Guys

Just wanted to start a thread about why everybody loves Skiing, thought it would be good as Winter setting in.

Mine are - watching daughter fly past me down a slope !! :) The fresh crisp mountain air, we ski in March/April so generally sunshine!

Evenings, good food and wine with friends an open roaring fire whilst the children play!! Ahhh Bliss :)

Ah yes, but now I'm stressing big-time, as there's more snow due and snow chains are obligatory at the moment. We have them, but not relishing putting them on At. All. We will be practising here later on.

Superking · 16/02/2015 07:12

4 weeks today we will be hitting the slopes, can't wait! I love spring skiing, we have been really lucky with weather/ snow conditions in the past so fingers crossed that will continue. Last year there was a huge dump overnight on the day we arrived, we woke the next day to sunshine and powder. I don't actually ski powder very well but it was just amazing to look at (and good practice!)

Hope all those heading out for half term have fun and leave some snow for meeeeeee!

Have fun all you lot!

We were supposed to be skiing yesterday and today but we have a horrible fluey bug. And Cairngorm was stormbound yesterday anyway!

DontGotoRoehampton · 16/02/2015 11:24

clam where are you going? (actually guess you are now en route....) did you need the chains?

LemonEmmaP · 16/02/2015 11:25

We spent two weeks in Austria over Christmas and New Year ... We went from green fields and mostly closed runs, to big snow dumps and lousy visibility. It wasn't our most successful trip!

However, I've booked a cheeky week away to St Anton with friends in March...child free for the first time in years. Can't wait! I'll miss the family, but it will be like a blast from the past to ski in just adult company once more...

Alibabsandthe40Musketeers · 16/02/2015 11:30

clam where are you going? we drove back this weekend and although there was a lot of snow the roads were clear.

Have fun!

Seriouslyffs · 16/02/2015 16:44

Oh you lucky things! There's a tiny chance I might get a day's skiing in this year- DH and DS are in La Plagne, driving back on Sunday, I can see a super cheap flight to Chambery but I'm shocked at the transfer- I'm going to start a new thread but does anyone have any top tips for getting up the for less than the price of a kidney?

MeanwhileHighAboveTheField · 16/02/2015 18:42

There are car sharing websites/facebook pages :)

MeanwhileHighAboveTheField · 01/03/2015 18:27

How is the skiing going? :)

DontGotoRoehampton · 02/03/2015 06:57

Am in 3V - luckily go here before the hell that was Saturday transfer day. Should have not been hell - although it is the last week of (staggered) French school holidays so still classified 'rouge' ie congested going towards the mountains not as bad as the UK half term transfer day in Feb.
The reason was that some massive boulders fell on the road on Friday leading up to Val T & Les Menuires, and people heading there ignored all the (all day) warnings on Bison Fute and French radio AND all the motorway signs to stop and stay in Dijon or Lyon till the next day, and basically brought Moutiers and Albertville to a complete (literally) standstill with jams back to Chambery. So even the many more people aiming for all the other resorts were stick because of the selfishness of the ValT/Menuires peeps.

CaurnieBred · 02/03/2015 14:13

So, booked St Anton for next year (and just found out that when we are going is going to be the German half term - Fasching(?) - joy). Will be our last time with Esprit. Also started investigating what we will need to do to get a reasonably priced trip in 2017 when we will need to go at half term for the first time.

I find I can cope more easily if I know when I going for my next trip.

Radiatorvalves · 02/03/2015 14:22

I am off on Thursday for a long weekend. Southern French alps. Can't wait! Lots of snow but weather forecast looks good. Please don't make me fight the snow chains again!

DontGotoRoehampton · 02/03/2015 14:49

CaurnieBred
completely agree! even tho' I am actually in the alps, can only face the journey home knowing I have sketchy plans for next trip Grin

MeanwhileHighAboveTheField · 03/03/2015 19:28

You lucky lot - I've never skied outside Scotland!

Looks like a lull in the wind tomorrow, and the kids are doing a school ski race so it is skiing for us Grin Grin

Radiatorvalves · 11/03/2015 14:52

Had an amazing weekend with friends. Fab snow and lots of sun. Reckon we clocked up over 100km over 3 days. Great fun!

MeanwhileHighAboveTheField · 11/03/2015 15:18

Lucky thing!

lovetoskimum · 30/03/2015 14:40

glacierchick · 30/03/2015 16:30

Me me me me! waves Off to Geilo on Saturday. Can. Not. Wait Grin

surreygoldfish · 30/03/2015 17:55

aargh....anyone else enjoying the rain/ sleet/snow in the alps at the moment. We're in St Anton and no sign of any dun all week:( Tested how water proof our kit was ( or not in some cases) of the ski kit!! And DH thought I was being unreasonable to ski a black as first run of the day. Aagh

jo164 · 30/03/2015 19:38

Sorry to hear about your rain surreygoldfish...We're enjoying the lovely fresh snow up in the Arctic circle in Finland :-) Hope you get some better weather!

PatriciaHolm · 30/03/2015 23:00

Decent snow in sainte Foy today; rain too but snow on the top!

lovetoskimum · 31/03/2015 10:36

Oh loving the fact that more snow, what are the roads like as driving out on Good Friday.

:):)

PatriciaHolm · 31/03/2015 15:08

Roads clear; snow is forecast but it's likely to fall as rain on the roads but snow on the top of the mountains.

lovetoskimum · 31/03/2015 15:55

Thanks Patricia, slight excited is an understatement !!

Just wish had more than a week !!!!
