A few notes on the new look and functions

There are still a few problems with using the various "Mumsnet Classic" options. However, for a lot of people matters are significantly improved if they press Refresh in their browse. If you're using Firefox, try pressing Shift+Refresh. At about 4:30am this morning after many hours of work, that made the classic option work well. Only a couple of minor layout issues remained.

Text is not meant to be squished, you're not supposed to have to scroll down through acres of whitespace. We'll definitely fix these issues.

I've no idea why people are finding text too tiny; the font size hasn't changed intentionally, so if it is tiny for you it's either a need to press refresh (to reload the style sheet, in tech speak) or a problem that will be fixed.

Threads I'm On and Threads I'm Watching should behave in the way they always did - they do for me. Let us know the specifics of problems you have with them and we'll address them.

We know about the problem of seeing "hide hide hide" across the top of the page. If you go in to customise (which my huge ENGLISH dictionary lists as being able to be spelled either customise OR customize) you can turn off showing of the Hide option which is a workaround for this problem. We'll fix it properly soon.

The ads have neither changed size nor increased in number.

Remember: Press REFRESH (and try SHIFT+REFRESH) a couple of times. It might help a lot.

For those having problems we do apologise and will sort it all as soon as we can. For those that hate it, perhaps you'll get used to it after a while and we'll improve the classic options (though I am using them now and they're working fine).

Oh and for the 2 of you that said thanks for all the hard work: thanks! It has taken over a dozen people a lot of hard work. We had to release it in a hurry and it's not perfect, but we'll get there.

Not got purple threads here either

I have on the headings ie post natal, parenting etc but not on the threads themselves...

TartanPussyCat · 30/01/2009 15:38

Argh can't get purple threads either

JustineApologiesMumsnet · 30/01/2009 15:39

Saltire - yes we are doing lots of content for those ages - eg education, food, health etc but not by age group. It seems to make more sense to do it that way rather than 5-12s as the issues are so diverse.

nancy75 we have ditched the last day link because it was just too long - it never fully loaded anyway so you got last day but only the first half. You can use advanced search to get last 24 hours though, if you like doing it that way.

FiveGoMadInDorset we'll look at customise AC again and we are looking at SN in AC at the moment.

dooneygirl · 30/01/2009 15:40

Another Firefox user where shift + F5 or F5 or Control + F5 doesn't work, and I'm about 3 inches away from my monitor to be able to read the text. Is is because you hate me because I'm American?

DownyEmerald · 30/01/2009 15:40

I'm on Firefox, and at the very top there is "Sea in normal black font and then a dropdown box with "mumsnet" cuts in.
?
Oh search of course!

AMumInScotland · 30/01/2009 15:40

Justine - I've definitely tried clicking all of the Save buttons ( I count 4 in all ), and have tried changing both the style and the "Hide link on Active Convos", and no combination will stick.

If it helps any, I'm on Internet Explorer 6, which may make a difference. I'll try it later on IE7 and see if that makes any difference - if you and some others are getting it to work, it must be something like that I'd think.

I've also tried deleting all my temp internet files to be sure I'm on the most recent page, which didn't halp.

I know you have worked raeally hard on this but why is there about 3 inchs of white space on either side (3 inches when added all together)

and choosing classic means it should be the same as wednesday

I REALLY cant cope with this
I cant get classic at all

no purple threads, huge white spaces

help p0leeeeeeease

Stretch · 30/01/2009 15:53

Just something else to give you a headache about (sorry), but when you click on someones profile, it's really squashed up to the left. Same with the pictures. Just looks really odd that's all!

JFly · 30/01/2009 15:54

Dunno if this has been covered, but can't seem to customize my settings in Chrome to get Classic. Can't seem to do it in IE, either. I've clicked all the "save" buttons and I've hard refreshed. Can't stand the blue thread titles (hard on the eyes) so would really like to be able to change to Classic.

Also, when you're in a thread the advert on the right cuts into the thread, like it's laid over the text boxes.

And are we just scrolling through all messages in a thread now, or will we get pages back?

OH, and when in Preview mode, the text in the message box goes teeny tiny.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 30/01/2009 15:55

OK I can get purple threads if I go through Internet explorer but still can't get customise to do what I want,

but no purple threads if I go through AOL

cheerfulvicky · 30/01/2009 15:59

Hellooooo,
Don't mind the new look except I'm using firefox for mac and the text on posts is too wide, have to scroll from side to side as well as up and down to read everything. And I've tried refreshing, shift + refresh and fiddling with customizable settings, to no avail. Help!

Jux · 30/01/2009 16:04

No purple threads here either (Firefox).

kayzr · 30/01/2009 16:04

What is going to happen with 'Threads I'm On'? I shows me as being the last poster despite people posting after me. Also you can't just go to the latest post, it takes you to the first page.

Other than that I really like it.

CountessDracula · 30/01/2009 16:06

yes i mentioned that earler

JustineApologiesMumsnet · 30/01/2009 16:06

CD - you're set to 100 threads in AC - we've looked

FiveGoMadInDorset we can change all your settings and they stick for us

JFly you are set to Classic when we look (remember it's not exactly the same as was because there's a new header and margins)

AMumInScotland all changes stick for us in your account - try again?

JustineApologiesMumsnet · 30/01/2009 16:08

Can you explain what you mean by purple threads? Do you mean once you've clicked on a thread it goes purple or something else?

Earthymama · 30/01/2009 16:08

Hi I do appreciate how much effort you've put in and I'm sure I'll have forgotten MN ever looked any other wy soon but my probs are the same as AMuminScotland.

I'll try again later.

FAQtothefuture · 30/01/2009 16:08

oooo how exciting I've come home after being out virtually all day to find the links I've clicked on are now much easier to spot again

kayzr · 30/01/2009 16:11

I'm using firefox and the threads I have looked at are now turning purple.

AMumInScotland · 30/01/2009 16:13

No - still not sticking, I'm afraid.

JustineApologiesMumsnet · 30/01/2009 16:14

Re white margin - if you really hate it you can always make your browser window smaller?

RE font text being pale - we'll try it a wee bit darker asap (tend to agree it's come out a bit paler than planned)

We are still working on:
threads I'm watching
SN in AC
Threads I'm on - last post showing as me
CustomiSe
Search button at top of pages

If you're having problems with customise make sure:

  1. you press the right save button
  2. you refresh your page once saved

If you're still having problems the please do post up here with full description of what's not working and we'll look into it.

thanks!

FiveGoMadInDorset · 30/01/2009 16:16

Once I have clicked on a thread in the old format it would stay a different colour, now I can do this if I access you through Internet Explorer but can't do it if I access you through AOL.

Thank you for changing it to 100 actives, any possibility you could add the hide option as well as that is still not working.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 30/01/2009 16:17

I've done all of that and its still not working. No change at all.

Pollyanna · 30/01/2009 16:17

I like the new look, BUT like CD and others, I can't get the 100 threads in active convos to stick = it keeps going to 50 threads. I have clicked all of the save buttons and I am in the "new" style.
