just wondering, as i can't find it.

OP posts:
BennyAndJoon · 06/01/2009 13:42

I have told RL friends about MN, encouraged them to join in some cases, and they know my ID.

If I want to post anything I would rather not share with them, I namecange.

I fail to see why the mouldies couldn't just change their names if they wanted to return to anonymoty? Change to something completely different and start again?

But then they may have been frightened not bneing able to cope with not being famous?

BennyAndJoon · 06/01/2009 13:44

sorry for typos

They are certainly doing a good job of namechanging on this thread, aren't they? I've never seen such a fine array of turned up collars and false moustaches.

DaddyJ · 06/01/2009 13:45

Hold on, has this affected the SN boards as well now? JC wept.

Let's pretend that nothing has happened it might just go away..
Deafening silence from those who run the show here.

I have always admired MNHQ for their inspirational leadership,
for the way they take conflicting positions and come up with a solution
that makes everyone feel like they were right all along!
(The suicide thread for example.)

Their leadership in this case, so far, has been uncharacteristically ordinary.
Is it because they are emotionally involved?
The Moldies were always close to MNHQ,
they were posters who put a lot of themselves into MN,
who deserve a lot of credit for MN?s success.

Even if this thread dies, I doubt it will bring closure.

There is a solution but it involves direct talks between MNHQ and the people who set up the Moldie forum.
Twiglett and Justine kicked this thing off and only they can bring closure.

Give Twiglett and LittleLapin their usernames back.
Set up a truth and reconciliation thread for them and Justine and Carrie.
As moderators I propose our most prominent doulas, LuluMama and MarsLady.
(Lovely but know how to intervene with charming assertiveness as needed.)

The alternative is to stick yer heads in the sand and pray everything will somehow sort itself?

ClarissimoUsedToBePeachy · 06/01/2009 13:46

'How many people on here tell their closest friends about mn, and give them their nicknames so their closest rl friends can join mn and converse with them over the internet as well as in rl?
'

er yes I have

Sorry wannabe LOL

Am I odd?

Most of my friens are either a) Sn related and would benefit (many lurk i've found anyway); or B) live back home so it would an easier way to keep in touch if any of the buggers were vaguely PC lit.

I just don't post anything I wouldn't be oen about but am a very open person. My SOH doesn't translate on here very well though I know. Far too dry.... I'm all about the is-she-isn't-she-joking in RL.

wannaBe · 06/01/2009 13:47

fair enough custy.

I searched out a friend who was a member of netmums and who turned out to be easy to find and searched out her posts and wished I hadn't as most of them were slagging off her so-called rl friends.

I don't generally tell my rl friends about mn not because I necessarily want it to be a secret from them but because I just don't feel the need. I certainly wouldn't want my family coming on here and reading some of the things i've posted .

Flightattendant7 · 06/01/2009 13:47

I have finally given up reading this thread since about 7am today. I can't do it.

Am just posting to say that...really...

But I did read everything else up until that point. So is it ok if I stop now?

FairLadyRantALot · 06/01/2009 13:51

you may FA....[in best royalty mock tones ]

ClarissimoUsedToBePeachy · 06/01/2009 13:51

NO FA2, you must keep reaqding

wannaBe · 06/01/2009 13:51

I never appeared on the mn popularity threads either. Ever. And I've been here for three years.

I guess if you know you're not one of the popular mn'ers it isn't as big a deal as if you thought you were iyswim.

pagwatch · 06/01/2009 13:52

Flight
Would you at least look at my lovely DCs (new photos on my page) ...
No other fucker will. And I figured out how to download them on my own and everything.

ClarissimoUsedToBePeachy · 06/01/2009 13:52

Must get my profile swapped over and updated

FairLadyRantALot · 06/01/2009 13:53

wannabe and sleepycat...well....yeah those "who is your favourite mumsnetter threads"...don't you just love 'em ....

Rhubarb · 06/01/2009 13:55

Oh ffs!

Moldies was set up by an exclusive group of people who considered themselves Mumsnet Oldies. It was all a very big secret. You could nominate someone you thought 'deserved' to belong, that person would be discussed, Moldies could veto the nomination for whatever reason and you would never get to know about it.

If you were accepted you would receive an email with a link. But the idea was that you did not tell anyone else about it.

The site cannot be viewed or accessed so no-one but the members themselves know what is going on 'out there'. If they decided to have a bitch fest about wannabe, she'd never know unless some stirrer told her and even then she'd never find out what was said.

Stirrers have been at it good and proper, telling people that they were nominated but then vetoed.

And all of this done by those Mumsnetters some people considered friends. Who had met up year after year at the Christmas Do and other local meet-ups.

Your analogies are all bloody wrong!

You have a group of friends, some members of that group have been in there from the beginning and they decide they want to meet elsewhere from now on, privately, as they don't really like some of the new group members. So they join a private, members-only golf club. They don't tell anyone else and they continue, some of them, to go to the local and be all pally with the others. That's when they start suggesting that some of the pub group that they like should be invited to the golf club. Bob's name is mentioned, as is Freds. Fred is popular and is mates with a lot of the golf club set so he gets in no problem, but others don't like Bob, they discuss his merits and failings in the golf club and then decide he can't join.

This carries on.

Then one day the pub finds out about the golf club. The friends are hurt. Some of the golf club start telling Bob that he was discussed behind his back and told him that he wasn't good enough to join the club. He doesn't know which of his friends thought this, so not only is he hurt, he's also mistrustful of those he considered friends.

The golf club people don't see that they've done anything wrong, they still don't want the pub lot to join them, they won't even let them in for a day to see what it's like. They maintain that they be able to go to both the golf club and the pub as if nothing has happened and can't understand the suspicion that now surrounds them.

Is that any clearer?

What date is it today? What date did all of this kick off?

I wonder how many smug threads there are in Moldies about this right now?

coppertop · 06/01/2009 13:56

In one of the earlier threads someone posted a link to a thread from November where someone had asked about Moldies. Several MNers denied that it existed despite being members of it.

In contrast, if you do a search for TTR you get literally hundreds of posts mentioning it and no-one denies that it exists.

DaddyJ · 06/01/2009 13:56

Custardo, no one can deny your grievances.

Your posts on this thread do reveal another side to the story, though.

I hope you can see it, take the right lessons from it and, in time, make your peace with the Moldies.

FairLadyRantALot · 06/01/2009 13:56

pagwatch, know you didn't ask me....but wow, what nice pictures...very lovely looking family you are (psst, your oh, on that picture at least, reminds me a bit of Darren Gough (sp? that cricket player that was on SCD a few years ago)

morningpaper · 06/01/2009 13:56

Is DaddyJ a poet laureate?

pagwatch · 06/01/2009 13:56
