Mumsnet TV show starring Mumsnetters ready to view. Please tell us what you think...

You may remember at the end of 2009 we asked for volunteers to be filmed having the Mumsnet hair cut and take part in a Mumsnet TV makeover etc. Well the final cut of the first Mumsnet e-TV magazine show is now up and ready to view (and before we go any further there's definitely a starring role/Mumsnet book/our undying gratitude for anyone who can think up a snappier title for the show. Anything other than Mumsnet Magazine TV show would be an improvement).

Made for Mumsnetters and starring - who else - Mumsnetters, the current plan is that this will be a regular show bringing you all the MN staples - AIBU, beauty tips, MN makeovers, sleb interviews, some political stuff - the works.

This episode is a trial run to see what works (and what doesn't). We already have an idea of what doesn't work (mostly any time MNHQ get involved/appear ) but we think you'll agree that the Mumsnetters are great - absolutely star material.

You can find the show in the MNTV slot on the right hand side of the page on Chat, AIBU, Site Stuff, webchats, Telly addicts, competitions and active conversations. Please take a minute (or seven) to have a look and then tell us what you think of it. All suggestions and feedback welcome (but do be gentle with us...). Oh and don't forget a name for the show.

Thanks and enjoy,

MNHQ

The programme seems a bit like a home-made video. It's all a bit close-up and wobbly

And the presenter on the make-over bit is very annoying, dump him.

I think the idea of making it a bit more like a loose women format is a good one.

IcedBum · 19/01/2010 14:04

I shouldn't worry about that if I were you, Bonsoir, the only people likely to think about such things are those who are uncomfortable with their own status, so I don't really see the relevance of your comment.

Please don't leave over such a nasty remark. Please please don't. Nice people should stay. You are lovely. Stay.

Lizzylou · 19/01/2010 14:23

Lady, don't be so daft, you were fab.

Take no heed of bitchiness, someone who needs to make disparaging remarks like that really isn't worth leaving MN for.

LowLevelWhingeing · 19/01/2010 14:26

No Lady, don't go!! Bonsoir is not representative of the rest of us and has clearly been dragged up to display such sheer bloody nastiness.

IcedBum · 19/01/2010 14:29

It was ill-bred and mannerless but I am sure Bonsoir will have sufficient self-awareness to apologise.

theyoungvisiter · 19/01/2010 14:30

wow - what a horrible, catty remark Bonsoir. I suggest you report it and get it deleted before any more of the lovely, courageous people in the video see it.

I thought the MNers were FAB - I just wished their voices could have shone through more.

BigTillyMint · 19/01/2010 14:33

Bonsoir, was your comment meant to be funny?

BaronessBarbaraKingstanding · 19/01/2010 14:34

For fucks sake Bonsoir your clunking crassness often makes you come across as thick as two very short planks, and this would appear to be one of those occasions.

You very occasionally make an insightful comment but more often your horizons and thinking are demonstrated as very limited.

I don't care if this is personal, your ignorant insensitivity deserves it.

LillianGish · 19/01/2010 14:39

Who is it aimed at? I couldn't imagine myself tuning in to watch - and I'm pretty much addicted to Mumsnet. Essential problem for me is it is not interactive. I was quite curious to see what Mumsnetters really look like, but I think I actually prefer it when they keep their mystique and I think about what they are saying rather than what they look like (maybe a radio show would be better?!) This is not intended as a criticism of anyone who appeared in or was involved in the project, I just think there is so much of that kind of stuff on tv anyway - done better - and the USP of Mumsnet - that you can get straight on there and shape (or even change the course of) the discussion - is missing.

VinegarTits · 19/01/2010 14:41

I wouldnt leave over something Bonsoir said, or anyone for that matter

Hullygully · 19/01/2010 14:53

What did she say? Not the three letter "f" word? The five letter "c" word?

Hullygully · 19/01/2010 14:54

So good I'll ask it twice..

IcedBum · 19/01/2010 14:56

Very properly deleted by MN. Great that the rapid-response unit is in today!

Dumbledoresgirl · 19/01/2010 14:58

The chief interest for me was getting to see what other Mners look like. Many of the issues covered don't really interest me eg eyelash curlers (wtf?) and I agree that filming in a house did not allow us to really see the clothes in the makeover. Plus the lighting was appalling! (oh how easy it is to be a critic!) Plus, I have a sneaky feeling the Mner who cut her hair would look great no matter how she cut it as she has lovely curly hair. It should have been a straight haired woman doing that and I bet it would have looked a mess. In fact, I bet her friend was a hairdresser and went straight to work on her once the camera was turned off (not that she needed to but really, does that way of cutting your hair really work?)

But what strikes me most of all is, beyond getting to nosey around some Mner's houses and put faces to names, what is the point of this?

Carriemumsnet · 19/01/2010 15:04

Thanks so much for the input - keep it coming - we can take it (just ).

To answer the some of the main queries

What's it for? It is to appear just on Mumsnet for the delight and entertainment of Mumsnetters and featuring, mostly, Mumsnetters. So not meant for mainstream TV land.

The received wisdom seems to be that internet viewers can't manage a programme that lasts longer than about 8 minutes, hence the length of the show and the length of each segment, but again that's all up for grabs.

The costs were and will be kept as low as possible, but we take on board some of the comments about lighting, location, graphics, music etc and will bear everything in mind if we dare to continue with the project....

Thanks for taking the time to offer feedback and thanks again to all the lovely Mumsnetters who took part. This is absolutely just a pilot, so do keep telling us what you think both about the content and format of the show (and the name!)

But what is the point of doing MN TV for Mners? So we can see what we look like and what houses we live in???

Okay if we can look round Paggy's house tho. Anyone else got a fancy pad?

VinegarTits · 19/01/2010 15:14

Mners cribs, good idea that Hully

LillianGish · 19/01/2010 15:44

It just seems so thin and insubstantial compared to the real Mumsnet. I think the question you need to ask is why would you watch it on TV rather just going on line. On this basis the makeovers are a good idea - but AIBU, a Mumsnet classic, doesn't work at all. From a pure nosiness point of view I'd love to see some of the Mumsnet legends in their own homes - Bonsoir and Xenia spring immediately to mind - to see if they match their on screen personas. Or what about fronting up some of the MILs from hell to see if they are as monstrous as they are made out to be? Or what about Mumsnet wedding videos (highlights of) so we can decide if they were really as tasteful as they were made out to be? But I'm guessing that most Mumsnetters, and particularly the more controversial ones, would prefer to retain their anonymity so Mumsnet TV is always going to be much blander than the real thing.

bibbitybobbityhat · 19/01/2010 15:59

I think participating in Mumsnet by posting on the talk board (or even just lurking on the talk board) is its major attraction.

I think very few people would put themselves forward to be "outed"; I get the impression most of us want to preserve some semblance of anonymity.

I saw Bonsoir's comment and didn't really understand it . I know it was unkindly meant, but didn't take it to mean any criticism of the participants, if that is of any comfort LITR.

Hullygully · 19/01/2010 16:05

Come on Bibs, give me a hint...

bibbitybobbityhat · 19/01/2010 16:09

Something about class Hully.

Really made old Anna look like a right silly itch .

Hullygully · 19/01/2010 16:12

I suspected the "c" word if not the "f." How terribly predictable. Thanks, Bibs.
