A few notes on the new look and functions

There are still a few problems with using the various "Mumsnet Classic" options. However, for a lot of people matters are significantly improved if they press Refresh in their browse. If you're using Firefox, try pressing Shift+Refresh. At about 4:30am this morning after many hours of work, that made the classic option work well. Only a couple of minor layout issues remained.

Text is not meant to be squished, you're not supposed to have to scroll down through acres of whitespace. We'll definitely fix these issues.

I've no idea why people are finding text too tiny; the font size hasn't changed intentionally, so if it is tiny for you it's either a need to press refresh (to reload the style sheet, in tech speak) or a problem that will be fixed.

Threads I'm On and Threads I'm Watching should behave in the way they always did - they do for me. Let us know the specifics of problems you have with them and we'll address them.

We know about the problem of seeing "hide hide hide" across the top of the page. If you go in to customise (which my huge ENGLISH dictionary lists as being able to be spelled either customise OR customize) you can turn off showing of the Hide option which is a workaround for this problem. We'll fix it properly soon.

The ads have neither changed size nor increased in number.

Remember: Press REFRESH (and try SHIFT+REFRESH) a couple of times. It might help a lot.

For those having problems we do apologise and will sort it all as soon as we can. For those that hate it, perhaps you'll get used to it after a while and we'll improve the classic options (though I am using them now and they're working fine).

Oh and for the 2 of you that said thanks for all the hard work: thanks! It has taken over a dozen people a lot of hard work. We had to release it in a hurry and it's not perfect, but we'll get there.

I'm using internet rxplorer 7 and have no purple threads after I've clicked on them

dooneygirl · 30/01/2009 18:02

Not to be a pain, and I am very sorry for bringing this up again, but nothing can be done about font size? I'm not kidding when I say I have to put my face several inches away from the screen to be able to read the screen on MN. I admit I'm getting up there in years, but was just checked last month, and have 20/20 vision.

I have 3 and 7/8 inches of white space on both sides of my screen when on MN. I'd blame my computer, but when I increase the text size via my monitor to try to be able to read it, if I visit any other websites, the text is so huge, that I can't see the entire page on my monitor without scrolling sideways for quite a bit. If I put text size back to normal, all other web sites fit just fine.

lillypie · 30/01/2009 18:04

Hi I have just noticed that none of the OP are showing up on the for sale boards only the titles, when using new MN.

Works ok with classic

beanieb · 30/01/2009 18:10

PinkTulips · 30/01/2009 18:11

purple threads not working for me.

i'm using IE 7

Jas · 30/01/2009 18:13

I'm on Firefox (In answer to non-working purple thread question)

Is the ad at the top supposed to be that big? I keep waiting for the page to load vefore I remember it is such a big ad, I have to scroll right down to see anthing else.

Jas · 30/01/2009 18:14

I tried to get on here via links on MN email and it wouldn't let me log in, either.

Oh and I can't log into my mumsnet either.

Jas · 30/01/2009 18:26

Oh, sorry. I was in mumsnet classic. I've switched to new, and it has sorted the advert and the purple thread problem, along with a few other issues I had There is still an odd overlap of the advert, but I can live with it if I have to.

Now all you have to do to make me really happy is lose the American CustomiZe

noddyholder · 30/01/2009 18:32

very difficult to read and get around Why do we always fix things that are good already?is it possible to revert to the old style in the customize section?

DumbledoresGirl · 30/01/2009 18:34

Could someone please talk me through searching for a particular Mner's posts? I know you go to advanced search, but when I put in the name of the Mner and the dates I want to look for, well....what next? Where is the search button?

RustyBear · 30/01/2009 18:34

Purple threads are working for me on all my browsers - Firefox 3.05,IE 7.0.6001.1800, Safari on iPhone 3G and Google Chrome, (both versions 1.0.154.43, which I had and .46 which I've just updated to)
But I'm on 'New'. Is it on Classic that people can't see it?

Spidermama · 30/01/2009 18:36

I'm with Noddy. I dearly love Mumsnet but I simply don't think I've got the time in my life to have to learn a whole new way.

Why do techy types always have to change everything every couple of minutes?

SpandexIsMyEnemy · 30/01/2009 18:36

right I don't like this new one how do I get the old one back?

FAQtothefuture · 30/01/2009 18:38

it's not really that much different to get around....... it just looks different - the basic "getting around" seems to be pretty much the same to me

FAQtothefuture · 30/01/2009 18:40
wheresthehamster · 30/01/2009 18:40

Didn't there used to be an option to view 'Last day' in active convos? Only it's not there now.

I don't know about browsers but I don't turn purple either. I THINK I'm in mumsnet classic. I keep pressing the classic buttons but TBH I can't actually remember what classic actually looked like now, I'm so confused...

SpandexIsMyEnemy · 30/01/2009 18:44

I remember the first time around when they changed something really silly like the font and there was uproar, then they changed the site! lol - I used to keep tot eh classic view, but can't seem to get it working again now.

seem to have lost site of all the usual names I know, and also the friendly community atmos (althou that might be me not being around for a week or so)

looks it's JUST THE SAME - everyone (I think?) is still here (unless we've alread had flouncers over the issue before everything is even fixed lol).

It just LOOKS different, the only thing that I notice that is considerably different is we've lost the rather "archaic" look of the forum when you click on something such as active convo's.

Nearly put me off posting here 4yrs ago as I thought it was so flipping out of date

bergentulip · 30/01/2009 18:48

working fine for me.......

SpandexIsMyEnemy · 30/01/2009 18:50

/ i'm a fuddy duddy damn it! lol.

must get and have a good night of MN'etting again - damn RL getting in the way of my addiction.

Littlefish · 30/01/2009 18:54

Purple threads not working for me. Running IE on XP.

SaintGeorge · 30/01/2009 18:57

Hate it.

Colours are awful, no matter what setting I have it on.

Can't use MN classic as nothing works if I do.

I was cutting back on my MN time anyway but kept getting drawn back, so many thanks MNHQ for making it a lot easier for me to break free now.
