Guys

Just wanted to start a thread about why everybody loves Skiing, thought it would be good as Winter setting in.

Mine are - watching daughter fly past me down a slope !! :) The fresh crisp mountain air, we ski in March/April so generally sunshine!

Evenings, good food and wine with friends an open roaring fire whilst the children play!! Ahhh Bliss :)

Jackson snow in Avoriaz is OK. Lower parts of PdS are not. There is still some skiing to be had but you have to pick your runs. It's sunny though!!

SignoraLiviaBurlando · 07/01/2015 18:32

Yes - good that it is sunny! Today was better in Meribel because there were fewer peeps - no lift Qs at all.

UniS · 07/01/2015 19:58

Jackson . If you plan on swimming at Morzine Leisure centre, no baggy shorts allowed, speedos/short trunks/ jammers only for boys & men. Actually, I'm not certain about jammers , don't know what they are called in france and my informant lives in Morzine, she thought they would be Ok based on description.

Quick question about transfers. We are going to St Anton with Esprit, so flying to Salzburg. For the toddler I'm assuming just hope for the best with the coach seat belts but is it worth taking the baby car seat? We normally use an umbrella stroller but we could try and borrow a car seat buggy frame instead, except I was planning to put the baby in a sling for the airport leaving the stroller for the toddler with the long airport walks.

JacksonBrodie · 09/01/2015 09:37

Oh yes, I had forgotten the joy of speedos. We had that at a French campsite a few years ago. Luckily they sold the shorts style ones, way more attractive than budgie smugglers.
What about little'uns? Are they allowed to wear little shorts length wetsuits? That's what DS wears normally for swimming classes in UK.

PatriciaHolm · 09/01/2015 11:55

shorts wetsuits should be fine, it's about making sure no-one wears shorts they could have been wearing outside in them - the baggy type that could be possibly day shorts as well. That won't apply for a toddler wetsuit!

juneau · 09/01/2015 14:44

UniS - Many coaches don't have seat belts, so don't assume that yours will. We had a crappy transfer from Geneva to Les Gets with Ski Famille on a coach with our 10-month-old and 4-year-old with no seat belts. IMO it was dangerous, to say nothing of stressful! We ended up paying for a private transfer on the way back in a minibus with child seats so we could avoid the same situation. Lesson learned: always check with the company what the transfer arrangements will be. Never assume!

juneau · 09/01/2015 14:45

Sorry - that was for drspouse

Phoenixfrights · 09/01/2015 16:03

Car seats won't fit safely on coach seats - they're not designed for use on a coach.

Unfortunately, it's usually just coach with seatbelts, if that.

I wouldn't take a car seat frame unless it has very large off-road type wheels. If you're with esprit, the nursery will have its own snow-ready buggies for taking the babies out.

If there's snow in the resort, an umbrella stroller will be of limited use as they don't push in the snow. They're good for the airport though.

drspouse · 09/01/2015 22:24

Yes the umbrella stroller is only for the airport. I'll give Esprit a ring on Monday. With DD being in an infant seat, it seems hard to get private taxis that have them, I've got a minicab with a toddler seat provided before though.

drspouse · 19/01/2015 21:29

We are in St Anton, having a good time so far, we both went out cross country today but a bit of a concession on the part of DH and he's off on downhill tomorrow. Everyone is very rude about me doing cross country though the reps are helpful and I'm looking forward to a day in a lovely quiet valley with no crowds tomorrow!

UniS · 19/01/2015 21:34

Its snowing in Morzine. We are sking on fields that were green last week.

Meitimoo · 19/01/2015 22:40

Good to hear you are enjoying yourself drspouse! Smile

Superking · 31/01/2015 14:43

Thought I would join and bump this thread up as I need somewhere to share my excitement and DH is getting bored of me! We have just booked a week in Chatel in March. It will be our second time with Snowfocus after an amazing trip last year (I saw a couple of other posters on the thread were skiing with them this year as well).
Last year was a bit of a last minute decision but this time I have a lot more time to get even more excited! I just love the food, the wine, the fresh air, oh and the skiing of course! Plus my sister lives out there so I will get to see lots of her which will be fab.
Looks like anyone off this weekend is in for some amazing conditions, enjoy!

lovetoskimum · 02/02/2015 12:12

Was Caz1379, changed name as changed over email address, but I started this thread !!

Nine weeks to go for me, can not stop talking about Skiing !!!

More stories please XX :)

Iamblossom · 02/02/2015 15:17

come on snow you can do it!

Morzine at half term, Can. Not. Wait.

CaurnieBred · 02/02/2015 15:23

I am sad now as we have been and that is us until next year. Thinking of St Anton with Esprit next January: anybody been with them since they have done up the Chalet?

We had a fabulous time in Gressoney: if only someone had bothered to warn me about the squat toilets that abound in the mountain restaurants - even in the one used by Esprit for the kids' lunches! Squatting in ski boots and sallopettes wasn't as bad as I first thought it was going to be, but if I had known I would have taken/practiced with my She-Wee. Plus I could have got DD to have a bit of a practice on her technique.

bigTillyMint · 02/02/2015 15:25

Iamblossom, they have had a load over the last week in the Morzine area - my friend lives up there!

I am panicking about driving on the first Saturday of half-term. It's going to be awfulSad

Iamblossom · 03/02/2015 10:08

bigTillyMint - so I have heard, brilliant! Hope it lasts till half term!! You are brave driving - we are flying out on the Sunday....

bigTillyMint · 06/02/2015 09:02

We were meant to be flying. Till the airline cancelled the flights outboundSad

massistar · 06/02/2015 09:55

Ski conditions are looking amazing everywhere! Squeeeeal. One week tomorrow till we go!

trixymalixy · 07/02/2015 08:22

We're off this afternoon. Can't wait!! Had a wee refresher at the snowdome the other night which has got me really excited for a week of skiing.

Just got DS's karate grading to get out of the way first. I can't believe they picked the first weekend of the Scottish half term to have it on. Loads of people will be away!

PatriciaHolm · 07/02/2015 19:40

DH is in Sainte Foy right now and apparently conditions are just perfect.

I'm not seething with jealousy or anything. ??

clam · 14/02/2015 18:51

Yoohoo! Anyone about? I need someone to come and give me a slap for being a spoilt brat.
I posted a while back on here saying I was happy because we'd managed to book a shortened week for half term, leaving Monday instead of Saturday, having thought we wouldn't make it at all.
Which is lovely, except it's the day we "should" have gone, and our friends buggered off ahead of us this morning and have arrived in the resort to a shedload of snow and will be about to head off to a rustic mountain restaurant for a raclette or bourguignon or something. Envy I'm stuck here, with all the packing yet to do, with dh watching more bloody sport.

I CAN'T WAIT ANY LONGER. 48 hours to go!

CaurnieBred · 15/02/2015 08:02

I'm jealous and I've already been this year. Enjoy it when you get there and be glad you missed the mad traffic yesterday.
