. Windy baby, tired me. But it’s morning now, so I’ve got a 5yo to walk to school .... ZZzzzz

AMagdalena · 16/10/2017 10:56

It was a good night indeed! 6hrs then 2 and another 2!
But no 2 nights are the same, let's remember 😅

Hats off to the mums with older kids to look after. I don't think I could cope.

GinUnicorn · 16/10/2017 19:09

Let's hope for a good one tonight all :)

NinaMarieP · 16/10/2017 21:08

We’ve now had 3 nights in 4 where we’ve gone from 7ish to 2ish. Fingers are crossed it will keep going.

I’m absolutely terrified of this fourth month regression though and we’re only at 2.5m.

AMagdalena · 16/10/2017 21:27

Gin let's hope you didn't jinx it Grin

Nina that's amazing! A really decent chunk of sleep there!
We're nearly at 3 months and I am not particularly worried about this 4 month regression. DD has never been consistent enough for me to get used to decent sleep, so we'll just have to ride it out...Grin

Just put DD down and she woke up 2 minutes later or so...only to self settle soon after Shock This sort of thing doesm't happen in this household. It's normally boob-sleep-transfer to the cot

GinUnicorn · 16/10/2017 22:32

Magda I am doing a mad counter jinx dance now!

Hopefully mine will settle soon. She's 3 weeks old and refuses to nap in the day. She's been awake since 7am so should be knackered

Lelly0503 · 16/10/2017 22:41

Hi all I have a 6 week old. Sleep is not great but from what I’ve read fairly normal. He sleeps in the day around 3 times for about 1.5hrs. He tends to feed 3 x at night, around now, 3ish, then 5/6ish. He’s very noisy when he sleeps I think it’s a self soothing thing as he doesn’t do it when being held, sometimes that keeps us awake. I’m hoping we will lose the 3am feed soon so we can get a longer stretch!

Csd17 · 17/10/2017 01:31

Nina, what a wonderful stretch of sleep for your tiny one. Im trying not to think about the four month sleep regression.

Did anyone find that as their child got older, night feeds are quicker? My boy is already asleep on me after his feed and idk whether to wake him for him to have the other side or just try and transfer him back to his crib. Mum dilemma.

Csd17 · 17/10/2017 01:31

Lelly, hope you lose that 3am feed. It would make such a difference.

Csd17 · 17/10/2017 01:32

AMag, congrats on baby’s self soothing tonight!! We are almost exclusively a boob to crib household. Gina Ford would hate me.

Csd17 · 17/10/2017 01:34

Gin, you must be so tired. Your little one might be going through a growth spurt which may explain the lack of daytime sleep. I hope you get some sleep.

GimbleInTheWabe · 17/10/2017 01:47

I’m joining the club here! My DS is a mere 6 days old now. We’re back in hospital actually as he is being treated for a poss (but looking like v unlikely) infection (Fx for discharge tomorrow!). Anyway he had a really good feed which ended about 1hr 10mins ago , then slept for about 45 mins and now won’t settle at all. I changed his nappy which was dirty and winded him and he was a bit refluxy but now he’s hiccuping away and making grumbly noises and doesn’t seem settled. The lovely nurse helped by raising the bed but he won’t keep his eyes closed.

NinaMarieP · 17/10/2017 02:10

Tonight was 6.30-1.30 so we’re now at 4/5 nights.

I’m finding my LO feeds quicker now @Csd17. He used to take 20 minutes each side then it dropped to 15 and now it’s more like 10 at 10 weeks. He pretty much always is both sides still though.

AMagdalena · 17/10/2017 02:13

Csd Gina Ford would totally hate me, too, but it's so easy (and nice).

Gimble welcome to the gang.
I remember the 45 min sleep cycles. They are so annoying and do pass!

We're up. I got a lovely present from DD Hmm

GimbleInTheWabe · 17/10/2017 02:21

Thanks @AMagdalena. I ended up feeding him in the end and he probably went for about 10 mins. Fell asleep on the boob and is now asleep on the hospital bed. Maybe he’s just really really hungry tonight?! And this time he’ll sleep for hours.

How kind of DD to give you a gift!

HashtagTired · 17/10/2017 03:44

Feeding my 6 week old.

A wind sufferer so he often farts himself awake. Currently he’s feeding every 2 hours so if he settles quickly after feeds I might get a 45 min stretch of rest before he wakes again. It’s hard work isn’t it!!

k567 · 17/10/2017 05:01

It IS hard work.

My 9 week old won’t settle. I’ve tried all the usual stuff but he is howling. Wish I knew what he wants so I can give it to him.

Milliemoo37 · 17/10/2017 05:04

2wk old just hasn't settled for me really all day. He had about a 3hr nap when it was Daddy's turn after work, so I slept then but I've been up rest of morning with him.
He's fallen asleep on me now and I darent move.

NinaMarieP · 17/10/2017 05:14

We are up again but when he started crying I lay there thinking ‘but I just put you down’. Nope, it’s 5am and he went down at 2.30! How time flies when you’re sleeping between feeds!

45 minutes would about kill me I think. Thankfully we have never fed as offer as 2hourly that I can think of.
