A few notes on the new look and functions

There are still a few problems with using the various "Mumsnet Classic" options. However, for a lot of people matters are significantly improved if they press Refresh in their browse. If you're using Firefox, try pressing Shift+Refresh. At about 4:30am this morning after many hours of work, that made the classic option work well. Only a couple of minor layout issues remained.

Text is not meant to be squished, you're not supposed to have to scroll down through acres of whitespace. We'll definitely fix these issues.

I've no idea why people are finding text too tiny; the font size hasn't changed intentionally, so if it is tiny for you it's either a need to press refresh (to reload the style sheet, in tech speak) or a problem that will be fixed.

Threads I'm On and Threads I'm Watching should behave in the way they always did - they do for me. Let us know the specifics of problems you have with them and we'll address them.

We know about the problem of seeing "hide hide hide" across the top of the page. If you go in to customise (which my huge ENGLISH dictionary lists as being able to be spelled either customise OR customize) you can turn off showing of the Hide option which is a workaround for this problem. We'll fix it properly soon.

The ads have neither changed size nor increased in number.

Remember: Press REFRESH (and try SHIFT+REFRESH) a couple of times. It might help a lot.

For those having problems we do apologise and will sort it all as soon as we can. For those that hate it, perhaps you'll get used to it after a while and we'll improve the classic options (though I am using them now and they're working fine).

Oh and for the 2 of you that said thanks for all the hard work: thanks! It has taken over a dozen people a lot of hard work. We had to release it in a hurry and it's not perfect, but we'll get there.

Actually there IS a Search button in Advanced search. But in the Mumsnet New version it's white text on very pale blue background and not showing up very well

DumbledoresGirl · 30/01/2009 09:48

basically "threads I'm on" is a mess. The subject titles are too small, the thread titles are fine, but there is not enough of a gap between each thread, and having the thread title and name of poster in the same colour and font is just too muddling. Oh and you need to have the thread change colour when you have clicked on it (in active convos). That is how I find threads I have been reading.

i have gone back to classic, which is better but will still take some getting used to.

my only problem now is that I am finding active convos really difficult to read. i am not entirely sure why... i think i want it all further to the left of the screen, maybe it's the colour?
not sure, but i genuinely find it difficult to peruse

FiveGoMadInDorset · 30/01/2009 09:49

TECH its good however when I go to the customise bit to get 100 active convos and put the hide button on it won't let me.

THANKYOU for answering me regarding the moon. It is clearly very important to me......I set my life according to the moon ya know.

ok, if the gremlins are now being contained and the glitches are bein fixed, I will breathe calmly and head off out, in the hope that later I will navigate here more freely.

WORD OF WARNING

if things are not fixed later, I can see (in my crystal ball) that there will be an influx of drunk MNers hammering at your door!!!

Hi, I'm not managing to change any of my options in the "Customise" page - I've tried clicking each of the "Save" buttons, but they all refresh the page and put the various options back how they were before I changed them. ( I suspect the pageLoad is filling from the database even when it's a PostBack - that's where I usually go wrong... )

IAteMakkaPakka · 30/01/2009 09:50

Kerry - there was a user review though - it was a sticky for ages.

nettie · 30/01/2009 09:51

My Activ convos doesn't look like that in firefox Tech, I've tried refreshing it numerous times.

Thanks for all your hard work, we really do appreciate it

RUBBER DUCK thank you! It is ctrl f5 that refreshes, not shift f5 Now, at least, I have got rid of the small print in threads I'm on.

Now, what about some clearer way of separating out different threads?

thisisyesterday · 30/01/2009 09:51

oh and also, in active convos, the threads I have read, and posted on don't come up in a different colour.

this is a bad, bad thing because I can't keep track of them

thisisyesterday · 30/01/2009 09:52

erm and just pressing F5 on its own will refresh, you don't need to press another button with it

RubberDuck · 30/01/2009 09:52

Yes, but afair the beta version DIDN'T test how well Classic would cope in the new version. I.e. we only saw the layout of the new version and had a play. How it would affect the rest of the site (and people's customise settings) wasn't really looked at, was it?

DumbledoresGirl · 30/01/2009 09:52

PadDad, is that funny? I seriously haven't a clue.

Threadworm · 30/01/2009 09:52

One more problem: thread titles are cutting off after just a few words. Even quite modest ones are truncated and meaningless.

It will be a real shame if we can't have longer thread titles displaying on the active convos page.

S1ur · 30/01/2009 09:53

Huh, funny thing is it all looks hunky dorey to me.

I have no display issues, the glitches with threads I'm watching and a few other things have already been mentioned.

Oh morning Kerry I'm not usually up and about this early - cor its bright out here eh? psst - there was several fuckofflong threads reviewing the general look AND multiple testing over the last few weeks.... Think the Trubble comes when you take a shiny new thing and try to mash it up with a big ol thing .

Still sure it'll all be fiiiiiiiine in the morning!

RubberDuck · 30/01/2009 09:53

thisisyesterday: refresh reloads the page. Hard refresh will reload page AND collect the style sheet from the server. So yes, hard refresh DOES make a difference.

rubberduck, i'm afraid I have no idea what a hard refresh is.
just saw someone saying they needed to press shift and f5 to refresh, and pointed out that you can refresh by just pressing f5 on its own.

thisisyesterday · 30/01/2009 09:56

am not saying in any way that pressing f5 will solve anyone's problems!!!! just that it's an easy way to refresh a page. that's all.
