A few notes on the new look and functions

There are still a few problems with using the various "Mumsnet Classic" options. However, for a lot of people matters are significantly improved if they press Refresh in their browse. If you're using Firefox, try pressing Shift+Refresh. At about 4:30am this morning after many hours of work, that made the classic option work well. Only a couple of minor layout issues remained.

Text is not meant to be squished, you're not supposed to have to scroll down through acres of whitespace. We'll definitely fix these issues.

I've no idea why people are finding text too tiny; the font size hasn't changed intentionally, so if it is tiny for you it's either a need to press refresh (to reload the style sheet, in tech speak) or a problem that will be fixed.

Threads I'm On and Threads I'm Watching should behave in the way they always did - they do for me. Let us know the specifics of problems you have with them and we'll address them.

We know about the problem of seeing "hide hide hide" across the top of the page. If you go in to customise (which my huge ENGLISH dictionary lists as being able to be spelled either customise OR customize) you can turn off showing of the Hide option which is a workaround for this problem. We'll fix it properly soon.

The ads have neither changed size nor increased in number.

Remember: Press REFRESH (and try SHIFT+REFRESH) a couple of times. It might help a lot.

For those having problems we do apologise and will sort it all as soon as we can. For those that hate it, perhaps you'll get used to it after a while and we'll improve the classic options (though I am using them now and they're working fine).

Oh and for the 2 of you that said thanks for all the hard work: thanks! It has taken over a dozen people a lot of hard work. We had to release it in a hurry and it's not perfect, but we'll get there.

lemontart - I tried that (on you) but it says you haven't created a profile page.

So now I need to find someone that I KNOW has a profile so I can click on their name and see what happens.

Any volunteers?

Lemontart · 30/01/2009 10:20

do you mean the posts within a thread - because you can change that
If you are talking about Active Convos listing of threads, no idea how you can get them into any clear order yet

Lemontart · 30/01/2009 10:20

sorry squonk - I keep meaning to set one up but just go all girly and embarrassed thinking "oooh, I don?t know what to write..."

RustyBear · 30/01/2009 10:20

I just thought I'd check out the rest of the site, but oddly, there seems to be no link to the homepage on Talk threads (if the logo is meant to be a link- it ain't....)

girlandboy · 30/01/2009 10:21

squonk - the post above you has a clipboard thing on it. (thisisyesterday's)

Can't you see it?

And yes, I always just click the posters name as well.

Lemontart · 30/01/2009 10:21

try YetMoreTech at the top of this thread

thisisyesterday · 30/01/2009 10:22

my profile works, and i have the ltitle logo.

well... i can see it anyway.

also not liking the ends of thread titles being cut off on active convos.

is that to make space for the expanse of white at either side????

Lemontart · 30/01/2009 10:22

Rusty - the big Logo with the Charlies Angels thingie at the top left works as a link to the homepage for me

Lemontart · 30/01/2009 10:23

oops sorry - you mean the other way round - from homepage to Talk - do you not have a tab near the top - first one on the left saying Talk? (to the right of the big logo)

fryalot · 30/01/2009 10:24

girlandboy - no, I can't see the clipboard thingy but I did click on thisisyesterday's name and I saw her profile (didn't stay to actually read it though, sorry, TIY)

I can't see icony things.

I shall have a look on the PC later when dp is off it and see if it is my computer or my settings on here or something.

You're sure it's there?

girlandboy · 30/01/2009 10:25

Actually, having a problem here now.

How do I find the "ethical living" section from the "Topics" page?

I can't see it.

girlandboy · 30/01/2009 10:26

It shows on mine squonk.

And the envelope and red exclamation mark.

LilRedWG · 30/01/2009 10:37

I like it but just tried to change back to Classic and the button does bugger all and keeps me on here.

Hassled · 30/01/2009 10:47

I'm almost certainly being thick, but on Active Convos, threads I've already lurked on, or posted on, are still showing blue, rather than my usual purple. Is this just how it is now, or have I missed something blindingly obvious in Customise?

IdrisTheDragon · 30/01/2009 10:49

My threads I'm watching have gone . I was watching quite a few

girlandboy · 30/01/2009 10:49

Hassled - you're not alone. I mentioned this earlier in the thread.

I want it back.

2shoes · 30/01/2009 10:51

all I can say is....where is the sn opt in/out button?

IdrisTheDragon · 30/01/2009 10:54

Ah I see they are officially broken.

Why are thread titles in AC small? They look tiny.

Hassled · 30/01/2009 10:56

2shoes - I have managed to find this. Go to customise, and click on the "go here" to manage what topics you see and don't see bit. The Special Needs bit is a separate drop down choice thing below that - scroll down and you'll see it.

sfxmum · 30/01/2009 10:57

can I just ask

generally I am fine with the changes, it looks clean BUT previously the threads on active convos that I had clicked on would change colour thereby making them easier to spot

is there any way of getting it back? is it to do with my settings/ laptop?

thisisyesterday · 30/01/2009 11:10

sfxmum, several of us having the same problem!

don't know yet if it is something we can fix, or something they're working on

BitOfFun · 30/01/2009 11:33

Help me! I am trying to get used to this, and I'm sure it will be fine, but it is taking a lot of tinkering from my iPhone. The server is safari if that helps?

I have it on mumsnet muted just now, and the page layout is ok, but I'm convinced the text has got smaller. Also, despite having "no" checked for the special needs topic, the threads keep coming up in active convos anyway. I feel sort of guilty hiding them, but one of my own kids is severely disabled, and her stuff is as much as I can cope with- seeing problems other people are having with SN kids just makes me feel really sad, and I come on here to not have to think too much about it IYSWIM, so I want to be able to change that but it won't let me...any tips?

sfxmum · 30/01/2009 11:34

ok thanks not major moved from classics to new and might leave it like that using Firefox and everything looks ok

BitOfFun · 30/01/2009 11:36

Sorry if that offends anyone, I do feel a bit ashamed of it, but it's the way I feel

Watusi · 30/01/2009 11:39

Thanks tech, for all your work.

I have moaned about the thread titles being cut off and wanted to give you an example of why it's fairly important.

This one

stops at the 'too many' bit. I didn't know whether I'd be able to help or not - it could have been about paracetamol, sleeping pills...anything really. It could have been about a suicide attempt, really sensitive stuff for some people and they wouldn't know whether to click or not iyswim.

Is there any chance the titles could appear in full?

Thankyou
