A few notes on the new look and functions

There are still a few problems with using the various "Mumsnet Classic" options. However, for a lot of people matters are significantly improved if they press Refresh in their browse. If you're using Firefox, try pressing Shift+Refresh. At about 4:30am this morning after many hours of work, that made the classic option work well. Only a couple of minor layout issues remained.

Text is not meant to be squished, you're not supposed to have to scroll down through acres of whitespace. We'll definitely fix these issues.

I've no idea why people are finding text too tiny; the font size hasn't changed intentionally, so if it is tiny for you it's either a need to press refresh (to reload the style sheet, in tech speak) or a problem that will be fixed.

Threads I'm On and Threads I'm Watching should behave in the way they always did - they do for me. Let us know the specifics of problems you have with them and we'll address them.

We know about the problem of seeing "hide hide hide" across the top of the page. If you go in to customise (which my huge ENGLISH dictionary lists as being able to be spelled either customise OR customize) you can turn off showing of the Hide option which is a workaround for this problem. We'll fix it properly soon.

The ads have neither changed size nor increased in number.

Remember: Press REFRESH (and try SHIFT+REFRESH) a couple of times. It might help a lot.

For those having problems we do apologise and will sort it all as soon as we can. For those that hate it, perhaps you'll get used to it after a while and we'll improve the classic options (though I am using them now and they're working fine).

Oh and for the 2 of you that said thanks for all the hard work: thanks! It has taken over a dozen people a lot of hard work. We had to release it in a hurry and it's not perfect, but we'll get there.

Thanks for the F5 tip, but threads I am on still remains cluttered and lacking in differentiation .

morningpaper · 30/01/2009 09:39

(I do appreciate that no one except for me USES the advanced search....)

morningpaper · 30/01/2009 09:40

have you tried SHIFT-F5? That's the ermmm long button you press when you need a capital

Have you got more than one window open? close all the others?

PadDad · 30/01/2009 09:40

Anyone else getting dates like '29/57/09'?

YetMoreTech · 30/01/2009 09:41

A couple of other things:

  1. We've not adjusted the real moon - it's the Mumsnet moon that is screwy. It will be fixed.
  1. Here is what Active Convos looks like in Classic mode in Firefox (if you click shift+refresh in your browser or try F5 if you're using a PC or Apple R on a Mac):

www.mumsnet.com/images/screen1.gif

i.e. it looks fine!

  1. Threads I'm Watching is broken. It will be fixed.

I use the advanced search lots Just haven't yet this morning... I'm still trying to work out which threads I'm on have been updated without physically hovering by the computer and remembering what the last text in the thread was

RubberDuck · 30/01/2009 09:42

Sod classic mode, I want the NEW mode to be functional!!!!!!

Almeida · 30/01/2009 09:42

Thanks to all for the hard work!

A request....Could the cocep/preg/baby bar be moved as it takes up lots of room for ir's use and purpose.

Looking at the screen could it go on the mumsnet homepage (found when click logo) or could it fill the white space between the logo & adverts as a vertical list?

YetMoreTech · 30/01/2009 09:42

Oh yes and we know the dates are weird too. However, NikitaTech can only fix 18 things at once, so please hang on in there a while longer.

Yes thanks for that MP, I do know what the shift key is. If I press f5 alone, the page refreshes (but is no different - I am talking about Threads Im on page) but pressing shift and f5 together does nothing. Should it?

fishie · 30/01/2009 09:44

how odd, i can't change the hide settings. just keeps reverting to 'yes'.

the logo in top lhs is a bit too prominent for the workplace, will we be getting a 'muted' option again?

RubberDuck · 30/01/2009 09:44

Dumbledore: SHIFT-CMD R for Mac

[Slides a Milkybar over to NikitaTech and puts kettle on]

Gipfeli · 30/01/2009 09:45

Yes I noticed that about advanced search too.

DumbledoresGirl · 30/01/2009 09:45

Don't think I have a mac. I have windows - is that relevant?

ruty · 30/01/2009 09:45

i have google chrome and i can't get classic. Is this something you are still working on or
is there something i can do? Refresh has made the text bigger and less squished but still can't get classic.

ChasingSquirrels · 30/01/2009 09:46

non of my links change when I have clicked on them (have tried changing the options) and in activ convo's threads I have clicked on remain the same colour.

Will these be ironed out or it this how it will remain?

morningpaper · 30/01/2009 09:46

easy there Kerry

he's only had 3 hours sleep

he is verging on hysterical

Threadworm · 30/01/2009 09:46

Yes, thanks for all hard work. The only major problem I have is that the font colour makes for very poor contrast -- not good for my middle-aged vision. PLEASE could we have a high-contrast option?

RubberDuck · 30/01/2009 09:47

Ah, just wondered if that's why shift-F5 wasn't working (or is it ctrl-F5... I forget the damn windows shortcuts)

Boco · 30/01/2009 09:47

Having pressed refresh it's fine now, it looks better. Well done on all hard work, poor sleep deprived tech people.

I think it's because some of us actually live here, so it's like you've woken up in the morning and someone has redecorated your sitting room.

But actually, it looks better.

MauriceDancer · 30/01/2009 09:47

no joy for me in firefox. although that style sheet thing you linked to looks GORGEOUS.
