If you (still) feel the need to discuss Moldies [part 2]

This thread is a continuation of this one. That one had become too big for its own boots the system to handle.

OP posts:
myredcardigan · 02/01/2009 22:42

Absolutely!
My view isn't clouded by emotion at all! In fact I'm utterly bemused by the whole over emotional reaction to what seems like silly nonsense. But I can see that emotions are running high on both sides. I just think that although some people are justifiably upset, the vast majority are getting their knickers in a twist over lost cyber relationships that never existed in the first place.

I don't know if 5yrs in makes me an oldie but either way I like the freshness and new perspectives brought by new posters. I like laughing at tales I haven't heard before and being challenged by viewpoints I haven't come across. I like the open, self-regulatory aspect of MN which is why I stay. I like the fact that anybody can post (almost) anything they like and we nod/splurt/shout and piss take accordingly.

myredcardigan · 02/01/2009 22:45

That was in answer to onebat but booze and typing are not quick bedfellows

Aitch · 02/01/2009 22:45

do you want to hear it or not, KM? i will tell the truth, that's all i can promise, i'm not commenting on anyone else.

SmilleysPeople · 02/01/2009 22:47

After how many threads? How many posts?

there is finally an offer of 'the truth'?

Odd.

But go on....

IorekByrnison · 02/01/2009 22:48

Yes please, aitch.

Aitch · 02/01/2009 22:49

wtf, smiley? i've stated this countless times, it's up to you to say whether you think i'm a liar by nature or not, i guess. i certainly think you are a stirrer, being honest.

TheFallenMadonna · 02/01/2009 22:49

Please Aitch.

WilfSell · 02/01/2009 22:49

Iorek, are you sure you really want to know? Don't you think it might be like the 'what are you really thinking?' question to a new lover? [answer: no, love, not about you] Or to an adulterous one [answer: no, love, not about you, about the other more sexy and fresh one].

Neither answer at all satisfying. Especially when what we all really want to hear is that we are the beloved. And when they do tell us we are the beloved, we don't believe them anyway.

Better not to ask IMHO . In order to move on, that it.

WilfSell · 02/01/2009 22:50

it is

TheFallenMadonna · 02/01/2009 22:50

Sorry if I've missed your other posts. There have been a lot.

chipmonkey · 02/01/2009 22:51

What is evident, though, Sue is that some people have moved away from MN and on to Moldies and are no longer posting here. And it does feel, if you're not one of the "chosen" that they have moved on and left a void and a lot of hurt feelings behind. And yes, some are still posting here and of course there are also thousands of fab non-moldies still here but the secrecy did bother me. I mentioned a few weeks ago how I missed cod's posts and someone hinted to me that she was still around. I assumed she had re-registered under a different name and maybe improved her typing () and I feel a bit of an eejit now to know that she and others considered more worthy than me were in fact all posting elsewhere. And yes, I DO know that I should get a life, really but ii does hurt in an irrational way, particularly as I didn't stalk anyone, or reveal their personal details online but I've ended up being punished along with a lot of others.
And I was shocked to find how some people, who never did anyone any harm at all were vetoed and how apparently some prolific and genuine posters are more equal than other prolific and genuine posters.

Hmmm - this whole thing is weird. For me personally, I am not bothered at all that I have not been 'invited' because I have never been to a meet up. I speak to about 3 people off list.....

I can understand though, that for people who are friends with others here, and go to meet ups with people they consider friends, it must be very hurtful for them. It's a shame, but this kind of thing happens all the time doesn't it? And people always have private conversations on MSN anyway.

IorekByrnison · 02/01/2009 22:51

Certainly not Wilf. I don't have any new lovers on mumsnet. As far as I know.

SmilleysPeople · 02/01/2009 22:52

Oh well, if it's something that's been stated countless times....

But then why all the promise exhorting

chipmonkey · 02/01/2009 22:52

Sorry, mega X-post!

TheFallenMadonna · 02/01/2009 22:52

Oh God. Now I agree with Wilf.

My grandad had a saying "I could be a whore I'm so easy persuaded" which I'm sure is a terrible thing to say, but has sprung to mind now.

Aitch · 02/01/2009 22:53

'k, iorek.

i think i was invited to 'sign up to this, it looks like it might be a laugh' only a matter of a few days after the forum was found again. at that point it was a case of 'invite yer mates, anyone who you think might like it'. as i recall, the site went from about 43 memebers to a hundred and something in a few days.

now, this being a place peopled by MNers and ex-MNers alike (a substantial number of an old guard who i've never heard of, really, as well as names i realised i hadn't seen in months) there soon was a good bit of navel-gazing as to 'what this place is and are we goiing to keep growing this fast?' me? i say yes, but i like a bit of cut and thrust.

but the majority most definitely saw it as having more in common with a yahoo mailing group than MN. after all, they had MN, what would be the point of replicating it?

with me so far? i'm goiing to post this while i write the next tranche.

chipmonkey · 02/01/2009 22:54

Do go on, Aitch!

myredcardigan · 02/01/2009 22:54

TBH, Aitch, not everyone is as obssessed with this as it would seem.

IorekByrnison · 02/01/2009 22:55

Yes aitch, thanks for taking the trouble to go over this. So far so reasonable.

Aitch · 02/01/2009 22:55

i should fookin' hope so, mrc...

ClausImWorthIt · 02/01/2009 23:00

Come on Aitch - type faster!

ClausImWorthIt · 02/01/2009 23:00

Come on Aitch - type faster!

ClausImWorthIt · 02/01/2009 23:01
