A few notes on the new look and functions

There are still a few problems with using the various "Mumsnet Classic" options. However, for a lot of people matters are significantly improved if they press Refresh in their browse. If you're using Firefox, try pressing Shift+Refresh. At about 4:30am this morning after many hours of work, that made the classic option work well. Only a couple of minor layout issues remained.

Text is not meant to be squished, you're not supposed to have to scroll down through acres of whitespace. We'll definitely fix these issues.

I've no idea why people are finding text too tiny; the font size hasn't changed intentionally, so if it is tiny for you it's either a need to press refresh (to reload the style sheet, in tech speak) or a problem that will be fixed.

Threads I'm On and Threads I'm Watching should behave in the way they always did - they do for me. Let us know the specifics of problems you have with them and we'll address them.

We know about the problem of seeing "hide hide hide" across the top of the page. If you go in to customise (which my huge ENGLISH dictionary lists as being able to be spelled either customise OR customize) you can turn off showing of the Hide option which is a workaround for this problem. We'll fix it properly soon.

The ads have neither changed size nor increased in number.

Remember: Press REFRESH (and try SHIFT+REFRESH) a couple of times. It might help a lot.

For those having problems we do apologise and will sort it all as soon as we can. For those that hate it, perhaps you'll get used to it after a while and we'll improve the classic options (though I am using them now and they're working fine).

Oh and for the 2 of you that said thanks for all the hard work: thanks! It has taken over a dozen people a lot of hard work. We had to release it in a hurry and it's not perfect, but we'll get there.

I can't scroll up and down the page, so can't read any other posts......Also had trouble logging in, took ages

AMumInScotland · 30/01/2009 20:09

Hi - my Save option still isn't working. I've tried going to Sober first, then Classic. And I've tried in IE7 now as well as IE6.

But TBH I'm not that bothered about changing, it was just the fact that it isn't working IYSWIM

So please feel free to work on the other issues before you fret about that one, so far as I'm concerned anyway...

FiveGoMadInDorset · 30/01/2009 20:11

tech and Justine it is working really well now, well almost, still can't change anything in the customise area and also have noticed that I don't get the boxes in FFP, media requests eg, so no idea what is on offer and who by.

RustyBear · 30/01/2009 20:17

I think that in order to save customise changes you have to be logged in to your registration (My Mumsnet) with your email address & password, not just to Talk, with your chat name & password. It didn't work for me until after I'd logged in to My Mumsnet anyway.

MNsQueenIsDrunk · 30/01/2009 20:18

HOW have yopu ot the old format back
ITS NOT THERE
its completely different
I WANT CLASSIC

MrsDoylesMole · 30/01/2009 20:22

I hate it and cant get classic back

Watusi · 30/01/2009 20:25

what I have is almost as it used to be

I just clicked on customise
then clicked on classic

done

I have the same a/c and the same threads i'm on formats

slightly different looking a/c as the topics are in small print
but that's no biggy.

They're working on fixing classic for everyone. I don't know what the problem is but it's Ok on mine, am thick about computers sorry.

smartiejake · 30/01/2009 20:26

If I have chosen the classic mode, should it look exactly as it did before with the choices in boxes in a list down the left hand side?

It doesn't seem to be working. Have tried refreshing but that doesn't work either.

The threads don't show up purple when I've veiwed them either.

AMumInScotland · 30/01/2009 20:26

RustyBear - I was hopeful for a minute there, but it hasn't stuck even when I'm logged in to My Mumsnet.

Pixel · 30/01/2009 20:28

Bitoffun glad it's not just me. Everyone else seems to be moaning about margins, I just want to be able to have the whole thing on the page so I don't have to keep going from side to side like someone watching the tennis.

jujumaman · 30/01/2009 20:28

I'm so jealous

I cannot get mine back to classic

Have tried in IE7 and AOL

Presumably this will be fixed though ...

And will it really be like the good old days where you can see summaries of active convos and threads I'm on?I don't mind the new look, it's losing those that has totally bamboozled me and made me realise with shame what an addict I am

BONKERZ · 30/01/2009 20:34

tECH: how come when i minimise the page then max it again the whole page looks encrypted till i press home again? tis very frustrating cos i tend to leave MN on all day and follow certain threads but this encrypting thing keeps happening and i cant function! Also when i try to log on in the mymumsnet page i get an error message.

MrsDoylesMole · 30/01/2009 20:39

If it aint broke dont fix it
I cant get classic back either.

RiaParkinson · 30/01/2009 20:46

the text is way too PALE

RiaParkinson · 30/01/2009 20:49

am i the only person who cannot get ACTIVE to load?

ellasmum1 · 30/01/2009 20:51

how weird. when i click on log in the colours on this page are way better-easier on the eyes, the white isn't as bright and the blue is darker. But why?

whitenoise · 30/01/2009 20:56

why are thread titles clipped now?

ellasmum1 · 30/01/2009 20:56

oh, its because when i log in it recognizes my preference for mumsnet classic! Classic for me is much better than the new, but hate the huge white margins.

MummyElk · 30/01/2009 20:56

absolutely not after a gold star and I don't have a shiny apple for the teacher but I think it's great! - homepage looks a lot more up to date, the threads are fine to follow, they all seem to work ok for me and I, for one, am HAPPY.
So Thank You Mumsnet for updating a website that did need it and Sorry to those of you who are still having problems but I. Like. It!
This is What Mumsnet should look like. Next stop - Global Domination

mrsmaidamess · 30/01/2009 20:57

Me no likey

RiaParkinson · 30/01/2009 20:58

its all crushed up against the right hand side

RiaParkinson · 30/01/2009 20:59

totally jammed up most annoying

RiaParkinson · 30/01/2009 21:03

sussed that ACTIVE does not appear to work at all on SAFARI but does on FIREFOX

everything looks so small - I am squinting

Ponders · 30/01/2009 21:04

The text doesn't rearrange itself when you make the page narrower - it all stays put & the ends disappear

And the post space between the blue bars is too tight.

Don't like it

kitbit · 30/01/2009 21:04

at ranting on about 25 threads then reading about "shift-refresh".
It sort of works now but I am still grumpy.
Out of all the posters registered how many are going to be hormonal for one reason or another at any one time? I know you picked a time away from full moon to make the changes however the thrashing pool of hormones has yet to be appeased.
