Dear MNHQ, I didn't see all the problems kick off over poor Revjustabout...

but I would be grateful if you could tell me that you have at least given serious consideration to banning the posters who were harrassing her.

Thank you.

There has been a sustained attack on rev's credentials from a certain quarter for several weeks. It is the sustained nature of the scepticism about her, and the fact that it comes from posters who all belong to a certain group, that makes it seem like harrassment. Perhaps the individual posts from pph, Enid, and Bubble99 weren't all that bad (though bad enough to be deleted) but it is reasonable to view then in the contest of sustained undermining.

Threadworm · 20/01/2009 13:35

contest context

wannaBe · 20/01/2009 13:36

well afaik drNortherner isn't a dr... it's just a username.

Fwiw I don't think that mumsnet can have any involvement re the people who have contacted her in rl, after all this is a public site which anyone can access, so there's no way of knowing who those people might be, unless of tourse they have sent emails which mn hq could match up with usernames.

But there is a fine line between outing someone as a troll and harrassing them. And that thread was not the place. What was to be achieved by that?

fuckitgoblin · 20/01/2009 13:36

what does mnhq say about this?
its worrying that people think threats have been made

pagwatch · 20/01/2009 13:37

I am quite enjoying the genuine difference in perception about this.

Some see it as harrassment, others seem to see it as little more than a polite enquiry about the revs antecedents.

I wasn't there at the time but reading it it certainily seemed to me like several people piling in to give the rev a kicking.Perhaps hat was because several people seemed to appear suddenly all with the same slant.

CreativeZen · 20/01/2009 13:37

No of course the use of the name rev is fine, but it seems that she herself has offered up the information that she is a real rev, which would then possibly give her posts mroe weight with tsome people.

If some one wants to put Dr in their name, but makes it clear that they are not a dr, that would be fine too.

soapbox · 20/01/2009 13:38

Yes, fuckit, I think MNHQ will have to say something now, as PPH and Enid's deleted posts are assumed to now say things that they certainly did not when I saw them!

Lauriefairycake · 20/01/2009 13:39

Yes, I've no idea what princesspeaheads posts said as at least 5 have been deleted. She could have been posting something nice but inappropriate perhaps.

vonsudenfed · 20/01/2009 13:39

I don't think that, strictly speaking, this was trolling.

But the rev was fantastically full of common sense on all the Moldies threads. To the extent that a) I never felt the need to post, as she'd said it all before and b) it made me feel that everyone jumping ship wasn't such a bad thing as there were some other lovely and interesting people here.

And so, probably because of both of the above, she seems to be being followed around by a few people, who, like it or not, are Moldies. And who aren't on any other threads.

I think this is, frankly, pretty poor sodding show. And I don't feel that the rev should leave, or even change her name. I like her reluctant worshippers thread, MN will be a worse place without it, and frankly I do think that the people concerned should be deregistered. They were made to look as daft and petty as they are on the moldies thread, and theu didn't like it. I think they need to grow up.

soapbox · 20/01/2009 13:40

It went on a bit Pag, because Mr Rev's responses (which are now deleted) were extremely rude, especially to Eniddo!

ForeverOptimistic · 20/01/2009 13:40

Well said Von.

TotalChaos · 20/01/2009 13:40

I've seen Bubble around on a fair few threads including the political gaza/israel ones lately.

princesspeahead · 20/01/2009 13:40

I repeat that I have questioned the Rev's honesty and qualifications on precisely 2 threads, amounting to perhaps 6 posts. My concerns have been stated absolutely transparently on two threads. I have never emailed MN about this matter.

If anyone suggests that this amounts to harrassment, or dares to go further and suggest that I have made any incursion into Rev's private life and harrassed her this way, then I will take a very dim view.

vonsudenfed · 20/01/2009 13:41

And have now discovered that there was a link from the Moldies site.

Heavens these people don't like it that we don't miss them.

OverSimplistica · 20/01/2009 13:41

small orange / clementine

CreativeZen · 20/01/2009 13:42

How do you know that, vonsudenfed? Do you have access to information from MNHQ>

princesspeahead · 20/01/2009 13:43

A few of mine were deleted because I referred to Kerrymum's utter crassness at suggesting that I had made up my father's death on 23 December to gain sympathy, and use that as cover for "attacking" the rev.

Frankly any reference to her delightful suggestion SHOULD be deleted and in due course I will probably ask for this message to be deleted too, as the mere thought of it makes me despair in humanity.

soapbox · 20/01/2009 13:43

There is no link from the Moldies site Vonsfuden - or if there is, I certainly haven't seen it!

vonsudenfed · 20/01/2009 13:43

So said on the Rev is defrocked thread.

This may of course not be true, but it figures.

ForeverOptimistic · 20/01/2009 13:44

That is disgraceful PPH. I am sorry that you had to read that.

Lauriefairycake · 20/01/2009 13:44

Link please vonsudenfed

Rhubarb · 20/01/2009 13:44

To be fair to her dh, I think he got v. angry at the accusations levelled at her that she wasn't a vicar, she was obv getting upset, he was sat next to her and he sprung to her defence.

I only wish my dh would do that sometimes.

Yes he was out of order calling someone a bitch, but having phone calls from MNHQ and having to send documents to prove who you are because of some petty-minded people - whoever they may be - would drive the mildest of people to frustration and anger.

Threadworm · 20/01/2009 13:44

PPH: If you add together the sceptical posts about rev from a number of moldies over a number of weeks it amounts, in my view, to online harrassment. The impression is worsened by the fact that several moldies arrived together on that thread, suggesting that rev was being privately discussed on the moldie site.

Lauriefairycake · 20/01/2009 13:45

There is still one post on that thread from you princesspeahead saying that to Kerrymum - that one hasn't been deleted

AnarchyAunt · 20/01/2009 13:45

It is made difficult by the fact that so many posts have been deleted. I have no idea what they did or didn't say, though presumably they were Not Nice as they were deleted.

It is undeniably true though, that many of the deleted posts were made by posters who are very rarely seen on MN these days. Why are they so bothered who is who on MN all of a sudden? I didn't see them commenting the other week when a couple of real trolls were outed.
