A few notes on the new look and functions

There are still a few problems with using the various "Mumsnet Classic" options. However, for a lot of people matters are significantly improved if they press Refresh in their browse. If you're using Firefox, try pressing Shift+Refresh. At about 4:30am this morning after many hours of work, that made the classic option work well. Only a couple of minor layout issues remained.

Text is not meant to be squished, you're not supposed to have to scroll down through acres of whitespace. We'll definitely fix these issues.

I've no idea why people are finding text too tiny; the font size hasn't changed intentionally, so if it is tiny for you it's either a need to press refresh (to reload the style sheet, in tech speak) or a problem that will be fixed.

Threads I'm On and Threads I'm Watching should behave in the way they always did - they do for me. Let us know the specifics of problems you have with them and we'll address them.

We know about the problem of seeing "hide hide hide" across the top of the page. If you go in to customise (which my huge ENGLISH dictionary lists as being able to be spelled either customise OR customize) you can turn off showing of the Hide option which is a workaround for this problem. We'll fix it properly soon.

The ads have neither changed size nor increased in number.

Remember: Press REFRESH (and try SHIFT+REFRESH) a couple of times. It might help a lot.

For those having problems we do apologise and will sort it all as soon as we can. For those that hate it, perhaps you'll get used to it after a while and we'll improve the classic options (though I am using them now and they're working fine).

Oh and for the 2 of you that said thanks for all the hard work: thanks! It has taken over a dozen people a lot of hard work. We had to release it in a hurry and it's not perfect, but we'll get there.

CD - will check out Active Conversations - yes you should be able to get more than 10. Building works on hold (but at least I've settled on a plan now - until next week anyway.)

Tinker - sounds like a browser issue apparently (close and re-open?)

Simpson - purple for clicked-on already threads is coming (might take a day or so)

MamaG - No. of replies we know about - apologies we will fix - fancy smilies might have to wait

BabyBaby123 · 30/01/2009 14:48

i don't like it

Flier · 30/01/2009 14:50

Justine - any answer to my query - or am I not making myself understood?

By Flier on Fri 30-Jan-09 13:02:41
Justine-very apt new name!
Here's one that no-one else seems to have mentioned (possibly no-one else is bothered about it).
It used to be that the last post time/date was shown next to a topic - this in no longer shown next to the topic; instead you have to click on the topic (thereby seeing all messages within the topic).
This was handy on little-used topics (like my local mumsnet)
Can we have date & time of last post back please?

ChippyMinton · 30/01/2009 14:51

I have one request, assuming it's not just my PC - I want to be able to read the entire thread title in Active Convos. I don't want to have to click on a thread just to see what it is about.

It's especially bad in the NEW layout, which I have been using because the Classic layout isn't the Classic layout of yesterday, is it? It's an indecipherable mishmash of font sizes etc.

Alambil · 30/01/2009 14:51

Fanks tech

Just wondering - why is there an inch and a half of plain white either side of MN (in either new or classic)?

That's bugging me - I have a widescreen monitor on my lappy though so may be that? MN yesterday used to put the blue bands right from left to right - now they're "centre aligned" so to speak with loads of white either side.

Also, can we change the threads I've just clicked on cos it's remaining blue and confusing me!!

And lastly..... is there ANY way we can see long titles in their entirity to save valuable clicking time make sure we have an interest in the thread?

Threadworm · 30/01/2009 14:52

It's not just you chippy.

I hate the truncated thread titles. Hope that can be put right.

JustineApologiesMumsnet · 30/01/2009 14:53

CD - are you definitely clicking the right save button for customising your AC - there are a few...

re the white margins. There is some white space on either side of screen if you've viewing on a large screen. On my 19 inch screen i get about 2 inches of white space on either side.

Alambil · 30/01/2009 14:53

Oh, sorry - just noticed colour change coming up

SoupDragon · 30/01/2009 14:53

Has anyone said that there's something odd going on with the results thrown up by the search facility? They appear with dates/times like "30/32/09 14:32"

doggiesayswoof · 30/01/2009 14:54

There was a thread earlier about the truncated thread titles - they are fixing it.

that's my main bugbear atm too

JustineApologiesMumsnet · 30/01/2009 14:55

Purple links on clicked-on threads are with us!
Right, next to Threads I'm on...

JustineApologiesMumsnet · 30/01/2009 14:57

I mean threads I'm watching, not threads I'm on. Apologies!

ChippyMinton · 30/01/2009 14:57

dsrplus8 · 30/01/2009 14:59

Alambil · 30/01/2009 15:00

Thanks techteam

MamaG · 30/01/2009 15:00

I like the "MN lates t " box

Tinker · 30/01/2009 15:01

I've refreshed and back button works again

BONKERZ · 30/01/2009 15:04

ok well im not sure about it this! Appreciate it must have taken along time and alot of effort, well done BUT the type is tiny and i cant customise it! HAve clicked on return to classic but nothing is happening! Have refreshed and siigned out and in etc but its not happening for me! Such small text and bright screen means less MN and thats NOT good!

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 30/01/2009 15:19

I was going to say the same as chippyminton but I see it's all being sorted so can I offer a sincere well done to all concerned - I like it!

onager · 30/01/2009 15:23

Tech I think the browser was controlling font size before.

Which it still does in Preview I see.

Saltire · 30/01/2009 15:24
