A few notes on the new look and functions

There are still a few problems with using the various "Mumsnet Classic" options. However, for a lot of people matters are significantly improved if they press Refresh in their browse. If you're using Firefox, try pressing Shift+Refresh. At about 4:30am this morning after many hours of work, that made the classic option work well. Only a couple of minor layout issues remained.

Text is not meant to be squished, you're not supposed to have to scroll down through acres of whitespace. We'll definitely fix these issues.

I've no idea why people are finding text too tiny; the font size hasn't changed intentionally, so if it is tiny for you it's either a need to press refresh (to reload the style sheet, in tech speak) or a problem that will be fixed.

Threads I'm On and Threads I'm Watching should behave in the way they always did - they do for me. Let us know the specifics of problems you have with them and we'll address them.

We know about the problem of seeing "hide hide hide" across the top of the page. If you go in to customise (which my huge ENGLISH dictionary lists as being able to be spelled either customise OR customize) you can turn off showing of the Hide option which is a workaround for this problem. We'll fix it properly soon.

The ads have neither changed size nor increased in number.

Remember: Press REFRESH (and try SHIFT+REFRESH) a couple of times. It might help a lot.

For those having problems we do apologise and will sort it all as soon as we can. For those that hate it, perhaps you'll get used to it after a while and we'll improve the classic options (though I am using them now and they're working fine).

Oh and for the 2 of you that said thanks for all the hard work: thanks! It has taken over a dozen people a lot of hard work. We had to release it in a hurry and it's not perfect, but we'll get there.

Resin-3.1.0 (built Fri, 22 Dec 2006 07:00:35 PST)

Did I break it or is it a MN problem?

MNsQueenIsDrunk · 30/01/2009 16:21

no I[m not going o make my broswer window smaller

I dont want it smaller
i want mn to fill the page like it always did
why cant it??

when is classic actually going to be classic
seriously think you would have been better off just adding a couple of buttons that people someimtes ask for (cant remember what they are) and leaving it alone

JustineApologiesMumsnet · 30/01/2009 16:21

Two more things that we know about and working on:

Active conversations - titles of threads truncated

Dodgy dates/times in Threads I'm On/ Unanswered messages etc

Plus

threads I'm watching
SN in AC
Threads I'm on - last post showing as me
CustomiSe
Search button at top of pages

SoupDragon · 30/01/2009 16:22

Can you move the shed 32cm to the right too? It's blocking the sunlight.

Thanks.

JustineApologiesMumsnet · 30/01/2009 16:23

zaftig - you're right! We'll add it to the list. Apologies.

MNsQueenIsDrunk · 30/01/2009 16:24

FiveGoMadInDorset · 30/01/2009 16:24

FAQtothefuture · 30/01/2009 16:25

PMSL @ SoupDragon

FWIW - my active convos seems to be sticking at 100...............

VeniVidiVickiQV · 30/01/2009 16:27

I get that too, zaftig.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 30/01/2009 16:28

ah, it's been noted.

Zaftig · 30/01/2009 16:28

Can I just add that I quite like the new MN.

The thread titles are so much neater and easier to read.

AMumInScotland · 30/01/2009 16:29

Those of us who can't save in Customise - are we all on IE6, or is there a mix?

JustineApologiesMumsnet · 30/01/2009 16:29

Classic should be classic save for the new top and white margins.

I don't think it is quite - think the colours are a bit different which we'll add to the list.

Pollyanna · 30/01/2009 16:30

I'm on Vista

policywonk · 30/01/2009 16:31

Can't see what all the fuss it about. Looks fine to me (in fact most of it looks exactly the same).

Well done Tech n' all that

VeniVidiVickiQV · 30/01/2009 16:33

I'm not getting classic mumsnet either. At least I don't think I am....Confused

MNsQueenIsDrunk · 30/01/2009 16:33

I'm reaally upset by this

MNsQueenIsDrunk · 30/01/2009 16:34

I'm sorry
I will shut up now

I';m scared I'm n ot going to get it back

Flier · 30/01/2009 16:34

3rd time lucky

Justine - any answer to my query - or am I not making myself understood?

By Flier on Fri 30-Jan-09 13:02:41
Justine-very apt new name!
Here's one that no-one else seems to have mentioned (possibly no-one else is bothered about it).
It used to be that the last post time/date was shown next to a topic - this in no longer shown next to the topic; instead you have to click on the topic (thereby seeing all messages within the topic).
This was handy on little-used topics (like my local mumsnet)
Can we have date & time of last post back please?

AMumInScotland · 30/01/2009 16:36

Oh one other thing - on a thread which goes onto a second page, the chunks at the right hand side (Mumsnet latest, ad for books, bit about energy assessor) are taking up the whole "height", and the box with the repeated OP is appearing further down the page. It doesn't happen on a single page thread, so i think it must be the "OP box" going funny.

By the way, I do actually like the new style now I'm getting used to it .

FiveGoMadInDorset · 30/01/2009 16:41

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH can't get it to stick on Mumsnet Classic

and breathe

jujumaman · 30/01/2009 16:41

I press classic
I press F5

It stays the same

This has ruined my day

JustineApologiesMumsnet · 30/01/2009 16:42

VVVQ - yes i did - sorry will get to it

MNsQueenIsDrunk - please don't be upset - it's meant to look as it did and so it will, but not for a bit cos we're concentrating on fixing the broken stuff first. I'll add it to our list

Flier we aren't planning to put last post/time back as we are so busy it seemed defunct but I can see your point about Local - so will see if we can make that a special case. (Will be a little while though, see above about broken stuff) ps sorry wasn't ignoring you intentionally.
