A few notes on the new look and functions

There are still a few problems with using the various "Mumsnet Classic" options. However, for a lot of people matters are significantly improved if they press Refresh in their browse. If you're using Firefox, try pressing Shift+Refresh. At about 4:30am this morning after many hours of work, that made the classic option work well. Only a couple of minor layout issues remained.

Text is not meant to be squished, you're not supposed to have to scroll down through acres of whitespace. We'll definitely fix these issues.

I've no idea why people are finding text too tiny; the font size hasn't changed intentionally, so if it is tiny for you it's either a need to press refresh (to reload the style sheet, in tech speak) or a problem that will be fixed.

Threads I'm On and Threads I'm Watching should behave in the way they always did - they do for me. Let us know the specifics of problems you have with them and we'll address them.

We know about the problem of seeing "hide hide hide" across the top of the page. If you go in to customise (which my huge ENGLISH dictionary lists as being able to be spelled either customise OR customize) you can turn off showing of the Hide option which is a workaround for this problem. We'll fix it properly soon.

The ads have neither changed size nor increased in number.

Remember: Press REFRESH (and try SHIFT+REFRESH) a couple of times. It might help a lot.

For those having problems we do apologise and will sort it all as soon as we can. For those that hate it, perhaps you'll get used to it after a while and we'll improve the classic options (though I am using them now and they're working fine).

Oh and for the 2 of you that said thanks for all the hard work: thanks! It has taken over a dozen people a lot of hard work. We had to release it in a hurry and it's not perfect, but we'll get there.

Winebeforepearls · 30/01/2009 12:48

-ize endings are just as English as -ise endings, just less commonly used. But still orthentik English English, not American.

(I think Penguin use -ize as their house style. Thready will back me up [perhaps])

JustineApologiesMumsnet · 30/01/2009 12:48

Yes we agree it should be CustomiSe - will change soonest. Apologies!

mistlethrush · 30/01/2009 12:55

Thankyou so much Justine - I will be able to open up without cringing

notnowbernard · 30/01/2009 12:55

Sorry if this has been said already!

When viewing Active Convos, a thread I've viewed does not come up as highlighted, thereby making it difficult to see what I've opened already, IYSWIM

Can I customise to revert it to how it was before in this regard?

JustineApologiesMumsnet · 30/01/2009 12:56

It's not about being right Winebeforepearls, it's about being anti-American [joke emoticon].

JustineApologiesMumsnet · 30/01/2009 12:57

NotNowBernard - that's an error and we're working on it - apologies (Is no one going to notice my new nickname????)

Threadworm · 30/01/2009 12:59

Actually I agree with that! I'm quite happy with 'customize' as an English variant. But my knee-jerk anti-Americanism makes me feel that an oh-so-British site like this one should wear its not-Americanness on its sleeve.

notnowbernard · 30/01/2009 13:00

Thanks, Justine

Like the nickname

mollyroger · 30/01/2009 13:00

lol, noticed and sniggered over, Justine.

MamaG · 30/01/2009 13:01

foxinsocks · 30/01/2009 13:02

what about the big margins?

Flier · 30/01/2009 13:02

Justine-very apt new name!
Here's one that no-one else seems to have mentioned (possibly no-one else is bothered about it).
It used to be that the last post time/date was shown next to a topic - this in no longer shown next to the topic; instead you have to click on the topic (thereby seeing all messages within the topic).
This was handy on little-used topics (like my local mumsnet)
Can we have date & time of last post back please?

Jux · 30/01/2009 13:07

I have Firefox and only need to press F5 to refresh.

Thanks allTechs for your hard work.

andyrobo237 · 30/01/2009 13:11

Well I like it - it looks funky!!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/01/2009 13:12

Every time I try to reset it so oldest messages are at the bottom it resets and it resets having it as pages too. Classic isn't working either

oh I don't mean to be all humpfy but I was really looking forward to a nice relax with MN.

prettybird · 30/01/2009 13:23

Not sure if this has been mentioned elsewehre, but the taxt no longer seems to be "folding" on to the next line if you don't have it on full screen.

Previosyly it would adjust to whatever size windo you had - whereas now, each line stays at the length of the full screen and you need to scroll acorss to read in full.

I like to have it in a smaller window so that i can easily jump to something else when I am illicitly mumsnetting at work!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/01/2009 13:23

Ok - doing slightly better - I need to make sure that the Mumsnet classic colour scheme is clicked on to not lose my settings.

Please could the shortcuts menu be customisable? Pretty please. And stronger colours for those of us who are weak of eye!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/01/2009 13:26

I like the search button. tis like other forums.

AMumInScotland · 30/01/2009 13:27

I don't mind if it's written "Customise" or "Customize", but mine doesn't work.... hen I click on the Save button, it doesn't save the changes I've made.

PenelopePitstops · 30/01/2009 13:38

pretty bird thats happening to me too

I like most of it though, just makes it annoying when watching iplayer/ mnetting its really hard to read threads

TartanPussyCat · 30/01/2009 13:41

Like the new look and thanks Tech for the work that went into it!

The only problem i am having is 'Threads I'm Watching' won't save anything, it is blank whether in classic or otherwise.

Everything else is dandy though

PinkChick · 30/01/2009 13:41

just logged on so not looked around yet but AM LIKING THE NEW LOOK!
