kept your outraged and offended fingers away from the complaint button, all this silly sweary name shenanigans would have been tomorrows chip-paper by now.........

As it is, there is now going to be ream after ream of this daft arguing about fuck-all

it could rival Moldie-Gate you know, and that is not a ^good6 thing

night night, AF. sleep well, you old cunt.

PS don't tend to agree with the thin end of the wedge argument when it comes to this. personally i think it's as much going in the other direction and the site is becoming noticeably more crude as it gets bigger. some correction to that, a reminder of manners etc, would be no bad thing. imo.

fanjolina · 29/09/2009 23:57

Aitch, MNHQ didn't ask CW to change her name. They BANNED her because of complaints about her name.

That is censorship

DreamsInBinary · 29/09/2009 23:58

I'm cross today generally, I'm afraid

I agree with you and AnyFucker that if one sweary name is banned, then they all should be (although that's not the case, I think). I also think that if this were the case, it would then be reasonable to insist on no sexist/blasphemous/exclusive names either.

It's late, and I thought you were repeatedly attacking AnyFucker's name because it wasn't funny, which seemed unnecessarily harsh. In context, it makes more sense.

Tortington · 29/09/2009 23:59

did they?

i find that very hard to believe.

maybe they revoked the user name becuase she refused to change it.

i will be totally prepared to kiss your arse if justine says that they banned her for being called cuntwhacker alone.

i bet she refused to change name - so forgoing the opportunity to continue mumsnetting.

AitchTwoToTangOh · 30/09/2009 00:06

yeah, i'm disinclined to believe that mnhq did that, it's not really their style. where did that story come from, do we know? i'd have thought that at worst they'd have deleted the name. (although agree, dreams, that if one goes, they should all go... which is where it all starts to get a bit sticky, of course.)

AnyFucker · 30/09/2009 07:09

< looks round >

yep, I am still here

I don't reckon CW was banned

there was no talk of banning, that was a bit of hysterical 2+2=5, the idea was that people were "encouraged" not to use offensive names (according to the sticky)

OP posts:
Meglet · 30/09/2009 07:22

FWIW, I'm glad you're still here.

AnyFucker · 30/09/2009 07:24

oo, ta

'and request MNHQ ask her quietly to namechange fi they found it offensive.'

I did.

southeastastra · 30/09/2009 08:51

there are more and more threads on here now picking holes in mn, less and less normal conversations

Thread · 30/09/2009 08:53

I don't get why this is all so controversial. I don't mind sweary names personally but I certainly don't mind MNHQ just reminding everybody of the obscenity guidelines and asking them to be sensitive. The exact same reminder was issued a while ago in relation to sweary thread titles and the sky didn't fall in.

I don't believe for a second that they banned cuntwacker. She herself says here that she self-censored.

morningpaper · 30/09/2009 08:59

TBH I'd prefer NOT to allow "fuck" or "cunt" in usernames

They DO jump off the page and (a) it's all very well saying "Don't read over my shoulder, dear" but EVERYONE's eyes are drawn to the bright blue swearwords whether they are 6 or 60 and (b) I don't like swearing for the sake of it and I don't get the motivations behind someone doing so (ok for a joke for a bit, fine) - it's all very 'Tango ad' which makes me cringe. It does also mean that a lot of people will be put off MN - e.g. recently my headmaster printed off a thread from Netmums about education - there is NO WAY he would do that from Mumsnet with usernames with swear-words in. Which is a GREAT SHAME imo because our threads are far superior.

Doodlez · 30/09/2009 09:01

I don't care. Swear if you want/must. User sweary names - what ever.

But for the love of God, please, please, please STOP with the thread titles that have no ending. Example, "What shall I do about.......". FINISH THE BLOODY TITLE!

pagwatch · 30/09/2009 09:09

It has reached the point where it is impossible to have a rational conversation about this - the lines in the sand have been drawn.
The pros are talking about censorship as if we are revoloutionary freedom fighter, a last bastion of hope in a Dictatororship rather than a bunch of parents having a chat because we are bored at work or avoidingthe washing up.

The antis are apparently just fainting periodically from the emotional assault of the word fuck written in blue on their screen.

FWIW I use fuck often, cunt rarely but never in titles because that strikes me as too crass. I actually quite like the names AnyFucker and the Queen ( although not sure why they have been singled out - haven't read any threads other than this one) but I think if they were my names I would not be comfortable with the notion that I may be genuinely offending people and change them a bit . But perhaps I am weak

As for the bumsex type threads . I just don't read threads that get too crude because it becomes a bit foul for me and I can't cringe at the computer - it gives me a headache. I just hide them.

But I wish people would stop shouting about what others should be doing and ponder if they could maybe give a bit for the sake of community.

We are supposed to be a bit of a community arn't we?

morningpaper · 30/09/2009 09:11

I'm not sure this is ACTUAL fainting

It just seems a bit daft having threads of people called "FuckYouMotherFucker" complaining about children's manners

pagwatch · 30/09/2009 09:11

Actually ignore that.
I am with doodles

Bloody " i went in to the kitchenn saw a great big...

Its always cooker or spider or breadbin. NEVER anything worth opening the thread for.

Should def be banned.

morningpaper · 30/09/2009 09:12

Agree pagwatch

"Can anyone help me with..."

BecauseImWorthIt · 30/09/2009 09:12

I agree, pagwatch - we are a community.

However, there was a great irony, I thought, in being told to "fuck off" by someone who purported to be offended by sweary names!

pagwatch · 30/09/2009 09:12

mp

I exaggerated for comic effect.
And apparently failed

pagwatch · 30/09/2009 09:13

BIWI

that is bad - but actually also quite funny

QueenOfFlamingEverything · 30/09/2009 09:17

Hey ho.

Like pag says, I am quite uncomfortable with the idea my name was offending people and that my posts would be ignored, so I have altered it (and quite like the alteration though I say so myself).

Tortington · 30/09/2009 09:19

queen, i think you look absolutley stinning in your new outfit

Tortington · 30/09/2009 09:19

stunning *

pagwatch · 30/09/2009 09:20
