Mumsnet TV show starring Mumsnetters ready to view. Please tell us what you think...

You may remember at the end of 2009 we asked for volunteers to be filmed having the Mumsnet hair cut and take part in a Mumsnet TV makeover etc. Well the final cut of the first Mumsnet e-TV magazine show is now up and ready to view (and before we go any further there's definitely a starring role/Mumsnet book/our undying gratitude for anyone who can think up a snappier title for the show. Anything other than Mumsnet Magazine TV show would be an improvement).

Made for Mumsnetters and starring - who else - Mumsnetters, the current plan is that this will be a regular show bringing you all the MN staples - AIBU, beauty tips, MN makeovers, sleb interviews, some political stuff - the works.

This episode is a trial run to see what works (and what doesn't). We already have an idea of what doesn't work (mostly any time MNHQ get involved/appear ) but we think you'll agree that the Mumsnetters are great - absolutely star material.

You can find the show in the MNTV slot on the right hand side of the page on Chat, AIBU, Site Stuff, webchats, Telly addicts, competitions and active conversations. Please take a minute (or seven) to have a look and then tell us what you think of it. All suggestions and feedback welcome (but do be gentle with us...). Oh and don't forget a name for the show.

Thanks and enjoy,

MNHQ

The MN haircut does work on curly hair, but you have to brush out our hair into a big ball of fluff, try to hold it straight while you cut it, then wash it before you see the full glory (it doesn't look good when you first let it down). A demonstration would have been better with straight hair. Michele has lovely hair, but she will discover that it has been cut wonky because she didn't scrape it enough into the ponytail.

Well, if I lived in an area where broadband was available, I might be able to watch and tell you . . . . !!

AitchTwoOhOneOh · 18/01/2010 22:51

gosh you are all so lahndan.

MsMaryWollstonecraft · 18/01/2010 22:55

what bibbity said

-the lazy meeja "take" on mn seems to be that we are all bitchy banal idiots obsessed with biscuits and Mum Stuff

this doesn't do much to dispel it imo, and doesn't bear much resemblance to the site I spend every spare minute on visit...

Aren't there enough makeover shows as it is? (sort of reminds me of Alan Partridge's pitch to Tony Hares- Partridge [after reeling off list of regional crime series]- "what does this say to you about regional crime series?" Tony Hares- "there's too many of them?" Partridge- "or- everyone likes them- let's make some more!")

I did like the haircut and the eyelash curlers tho. Seemed a bit more Mumsnet and less This Morning than the rest of it

MsMaryWollstonecraft · 18/01/2010 22:55

PS if you could get Extended on then I'd change my tune

HinnyPet · 18/01/2010 23:09

I liked it, I thought the Will Young interview was well lit and well shot but the three Mums looked very uncomfortable.

Fashion was poo.
AIBU child shots were good but the dark room shots were not.

Mamazon looked like a laugh. More of that kind of gossipy thing please.

Perhaps the Loose Women type show would be a good idea, but get a bit more of the length and breadth of the country on eh? We're not all from "darn sarf"

MamaG · 18/01/2010 23:13

agree that MNers looked good, but what was the point

agree that logo is a big wank

think you should call it Mumsbox

MamaG · 18/01/2010 23:14

or even a bit wank, rather than a big wank!

MollieO · 18/01/2010 23:14

I thought it was grear. I learned a lot. Particularly the mumsnet haircut. I now know that I would never attempt it unless I had a hairdresser's appointment booked within the hour. Michelle looked like a lovely lady but her post-haircut hair looked as if it had been chewed by a dog.

MollieO · 18/01/2010 23:14

grear?? great

AitchTwoOhOneOh · 18/01/2010 23:19

mumsbox is a pretty good name i think.

MamaG · 18/01/2010 23:20

I'll have a toddler book. Thanks.

AitchTwoOhOneOh · 18/01/2010 23:20

well, fanjo is a euphemism, lest we forget.
and i think that makes mumsbox even better.

cheesesarnie · 18/01/2010 23:27

think everyone involved looked fab but it was a little...boring.not very mn.

liked will young interview though.hes a bit lovely.

MamaG · 18/01/2010 23:27

That's rather the point, actually. It's very Mumsnetty isn't it

MamaG · 18/01/2010 23:28

(I'm talking about mumsbox btw)

Ronaldinhio · 19/01/2010 00:17

not wishing to be a nay sayer but I'd really rather we didn't do a "loose women" type thing
I think that that is best for nethuns

I think we are all a bit brighter and better than that and I don't want the perception of us (wimmin) further dumbed down in anyway

thumbwitch · 19/01/2010 00:17

Didn't like the style bit much, especially the stairs shot - but if you're going to do it, at least tell us where the outfits are from (or is that advertising?) I did like the cardigan that Princess Toadstool ended up in.

The AIBU was quite funny but too many repeated close up shots of child and grape. Expand it for interest - have a shop assistant's POV, that kind of thing

Style was good - not convinced Michelle's hair was that much better after though! Looked a bit rats'taily to me, and I used to have similar hair.

The interview was good though!

What about MumsView as a name?

BitOfFun · 19/01/2010 00:32

MumsView is good- I like it.

The Loose Women reference is only to the format- we would be MUCH better at it.

hobbgoblin · 19/01/2010 00:36

Michelle's mate is a sadist "gwooooooan cut some more off!"

Fire the photographer unless you could use him/her for a TV version of the sex technics thread - Good job Mars had tights on, plus hopefully knickers cos that was some serious upskirt filming at certain points. Sorry, mars.

I think it's great if going for the Richard & Judy look, pre when they attempted to go all intellectual with their book group stuff and move from ITV.

I would prefer a more polished version of this genre, personally. Otherwise, a pastiche of crap daytime tV that is v.v. obviosu satirical.

solo · 19/01/2010 00:43

Erm...I just have a blank box that has MNTV, but no film...

spookycharlotte121 · 19/01/2010 02:05

Why did I not get invited to drool over interview will young? Will if your reading this... i will have your babies!!!

I loved mamazon.... she looked lots of fun and is gorgeous!!!

I think the whole thing had potential but was very lacking in places.
The filming on the make over wsa shite! I think it would work in a house setting but only if it was very modern and open plan.... like if someone had a big kitchen living area.... you could use manakins kinda like how they do in 10 years younger when they stlye them then re-introduce the ladies once changed and give opinions on the new look.

I thought that the graphics looked like something from a project I might haave done at school on power point. They really need sorting out coz they looked really cheep and amaturish!

AIBU was hilarious!!!! Im still sniggering now.

I agree with the others. the format wasnt great. If you had a panel of women for discussion you could cut to clips of fashion, cooking, beauty tips, cleaaning etc. theres loads of scope but it needs more work and moeny put into it. hth

ButterPie · 19/01/2010 02:36

NEEDS MORE POLITICS!!!

I come on mumsnet because it isn't full of the froth you find on other "women's" sites. We do sometimes talk about crap, but in an intelligent way. Those bits could have been good as part of a larger programme, but alone they are just the same dumbed down stuff that men without kids have been doleing out to mums for years.

Make little documentaries, or I like the question time/loose women cross idea.

It needs to be aimed more at mumsnetters, not just women in general. Look at what the site does well- support, arguing, making this face
