A few notes on the new look and functions

There are still a few problems with using the various "Mumsnet Classic" options. However, for a lot of people matters are significantly improved if they press Refresh in their browse. If you're using Firefox, try pressing Shift+Refresh. At about 4:30am this morning after many hours of work, that made the classic option work well. Only a couple of minor layout issues remained.

Text is not meant to be squished, you're not supposed to have to scroll down through acres of whitespace. We'll definitely fix these issues.

I've no idea why people are finding text too tiny; the font size hasn't changed intentionally, so if it is tiny for you it's either a need to press refresh (to reload the style sheet, in tech speak) or a problem that will be fixed.

Threads I'm On and Threads I'm Watching should behave in the way they always did - they do for me. Let us know the specifics of problems you have with them and we'll address them.

We know about the problem of seeing "hide hide hide" across the top of the page. If you go in to customise (which my huge ENGLISH dictionary lists as being able to be spelled either customise OR customize) you can turn off showing of the Hide option which is a workaround for this problem. We'll fix it properly soon.

The ads have neither changed size nor increased in number.

Remember: Press REFRESH (and try SHIFT+REFRESH) a couple of times. It might help a lot.

For those having problems we do apologise and will sort it all as soon as we can. For those that hate it, perhaps you'll get used to it after a while and we'll improve the classic options (though I am using them now and they're working fine).

Oh and for the 2 of you that said thanks for all the hard work: thanks! It has taken over a dozen people a lot of hard work. We had to release it in a hurry and it's not perfect, but we'll get there.

Actually, as LemonTart says, the MN logo is a link to the homepage - it just doesn't change the cursor when you mouse over it like all the other links do, so I didn't realise it was one - it only changes when you actually click on it.

JustineApologiesMumsnet · 30/01/2009 13:55

AMumInScotland - I've tried changing my preferences in Customise and it's working for me - are you sure you're pressing the right save button - there are 3 different ones?

PenelopePitstops · 30/01/2009 13:56

is search supposed to be working yet?

CountessDracula · 30/01/2009 13:57

justine can you get more than 10 threads on active convos??

How's your building stuff btw?

FiveGoMadInDorset · 30/01/2009 14:01

Justine - specail needs topic is still coming up in active convos for me eben though I have chosen it not to also can get 50 but not 100 top active convos and can't change the hide thread button everytime I select I then press the save button (the one at the end of that section) and it just reverts back.

foxinsocks · 30/01/2009 14:04

I've got millions of active convos Countess Drac

does no-one else have margin issues?

NoNickname · 30/01/2009 14:06

Don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but a specific issue for me is that the Threads I'm Watching page is blank - I was watching loads and they have disappeared. I've refreshed. Am using IE7.

Saltire · 30/01/2009 14:06

Justine, since you didn't reply (or anyone else form MNHQ for that matter) can you please explain to me why there ar elinks at the top of the talk page(under the MN logo) saying
Conception, Pregnancy, Babies, Toddlers. The links lead to a page of advice, or similar - I didn't look too much. There is nothing that says "older children" or "teenagers". Do we as parents of older children not need a link? It reads as though MN is for parents of children under 5!

Well, it's been a strange morning. I really like the look of the new site tbh - it's so much cleaner, like when you de clutter your surfaces - only problem is you can';t sodding find anything

I kind of just don't really want to be here today. It's not channelling that messy, familiar absolute tip of a desk type feeling for me any more. It's not...comfy.

I might get used to it, but if I don't I shall have to find some other forum that uses the same crappy old set up we used to have

Back to 'Washing Machine Chat.com' for me then... I'm doomed to talk about appliances for the rest of my life.

ThingOne · 30/01/2009 14:15

Like the clean new look. Still mystified about the difference between types of refresh but have followed instructions from those in the know and it's working and looking good.

Where are the GAMES? Or have you been talking to my DH and got rid of them ?

BexieID · 30/01/2009 14:16

It's nice, thanks. But, the white background seems very bright now, iykwim, lol.

JustineApologiesMumsnet · 30/01/2009 14:24

Saltire - lots more content to come... hence all the space. This is just the start. We are planning teens, education, food etc

Glad you've noticed it though - you are in the minority it seems and Gerry was becoming a bit peeved - and apologies for the delayed response. Missed your post.

snowleopard · 30/01/2009 14:27

It's just come right for me, what a relief - feel like I can see again.

CountessDracula · 30/01/2009 14:30

i wish it would for me
argh

JustineApologiesMumsnet · 30/01/2009 14:32

what's wrong CD?

CountessDracula · 30/01/2009 14:33

i can't change active convos from 10 to 100 on customise - it won't do it

Also i have huge white bands down either side of screen

and i wanted to know how your building work was going

foxinsocks · 30/01/2009 14:34

yeah white bands is what I meant by margin issues

MamaG · 30/01/2009 14:36

I like the recipes bit at the bottom of the page - I think it will encourage me to use it more

did anybody note my message about smileys?

simpson · 30/01/2009 14:36

Dunno if this has been mentioned before but why doesn't the threads I've clicked on or read go purple to differentiate them from all the others?? tis most annoying.

Other than that I like it

Tinker · 30/01/2009 14:40

Not read any posts yet, sorry, but I can't use my back function on pc now when using mn. I'm having to click Threads I'm on each time

MamaG · 30/01/2009 14:42

... and the number of replies needs a tweak!

Ohforfoxsake · 30/01/2009 14:45

It's making my eyes go funny. I don't know why, but I'm finding it harder to read. An hour in, I've got a headache.

Which means I'll have to stop MNing now Better lie down in a darkened room or I'll have to do some housework.
