A few notes on the new look and functions

There are still a few problems with using the various "Mumsnet Classic" options. However, for a lot of people matters are significantly improved if they press Refresh in their browse. If you're using Firefox, try pressing Shift+Refresh. At about 4:30am this morning after many hours of work, that made the classic option work well. Only a couple of minor layout issues remained.

Text is not meant to be squished, you're not supposed to have to scroll down through acres of whitespace. We'll definitely fix these issues.

I've no idea why people are finding text too tiny; the font size hasn't changed intentionally, so if it is tiny for you it's either a need to press refresh (to reload the style sheet, in tech speak) or a problem that will be fixed.

Threads I'm On and Threads I'm Watching should behave in the way they always did - they do for me. Let us know the specifics of problems you have with them and we'll address them.

We know about the problem of seeing "hide hide hide" across the top of the page. If you go in to customise (which my huge ENGLISH dictionary lists as being able to be spelled either customise OR customize) you can turn off showing of the Hide option which is a workaround for this problem. We'll fix it properly soon.

The ads have neither changed size nor increased in number.

Remember: Press REFRESH (and try SHIFT+REFRESH) a couple of times. It might help a lot.

For those having problems we do apologise and will sort it all as soon as we can. For those that hate it, perhaps you'll get used to it after a while and we'll improve the classic options (though I am using them now and they're working fine).

Oh and for the 2 of you that said thanks for all the hard work: thanks! It has taken over a dozen people a lot of hard work. We had to release it in a hurry and it's not perfect, but we'll get there.

thanks Justine. I was just aware that you had mentioned all the other things that people had picked up (over and over again - poor MNHQ!) but not the one I mentioned.
I'll leave this thread now.
Hope you have a good weekend

JustineApologiesMumsnet · 30/01/2009 16:53

Ok well clearly there's a problem with Classic and making it stick for some - Apologies! - will ask YetMore to do some more digging.

List of things we're currently looking at:

Threads I'm watching disappearing

Classic and customise options

Active conversations - titles of threads truncated (this will be a couple of days)

SN in AC

Threads I'm on - last post showing as me
CustomiSe

Search button at top of pages

Dodgy dates/times in Threads I'm On/ Unanswered messages etc

Classic - restoring actual Classic look

Time and date on Local topic

PinkTulips · 30/01/2009 16:55

i do like it, i think i'll even keep it rather than going to MN classic but i do have one teeny tiny issue... the thread titles and lists of posts in 'threads i'm on' are written in such a pale colour it's giving me a migraine trying to read them... is there any chance of that being tweaked just a bit?

it all seems oddly bright and glarey all of a sudden

i like the layout though

SoupDragon · 30/01/2009 17:04

My "classic" is fine. I did have to choose the classic colour scheme though rather than "use classic options" to make it work.

SoupDragon · 30/01/2009 17:04

(when I say it's fine, I mean it sticks. It still has crowding issues)

JustineApologiesMumsnet · 30/01/2009 17:09

Re Mumsnet Classic issues. If you are having problems saving MN Classic from MN New, please can you try saving MN saving MN sober colour scheme first, then clicking MN Classic button.

This works for me. If you still can't get it to work can you please email [email protected] and they can sort you out manually.

(Obviously we will eventually sort it so we don't need the middle man).

Thanks (apologies).

JustineApologiesMumsnet · 30/01/2009 17:10

PinkTulips - agreed about thread titles in threads I'm on - we're going to darken (as we have the whole site)

Watusi · 30/01/2009 17:11

Do you think if I emailed David Tennant he might consider sorting me out manually?

browny · 30/01/2009 17:12

Justine, I think it would be useful if you put the last post date/time on the for sale/wanted boards, I find it's really useful to just glance at the date/time someone has put something new up for sale, then I know if it's worth clicking on those threads or not (very handy if you are continually looking out for a particular item) iyswim .

wheresthehamster · 30/01/2009 17:21

I hate change but I'll try not to be TOO grumpy. The font size for the forums on active convos is too small for me - I'm old and my eyesight is not that good. Plus all the white is, well, too white. The main thing is on the topic list where there is no last date and time. I use that all the time (moan moan) BUT I'm sure I'll get over it.

Every time you re-vamp the site I just thank god you haven't introduced tickers and logos and all that jazz so it's not too bad really

Watusi · 30/01/2009 17:22

Ah I have found a new and very serious problem!

Just wrote a rude word in one of my posts and it looks...weird. I think the background is rather clean-living for our collective level of profanity, somehow...

ThingOne · 30/01/2009 17:29

Justine, can I mention games again? It seems to have got lost in the crowd. I know it'll be bottom of the list but I'd still like 'em back. I'm not an addict, I'm not an addict ...

CantSleepWontSleep · 30/01/2009 17:29

Justine - that last list of things you're looking at doesn't include the fact that we can't get to 'My Mumsnet', which I thought you said further down that you would look at.

PinkTulips · 30/01/2009 17:35

watusi... that is a problem

thanks justine, me and my throbbing head appreciate it.

don't work the techs too hard today though, the poor little things have slaved away all day already, i'm sure us grumpy sods can wait til tomorrow for everything to be tweaked to our pernickitiness satisfaction

Justine - yes by purple threads I mean once I have clicked on it it goes purple then I know I have already been on it, if that makes sense

Otherwise I just have a long list of threads and don't know whether I have read them or not...

RubberDuck · 30/01/2009 17:42

Justine - can you put the other issue of Threads I'm On on the list:

i.e. I want a way to jump to where I last read to or at least to the end of the thread not right back to the beginning. Two thoughts of doing this:

  1. have a show all button (like on the talk page) which reveals the last few summaries of posts since your last one - a bit like it was before. Then you can click on the summary or the poster name and it takes you to that point in the thread.

  2. when you click on the last poster name then take you to the end of the thread (i.e. their post) - currently it takes you to the talk front page which I'm sure must be a bug.

JustineApologiesMumsnet · 30/01/2009 17:43

Oops

List of things we're currently looking at:

Threads I'm watching disappearing

Classic and customise options

Active conversations - titles of threads truncated (this will be a couple of days)

SN in AC

Threads I'm on - last post showing as me
CustomiSe

MyMumsnet - busted

Search button at top of pages

Dodgy dates/times in Threads I'm On/ Unanswered messages etc

Classic - restoring actual Classic look

For
Time and date on Local and Forsale topics - think the best way to do this is to add it to threads i'm watching (assuming that is working)

JustineApologiesMumsnet · 30/01/2009 17:44

Ok so purple threads is working for most - what browser are you using folks for whom purple threads isn't working?

mummylin2495 · 30/01/2009 17:49

i dont like having to scroll across the page to read all of the post, this is awful

Flier · 30/01/2009 17:53

purple thraeds aren't working for me; I use Internet explorer 6 )i think)

simpson · 30/01/2009 17:53

Justine - have logged out and back on but is still not working

Am using seamonkey

LucyEllensmummy · 30/01/2009 17:54

Could you, please please please, very nicely please? Make it so that i can still see the whole paragraph in a reduced window? I like to multi task, something us girlies are very good at and its really frustrating to have to have the page maximised because when it is reduced it doesn't reduce the actual size of the page and half of it is chopped off, or i would have to scroll across to see it.

I also have HUGE adverts at the top of threads so have to scroll down quite a bit before i get to the first post.

Thankyou muchly
xxx

PS - i like the shortcuts at the bottom!

Flier · 30/01/2009 17:55

oh working now after playing around - I can now see what everyone means about the funndy dates and times - I wasn't affected by that before
